0-0 in what is the worst game of football since time began.

Either this or a 5-0 drubbing, but I'm feeling confident.

We'll resort to hoofball, which will result in the ball coming straight back at us at the feet of players who can actually pass to each other and score. Bent totally isolated. Gabby will get one. 3-0 loss,

They are vastly superior in every area of the pitch, except for Given, who will prevent a cricket score.

I am incapable of ever predicting any other result even though I am a mature, reasonably intelligent man.

Why?

Given and Dunne should be heading into this game with a point to prove. A clean sheet and anything is possible. Ok, so that all sounds like a cliché but I am serious. If we defend well we can frustrate them and let Petrov get stuck into Barry who knows.

Off the Premier League website...

Manchester City v Aston Villa (Kick-off 3pm)

Referee: A Taylor. Assistants: D Bryan, A Halliday
Fourth Official: L Mason
Match Delegate: S Howey
PGMO: J Worrall

Now the only A Taylor on the Premier League list is Anthony Taylor, who is from Manchester.
No need to worry though - he's from the Withe n Shaw area so he's bound to be one of us!

2-0 Citeh with them getting the 2nd late on after long periods of valiant defending. Can't see us handling thier midfield at all. A midfield of Nasri, Silva and Y.Toure scares the living crap out of me up against ours.

Hard to call anything other than a Man City win here.  The manner of it though will be interesting and tell us a lot about where we're going under AM.

A drubbing with heads dropping will show some problems, yet a battling performance and narrow defeat would say to me we're going in the right direction.

True. I travelled there twice in the space of 2 months last season, witnessed 2 of the most spineless and depressing Villa performances in recent years, and had to endure 7 Poznans just a few yards from my face.

I'm not ready mentally to return yet.

If we go in thinking we'll lose, we'll take a hammering.

I just want the players to put the effort in and actually try and come away with something.

If we don't (which is more than likely), then at least we can say we tried - which is something we didn't do enough of last season...

a hard earned point. I think Shay, Dunney and Ireland (hopefully he's fit) will want to put on a bit of a show, and we overall won't fold like cheap tents as we did last season. Worst case, we'll lose, but the very least I want to see is a fight to the end. Norwich really did themselves proud at Man U last game, and McLeish showed against Arsenal in the cup final that reputations are there to be shot at. We have nothing to lose and much to gain from the performance and attitude we display against a team everyone expects us to lose against.

I'm not sure. 2 early goals (to them) and we'll get battered. If we hold on 'till half time then we've got a chance as they may get stroppy. Don't want to lose to a jammy dunnesque own goal or anything controversial like a dodgy pen etc that would just confirm their new big club status.

Sooo if it's 0-0 in the second half we will at some stage create a chance which hopefully will be a 'in the box quarter sniff of a chance'which Bent will take or a sprinting header on the run gabby finish (he's fxxxing ace at them) and then it's down to Shay to secure the points.

1-0 Villa, bring it on

Post by: Vanilla on October 11, 2011, 04:38:47 PM
The only way we got a result last season when we played them at home was to nick a goal and spend the other 90 minutes playing 10 men, the subs, the ball boys and the St Johns' Ambulance team behind the ball.

That said the manager is obviously the master in suppressing opponents, but if we give away an early goal, we could have real problems. We have to play the defence through offence tactic to get something, but can't see it.

I think they'll have to work very hard to beat us, but will do so. 1-0. I don't see us getting turned over. Maybe we've ridden some luck defensively, so hopefully we don't fall apart. However if it does remain tight and we can frustrate them, there's always the chance Gabby and Bent can nick a goal. We are also waiting for City to falter, which at some point I believe they will do this season. I fully expect Utd and Chelsea to be the top 2 and City to be chasing.

I've got a sneaky feeling we'll barely get out of our half, we won't have a shot but we'll frustrate them and get a draw. Either that or we'll get lamped 4-0.

The midfield area worries me. David Silva v Stiliyan Petrov is a massive mis-match and Stan will be shagged after 30 minutes chasing him round. I think Petrov or headless chicken Delph could get sent off late on.

The absolute ultimate in Villa-ness.

I even know how it'd pan out for me. I'd find it unbearable to watch, turn it off with 15 mins to go. Having given it some time for the match to end, I'd take a peek at the match thread, whilst praying it had ended well, and through my fingers see a sequene of very short, mainly one word posts.

I'd look properly and see it is a succession of people saying "shit!" or "FFS" or "bollocks", and that would be that.

It's a game where I'm more interested in how we play than the result. Their wealth has made it an uneven contest but if we play without fear and give it a go I'll be satisfied.

If fit, Clacker Clark deserves a run-out.

I'm going for 1-1.  Gabby will have their defence at sixes and sevens and Bent will poach one from the space created.  I reckon we'll score early on, will battle valiantly before Dunne nods one past Given in the 98th minute.

I can see it being like the Chelsea game a couple of seasons back, I turned off after the 4th went in... wasn't until later that evening I saw the full horror story of the final score.

Fair play to anyone brave enough to go up there and watch it for real.

To be fair, I thought something like this before we went to Arsenal last season.

Much as I like the above idea about Clark coming in, McLeish seems reluctant to start him so I don't think he'll bring him in for this one.

Clark is a good shout - far more suited to a defensive midfield role than Delph and less likely to give away silly fouls.  As others have mentioned the most important thing to me is how Villa play, rather than the result.

It does need SOMEONE to get a surprise result against Man City just to halt the depressing procession this season is becoming.

Warnock

Clark
Delph
Petrov
Heskey

Agbonlahor
Bent

Like a diamond in midfield. Clark holding. Heskey linking up the midfield and forwards.

I've got a feeling he'll need to!

I think Gabby and Bent can give them problems and that our defense will be tough to breach, but the midfield is where we'll struggle most against them.  Because of that we probably won't get enough ball to Gabby or Bent and the defense will be over worked.  Should AM be able to do something tactically that solves the midfield problem then he'll deserve a lot of praise, even though he's more likely to get abuse for another nil nil.

First upset of the season for Man City this, and of the day, I'm going for Villa 2-1, this or we will be on the end of something not worth thinking about.

N'Zogbia's first and a first half goal, Man City to equalize just after the break.

The mighty Gabriel Agbonlahor to get the winner in the last 20mins............................Its down to him, every bit as good as anything Man City can throw up.

or.......

I can see us getting thrashed out of sight.

Our biggest problem is we can't keep the ball. The first half v QPR highlighted this more than any game. We struggled to put more than 3 passes together.  The tactic of our defenders (and goalkeeper ) hoofing the ball upfield doesn't help either. If we can't keep the ball tomorrow we are going to get slaughtered. This needs to be addressed. How difficult can it be to pass the ball to a team mate ?

Their view on the game, which for many of them seems to be that they are a bit wary of us. Quite a few nice comments about Wee Barry as well, but there must be something about playing in blue that gives them an inferiority complex about the Villa that results in the need to use the term "Vile Park".

I'm amazed there hasn't been any fuss made about the fact the ref is from Manchester, and fairly young and inexperienced too for the Premier Lge.

Seems a needless pressure to put on him, particularly with City's next league game being the most important Old Trafford derby in about 40 years. Get a big decision wrong in this one where a key City player either gets sent off wrongly and suspended for next week, or fails to get sent off when he should have been, and the ref might have to go avoid going out for a while.

Daft choice, but good luck to him. I hope all the Villa goals are clear cut decisions!

We cannot play posesssion football.

We tried it under Houllier and the players didnt like it, so they rebelled. So Houllier tried to get rid of these players and bring in players that can keep the ball like Makoun, unfortunatly in my opinion Houllier hasnt benn able to carry on and we have got Mcleish.

Now all our players are happy because they are back to hoof and run football, which is a real shame for us fans.

I fear this will be exposed more than ever today against a top side.

Referee: A Taylor. Assistants: D Bryan, A Halliday
Fourth Official: L Mason
