First time on just wanted to say hello to all fans,
Having read a lot of posts about season ticket holders and the drop in gates,
i wanted to share my sadness at not renewing my ticket,
Today was the first home league game i have missed because i chose to in 30 odd years of supporting Aston villa.
I have followed the villa through thick and thin watching many great games firstly as a kid in the 70`s ,
seeing alex cropley break his leg against the albion, seeing great players ,
little and grey, shaw and withe, platt and macnally ,
deano and dalian, paul mcgrath, cowans, mortimer and too many others to mention over the years,
From being held in a compound at nottingham train station,
seeing peter withe throw his sweatbands into the holte,
winning the league and the european cup, leagues cups and losing a few on the way ,
being crushed on the bars as 13 year old in the holte against juventus with 48,000 other fans ,
beating a very dirty Barcalona in 83, being relegated to division 2 ,
then jumping for joy at seeing tommo scoring that bullet at st andrews
and all those great days following the villa that season finishing at swindon,
being there for big rons first game at Sheffield wednesday in ore of the amazing fan,
being there for big rons final game at a miserable wimbledon on a wed night
to go back 3 days later to see us loose again to palace,
Being a villa fan through these years i have witnessed many highs and many lows,
Someone showed me and old cine film from the silver jubilee in stechford back in 77,
everyone else was in fancy dress but not me , there iam in my villa shirt ,
sleeping over night on witton lane for fa cup tickets against liverpool,
and playing in a football match on the street , 150 a side i think lol, To me the villa are in my blood,
having had the honor of going home and away with the finest fans anywhere
meeting some of the funniest people on those away days you will ever meet,
Finaly getting married at villa park and getting on the pitch,
Now my son is old enough i want to take him too,
i know im not any more special than you as a fan and you all have your own memories,
Sadly over the years i have watched more and more people give up going till
i was the last of ten or more who went, I dont think it any one reason that footballs losing its passion,
we have had poor teams in the past ,
But the price to watch now has pushed me to this point i will have to pick my games from now on
and i`m pretty sure thats what happening to a great deal of fans too,
The one thing i always took for granted was at the end of the week
i would see the villa regardless of where we were or who we played, but i see those days going away.
Hopefully someone will see sense and return us back to those days,
so the young kids we need for the next generation wont drift away into those
sky subscribing buy a shirt from sports direct and im a fan of man united, man city or chelsea glory seekers
Up the villa !!!!!!!!

Welcome lion69. Any chance you could edit your post into readable paragraphs rather than a wall of text please?
-
Sorry about that, Not quite how i expected it to come out ::)

Welcome to the site lion69. Check out the memories section on H & V, it where us old farts loiter and let youngsters who bother to read it know just how stupendously good we have been at times as well as incredibly shite on occasions too.
-
Welcome lion69,enjoy all facets of the site just give summer transfer news etc a miss as it will do little except disappoint these days.

From being held in a compound at nottingham train station,
I was there as well, first game of the season, soccer special broke down on the way, eventually got to nottingham, herded into a pen/cage by the station, left there for over an hour, no toilets, no drinks, red hot day, ppl were wilting everywhere, then we were all thrown back onto another train to brum, what a shitty away day that was.

Lion69 did you check out the family value season tickets where you n a mate can take two kids for a whole season for £880?
That's eleven quid a match each for you and your kid to stay part of the greatest family in the world. Ok so it's not the same as travelling away from home with your mates but for twenty two quid its still a bargain!
Good luck trying to find another passion for your littlun to enjoy that costs any less mate; swimming baths, golf, fishin, karate, even a two hour visit to the pictures costs almost as much as the 'event' that is AN ASTON VILLA HOME GAME.
Keep the passion - following THE Villa is about far more than battling for a wankionsleague spot with the whorefour.
