Poor Ronnie Rosenthal. Nearly 20 years on and he is wheeled out to try and make Rob Earnshaw feel better. Fair play to him.
5 Live interview (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00k9b9h)
For our younger readers...
One of the great games of a memorable season. Deano's debut and two goals against his former club in a 4-2 win. Happy days.
-
That was unbelivable. I was stood on the Holte that day and when he took round spinky I just put me head down. Next thing I knew everyone was cheering and laughing I looked up and saw the game continuing, could not believe how he could miss it. As much as I wanted to watch the highlights on MOTD for our win I couldn't wait to see the replay of that miss.

The interviewer Phil Williams is a Villa fan too.
Earnshaw's will be a distant memory in a few years...Rosenthals's will live on forever.

was right behind him, North Stand Upper. Happened so quickly you couldnt quite believe what had happened. Fantastic game.
-
I never get tired of that clip!
-
To me, it was Karma for his outrageous dive which won them a penalty at Anfield the season before and somehow conned the ref. Anyone who was there should remember it.
-
I can tell my grandkids that i was on the Holte when he did that howler. I didnt see it though as i turned to my brother and said shit when he took the Teale back pass.
-
That's what we should call it from now on.
The Holte End Howler.
-
Aaaaahhh now that's a memory. I think I was still laughing when I got off the number 33 bus outside the Co-op garage on the Kingstanding Rd that afternoon.
-
That will always be the greatest miss. I'm still amazed every time I watch it and I love everyone's reaction on the Holte, never get tired of watching it.
-
I don't think I have ever seen 20,000 people piss themselves laughing and dish out wanker signs in quite the way the Holte did that day.
-
What a miss I was in the Holte End and I couldn't believe it you are right Cheltenhamlion I just pissed myself laughing.

That was the funny thing, it wasn't so much howls of derision as gales of laughter
-
Didn't we do the double over Liverpool that year? If so, I think it was the last time we did.
-
We beat them 2-1 at Anfield. I was at both games.

Likewise. Happy days indeed.
On that miss, I think it's the fact he hits the woodwork that makes it so special.
-
It was packed on the Holte that day and went silent when he round Spink. I will never forget the clunk sound as he hit the bar.
-
Wasn't silent by me, I had my mates dad stood behind me shouting "Fucking bollocking bollocks........................YEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!"

That's my abiding memory, followed by mass wetting of pants.
-
It was a great afternoon in all, I was stood in the Holte and it felt like you had gone 1-0 down and equalised in the same second. Then winning after Mark Walters had gone mad in front of the Holte scoring the first goal.

If I remember right a guy named Torben Piechnik had a real comedy debut for them at centre half but good old Ronnie's miss got him off the hook.

Yes he did, he didn't last long there... a poor debut for him, shame!
