Did anyone ever see him score a tap in for The Villa?

Bolton away, last minute screamer, awesome celebrations. Best goal I have seen in the flesh. The way he let the ball bounce and open up his body in one movement was class, the shot was perfection, and the power was such that it took nearly a full second to register the ball had hit the back of the net. Despite the good shooting ability though, he was a bit limited as a midfielder.

Basically what glasses said. Remember thinking he was going to shoot, then he just seemed to duck back and hit it about 5 seconds later. Fantastic goal. His goal against Portsmouth where he chipped it onto the volley was top class. Those two and the West Brom amongst my favourite goals of all time.

Great goal against the baggies
Nice bloke who always gave his all but a one trick pony

I love this goal, I was directly in line with it and could see the movement of the ball clearly, the celebrations were mayhem.

Thanks for the last minute goal against Stripeyfilth. That was a lovely afternoon and evening.

I'm particularly fond of two carbon copy goals, both in the league cup and both in off the underside of the bar. Preston in 2002 and Leicester in 2003. The WBA winner was a slight deflection but still a welcome piece of genius. Wolves away 4-0 was good too. His goal vs Blues in the 2-2 i dont really appreciate too much as i've never manage to accept the fact we went on to only draw late on. Chelsea at home in 2004 was quality. And Pompey away in 2005! In fact, there are too many to mention!

I was in the Holte upper and it seemed to be in the air forever as it looped up and over Russell Holte
From memory we battered the albion who were really shit, lee Hughes was probably the worst centre forward i have seen at that level by some distance

That match was all about Russell Hoult vs Darius Vassell - it was almost a duel between the two of them. Staunton got sent off late on didnt he?
-
Top striker of the ball, I loved the goals against Bolton and the Baggies plus the celebrations... but it was a good job the net got in the way of his goal against the blues because that would have hurt someone in the crowd!

Away at Pompey. I was sat in the main stand with amidst all the diehard Pompey season ticket holders - a friend of mine had given me his season ticket whilst he was on his jolly hols - and had managed to stay quietly undercover until that moment. I just let rip, stood up, arms wide in celebration and then turned around to apologise to all around me. In fairness, they took it in pretty good spirits...

Very limited as a midfielder. Great shot on him but very little else going for him. I still can't believe he got so many caps for Germany.
I remember being at the game v Albion (1-1) when Agent Ridgewell got sent off. Der Hammer was roundly booed as he had announced that he was off at the end of the season.
All said, some fantastic goals for us and he clearly loved playing for us. I reckon he would have jumped at the chance to come back to Villa Park this summer.

Watching that goal against the Baggies always makes me smile. The way the Stripeys just stand there in disbelief is hilarious.

I have a question about Hitz's goal against B***ingham City.
It was at the Holte End, yes?
But on the telly it's on the right.
The Holte End on the telly is on the left, yes?
What is happening on the 2003-4 season? Is the camera somewhere else?
I have been worried about this for some seasons.
Thank you!

It's you - we've all had to change our seats since you moved your telly around!

The camera was in the Trinity for a year or two, and then they moved it back.
His goal against Smethwick made me happy, mainly because I went to a christmas party with a load of the unwashed bastards that night and had great joy rubbing their noses in it.

The late winner against those stripey fucks that took about 19 deflections is my favourite memory.
-
I will never forgive Dolly for subbing him at half time during his final home game for us, thereby denying him, and the crowd, an opportunity to say farewell. Typical spite from the dreary one.
