Nice read as always, Dave. I have to say I'm not suprised at the attendance, when was the last time we even played in the 2nd round? Three home games in a week, this was always going to suffer, even at 10 quid a pop.

Would losing to a team 87 places lower in the league have been a record? I'm guessing it would in this competition. I wonder if Blues-Altrincham is the FA cup record?

Doubt it. Coventry were higher in the league when they lost to Sutton and there's plenty of division three and four teams who have lost to clubs from way down the Pyramid.

Although the crowd was poor by our standards - it was the highest of the competition by some distance for this round

Agree with comments above. How is 21,000 a poor crowd for a 2nd round game v Hereford, sandwiched between two home league games? Most clubs were getting single figures.

From memory I think we have only lost to a 4th tier team once. 71/72 in the 1st round of the FA Cup at Southend. Having said that, at the time they were probably only a couple of dozen places below us.

Andy - didn't we get beat by Aldershot the one year? FA Cup third round I think.

With regard to the Hereford coaches, did they arrive just before kick-off ?
I was expecting to see loads of buses on the M5 on my way up but only saw one. Also, walking to the ground I saw hardly any Hereford fans and yet, come kick off, there were 2000+ of them in the North Stand.

They got there later than usual but virtually all of them went straight in the ground.

OK, I must of been ahead of the coach convoy
