A fantastic trip down memory lane.
I remember going to the away game and we won 3-0 with thousands roaring on the Villa - great times.

CHICO!!!!!

I was there; it was my sister's 16th birthday that day and Chico Hamilton was her hero. Amazingly, the attendance of 37,462 was only the sixth largest crowd for a match which I attended at Villa Park that season; the largest was, of course, for the February friendly against Santos: 54,437!!

This was indeed a lucky win. Notts County were the best team early in the season but we finished champions with County falling away and Bournemouth also promoted. The biggest attendance in that season for a league match was 48K v Bournemouth.

I can't access that Youtube footage becasue of the Great Firewall of China (the site is banned here) but I was there and remember the game well, as I do many from that season. We were second best to Notts that day, Tommy hughes had a stinker in goal, and somehow we kept a clean sheet. As a bonus we were on MOTD that night which was not too common in the 3rd division, even though we were a talking point in the country because of our crowds. Can you imagine Lineker, Shearer and co commenting on Sheff Weds on a Saturday evening these days...?

That was a great season. On Sports Report on Radio 2 (yes radio 2 long befor 5Live was born) they announced match attendance figures we were either top or second depending on Manu playing home or away.

One of my favourite seasons of all. We actually had over a million people through the turnstiles in 71/72
