Just got a ticket to the Newcastle game for £10.
This was because I live in the B20 postcode area (Handsworth Wood.)
Do the club do this for every game but just with different postcode areas?
We need this kind of thing because there are so many local people who support Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Potential support being taken away by the Sky 4
We only need to look at none other than Blackburn Rovers for inspiration.
A town with a population of only 105,085, yet they averaged 25,000 at Ewood Park last season.
Yet with our city home to some 1,028,701 people, we only averaged 37,220 last season.
-
I read today that clubs allowed to do four local promotions per season; any more and presumably they'd fall foul of the equal pricing for home and away fans rule.
-
had season tickets for 4 years but got pissed off last season, I am thinking about bringing me and 3 kids to game at cost of 59 quid which i was thinking of doing
But some muppet asked if I lived in B6 or B20 as if I did as a local resident as a gesture of goodwill could come to the game for 5 pounds as they have put with that noice and litter
Villa been in B6 since 1890 something
No residents been there that long
So as I live outside B6 we pay more! sounds like shit marketing to me
I get home my kids come home with 3 free tickets to man city first champion league game and 2 adults as part of manchester community programme
they may become man city fans now
villa your marketing bollocks
-
So your complaint is based on Man City doing the same? We have a lot of people in the immediate vicinty of villa park who don't take much interest but if we can do something to spark that interest it will stay becaise the local link increases the chances of loyalty.
There are already signs that the clubs current approach is increasing the local community's sense of ownership of the club. Jusr drive down Witton Road and check out the new claret & blue shop fronts - the Aston Pizza etc. It's joined up thinking. I'm sorrry they're not marketing tp Manchester. But we probly should try to dissuade the kids in Aston from united & citeh first.

Because they aren't specifically targeting you personally, Villa's marketing is "shit," "bollocks" and the club employ "muppets."
As amfy said, one thing the club are doing right is giving local people a feeling of belonging. There's the shop fronts, I spoke to people at Aston Pride who say locals talk positively about the club now and there are many more Asians at the match than ever before..
-
T, I always thought it was Handsworth you lived in!!

Good to hear.
I always see Asian fans in the crowd at Ewood Park on TV.

I agree entirely with the idea of drawing in new support from the local area but surely some effort should also be made to retain the supporters they already have who don't live in the area and who have been put off a bit by the current trend towards high prices?
-
I live a hundred miles away and go home and away. Am I not entitled to some discounted tickets?
-
Apparently, you can get a ticket to the Wigan match for £5 if you live in the B6 postcode area.
-
Should be same price for all wherever you live in my opinion.
-
I get abit sick of people always moaning about what they haven't got.
Just support your club and don't whinge if they try to drum up some extra support, because let's face it, the atmosphere is shite at villa park at the moment.
-
The only way to get the fans back on a regular basis and fill the ground is results and entertainment on the pitch- the greed in football and ridiculous wages are ruining the game and the rich will get bigger and richer leaving clubs like villa everton , Newcastle just existing in midtable- things at villa seem to have gone flat over the last year and without massive investment in the team nothing will change .
-
Should be same price for all wherever you live in my opinion.
What? All cheap? Then you'd be whinging even more when we can't bring a player in due to cash shortages.
All normal prices? So the club isn't allowed to reach out to the local community because YOU don't benefit?
It seems to me that in general, supporters reflect the state of top flight football these days - me, me, me, what do I get? Why should HE get something when I don't, wah, wah, wah.
-
Treat everyone equally regardless of where they live.

Agreed. Although B37 deserves a discount for putting up with all these noses.

Back in the 80s during a spell out of work I took advantage of the half price for the unemployed offer which ran at the time- do the unemployed still get that offer or has it long gone as it was 25 yrs ago at the time?

It went on to the early nineties to my knowledge. My ex mother-in-law was there every week in those days *winky*
Shouldn't everyone be treated equally though? And if it was 25 years ago at the time, does that make it the fifties/sixties?

Have a looking at the population of the City in a circle about 2 miles from City centre. It is mostly Asian and we are losing the youngsters from this group to manure , arsenal chelsea and no doubt mancity in the future. Anything the Club does to get a fair few numbers of these locals onboard the better for us. We need the locals to have some pride about living within the vicinity of VP and we need to entice them in whatever way we can.
I have two junior season tickets that I use on rotational basis to bring youngsters in the larger family to our home matches. By doing doing I reckon I have saved about 8 of them from choosing the devils!

Not sure what decade your in percy but 25 yrs ago was 1986!
25years ago at the time i used the offer!
Should be treated Equally regarding what area they live was the comment i made ,helping the unemployed would make sense as does helping the young and elderly with concessions.

Treat everyone equally regardless of where they live.
All commercial business's use different method and variable tactics to market their products why should we be different?
Sainsbury's send me money off vouchers when I stop shopping there for a little while however my neighbour does not get those and they always shop there. It's called variable targeted marketing and it works for very successful organisations and we should adapt whatever all proven and trusted methods.

Come on son, get a grip. 25 years ago now is 1986. 25 years ago at the time was 1961.

The only thing that will attract the fans back on a regular basis is entertaining winning football.

Are you saying that season tickets for say £200 would not attract fans back on a regular basis? I know somebody who had hardly ever been before who had a season ticket last year because he bought somebody's complimentary one for £250. Can't get it this year and he's not going again.

I'm sober mate. I knew what you meant, I was ridiculing your clumsy English, which is not improving.

In some cases maybe but if some people are not happy with what they are seeing and getting for their money they will stay away-we have had cheap deals already this season and got nowhere near a full house, put a winning and entertaining team on the pitch and see the fans come flocking back.
However to do so needs massive investment in the team and the match attendances no longer contribute the majority of a clubs income-the days of a regularly packed villa park o a regular basis are long gone i fear -as doug used to say it has been proved that dropping prices doesnt fill grounds.
-
as doug used to say it has been proved that dropping prices doesnt fill grounds.
I must have imagined the full house Small Heath got against Gillingham for a live TV game on a Frday night when it was a fiver in and kids for a quid. What did that prove then?
-
You could also argue that our biggest gates every season come from the top price games. Price is a factor, but not the main one.

If it proved financially worthwhile do you not think all clubs would drop the price and get full houses-it does not work.
How many empty seats were there against blackburn or are you saying we charge a fiver and bankrupt ourselves?
As dave says price is one factor but not the main one.

Whether is is financially viable or not is a different argument. You stated as a matter of fact that dropping prices does not fill grounds. In effect you're saying that if we charged one penny for a family of six we would not sell out.
-
Sorry percy you are choosing to miss the point and i cant be bothered to waste my time playing your games-enjoy the match!
-

The trouble is there is no grey area to your point. You keep saying that dropping prices wouldn't result in full houses when, depending on the degree of the price drop, you know it would. Sounds like you are the one playing games.
-
Surely the further you live away, the greater the travelling costs, so the more useful a discount on the ticket becomes?
-
I think it's a great initiative and the club should reach out to as many communities as possible to fill the stadium. This has much wider rammifications than simple charity. We should embrace local residents. Aston Villa Football Club is more than just a football team. It has a responsibilty to be much bigger than that.
-
Should be same price for all wherever you live in my opinion.
if we got a full house for each game, id agree.
-
Its a shame PeterW is not around any more his contribution to this thread would have been invaluable

I agree , I no problem with principle but reduce price for all
-

The closer you live the more disruption you put up with by having 30-40k people on your doorstep once a fortnight.
-
If you look hard enough and wait until the last minute there are nearly always cheap ticket deals at VP for any match!

Talking about a great bit of marketing, has anybody not seen the two Sikh lads next to the home dug out at Old Trafford? They're on TV more than Ferguson and I'd bet a pound to a penny Man Utd have strategically placed them there. They're a marketeers dream, everything you want, fun, passionate, animated and always dressed in replica kit, a clear demonstration of how Man United want to sell themselves as a globally supported club.

Yup. You see them there every game.
I bet they're from Birmingham as well.

You could also argue that our biggest gates every season come from the top price games. Price is a factor, but not the main one.
But with ticket prices there is always a point of diminishing returns and I think that point may have been reached already this season. It's up to the marketing guys to keep on top of it and make any necessary adjustments before the absence of some fans lessens the experience for the ones who attend, which could cause a sort of vicious circle.
Also, it's hard to generalise because the level of price acceptance is not universally applicable. It depends on individual circumstances.

I'm sure there were a couple of Sikh lads behind our dugout shown on TV during the Wolves game, notable because of those two at Newton Heath more than anything else, but good to see all the same.

Kind of agree with what the club are trying to do but think they should extend it to other areas of 'Untapped Potential'.For example most kids in Chelmsley have noses as parents but as money is tight dont go to games. There is a lot of interest in football here and kids at a young age love to go whoever is playing so a few cut price deals might hook a few for the future - This is probably true also of others areas where money is tight such as Kingstanding.
-
The club are doing a 2 for 30 quid deal for the Wigan game.
I haven't paid over 20 quid for at game this season yet.

The population of the City of Birmingham is a little over a million, of which at the last census perhaps about 2/3rds described themselves as White/British ? For all sorts of reasons, I dont expect us to see every 3rd face at VP being non-white. The reality is that a 2nd/3rd generation football mad Asian lad in brum whose Dad/Grandad had no particular history of watching football has got a bigger chance of putting on a Man U or Chelsea shirt even though he rarely if ever will go to Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge.
When I am at VP and look around, every 50th or 100th face may be non white ? That is probably the same at all grounds, but with the ethnic make up of our city we are definetely missing out.

Yeah apparently Arsenal have the highest % of non-white fans at 7%.
Most grounds only have around 1% non-white fans.

Be careful what you ask for.
In my opinion, the fact that we now have nice, safe seating, more female supporters, more "family friendly" areas, has led to a distinct lack of atmosphere. Not just at Villa Park, but every other gound in the country.
If we attract more "minorities" with no history of support, that will further reduce what little fervour is left.
This may be controversial, but in my opinion is accurate. I sit in the Upper Holte, and for most of the time it's like a morgue.

You seem to be saying you lot on The Holte are now just a bunch of girls.
If so, I'm glad I am in the lower Trinity with the real men.

Upper Holte is like a morgue because it's half empty a bit like all the upper tiers at VP now days.
You can not blame the library atmosphere on much improved facilities and more family orientated approach. The so called "minorities" have not landed here from Mars last night they are born and bred here so get them in and they will in the "kitchen" with us and we will not have half empty ground.
-

Why have you put minorities in exclamation marks?
Anyway, all new fans of our club have no history of support, be they white, black, Asian or any other "minority" you care to mention. If we are going to rely purely on white, working class, son of another Villa fan supporters we'll be down to 20,000 per game soon.
We need to encourage everyone to come to Villa Park, and when they are there it's up to you lot in the Holte and the likes of Brigada to show them how good it can be when there's some atmosphere. If they like it, they are the future, if they don't we might not have one.

Don't attract more minorities because it might spoil the atmosphere even more?
What a 19th century way of looking at things.
Non singing minorities (although, quite honestly, why you assume what you call "minorities" will be less vocal or passionate is beyond me) are a fuck lot more passionate and involved than empty seats, of which we had 8,000 yesterday
