Paul McGrath had fans jumping to their feet and texting on their mobiles as he made a very welcome appearance at Villa Park.
The man dubbed 'God' for his fantastic feats of stopping brilliance clearly hadn't lost any of his amazing appeal as supporters showed their appreciation at half-time.
The roar from the crowd was immense as McGrath stepped out on to his old stomping crowd to lend his support to official club charity Acorns.
And he further endeared himself to the claret and blue faithful when he told pitch announcer Russ Morris that Villa Park was "my second home."

As well as receiving unbounded adulation, the former defensive ace also called on the crowd to raise money for Acorns via Vodafone's JustTextGiving mechanism.
His heartfelt plea obviously worked with over £6,800 raised on the day.
In fact, supporters can still donate by texting 'AVFC12 £3' to 70070.
Elinor Eustace, Acorns corporate partnerships manager, said: "A huge thanks to Paul McGrath and Villa for making this possible.
"This new service from JustTextGiving means we get every penny the fans donated and the money is spent directly on supporting local life-limited children.
"It costs over £8m per year to run our three hospices and we rely on voluntary donations for over 80% of our income so this is a huge boost to our fundraising.
"On behalf of everyone at Acorns, thank-you very much to everyone who has donated."

Not gutted I missed the game but am I missed our lord.
Any news on how he is getting on battling his demons?
He certainly looks well in the pictures.
The word great and legend is used all to frequently.
He is all the above and more.

Brian Little said he quite likes the ''Going Back'' cover.

Methinks Brian is being a little kind, then again maybe "he who walks on water" aint into music as much as I am.
Great to see God back home yesterday.
-
Great pics on the Offical site, he calls VP his second home!
-
I was glad to hear the Oooh Aaah chant drown out that shite song about his demons. The great man deserves better than that.

I agree wholeheartedly. That song is in bad enough taste, but to sing it when Paul is there is just insensitive and stupid.

It was great to see and applaud him.
-
It was great seeing him made the day for me.

Ask him to bring his boots next time.

McLEISH out.....................................
Why bring that to this thread? Besides, I thought we'd got rid of this lot - we need to improve, but 5 games in??!
Was fantastic to see Paul on the pitch, what a man.

God would have got the biggest cheer, no matter who was manager. A club legend getting a huge welcome is hardly a sign of everything being shit.
-
Have been at VP for many many years and i have never seen a half time where no one wanted a pint or a pie
Tells you all you need to know about the love we have for the man - and he knows it and appreciates it
I spoke to him in the tunnel and he looked the picture of health and was laughing with the kids and others
a true true great of the game and the finest player / man i have ever seen in our shirt

Andy Lochhead got the biggest cheer of the day when he came back. So did Sir Graham, Ron Saunders et al. What does that prove?

The only reason I went to the match on Saturday.
