On the topic of kit, I have recently posted a new article on my Blog which you can see on my sig. I wanted to know what fans think of the price of football shirts in the region given hard financial times at the moment. Any feedback would be great. FWIW i think kit is something that is important to fans as it is a way or representing your team and having an affinity to your club, something i think the claret shorts is causing a fuss over - same as black socks... its different. ON saturday a few people made points that the claret shorts did not look right. Is this really a cause for concern or is it Villa fans actually care about?
please see my sig for link on article
cheers guys

He's asked permission now Dave, so is OK. Although I hope that every single post won't be promoting the blog.....

I have always brought the new Villa kit but with prices that they our asking for now makes it a little bit difficult to buy one I do wish they would lower there prices.

The claret shorts were just cos Fulham wore white....they usually wear black, so what the f**k was going on there I don't know....anybody? We'll be wearing white shorts on Sat.
IF I want to buy the shirt I tend to go to the club so they can have my money even tho' I know I can get it cheaper somewhere else and the club gets nothing. And it's usually for birthday/Christmas so kills 2 birds...
-
Kids football shirts are the best value clothing ever, ok they can cost a bit at first, but they wear them all the time, easy and quick to wash, easy to dry no ironing, and just as they grow out of them there's a new version comes out, what's not to like.
-
hi , no i wont be promoting the blog in every post!! haha, i just wanted to draw your attention to it as I want to guage the opinion of Villa fans on important issues in the region. FWIW i think £45 is a bit on the dear side.
-
I wish for the day when it becomes unfashionable to wear a replica shirt.
-
Im not sure that day will come, but with prices increasing i don't think it will be too far away. out of interest im guessing you don't own one?
-
...and black socks for me
-
Over-priced.
-
I agree vastly over priced, fair enough the club needs to make money as they need to cover costs, but will the current prices drive fans away? When you consider printing numbers etc aswell, families may struggle to kit their kids out for example

No ss222.
Prefer retro or Villa t shirts/training gear.
-
I think looking around the clubs boards a lot of people feel like that to be honest too much money and i dont think everyone is a fan of their design, something im aiming at people to discuss on the blog with the whole modern v old era stuff
-
Load of shit m'Lord.
Quality = dreadful
Cost = How much profit here ? - got to be about 2000%.
-
The claret shorts were just cos Fulham wore white....
Why were the shorts a different shade of claret to the shirts?
-
Over priced for me too. Especially because the material seems pretty poor. They say it's mesh woven to draw moisture away from the body or some crap like that but I wear training tops a lot of the time for running and training and they feel better than wearing a football shirt.
The last one I bought was the carling cup final one. As I liked the design of the old acorns one and wanted a momento for going to wembley on my birthday.
-
dont think they were just think it may be the players wit wet tops makingit look that way
-
Im looking to maybe post something regarding what clubs should do what would be classed as reasonable? what do you think the club should charge for a shirt?

£25 I reckon, £45 for home and away.
-
£30 maximum.
-
Just another way for clubs to fleece their fans.
-
I agree I think £30 most is something clubs should be looking at. Ive also looked at the wage bill at Villa and wonder if you think it has any correlation. Wage bill being high meaning no chance of shirt prices coming down any time soon. Something I have discussed but it would be interesting to guage fan reaction on that

Cos Nike are shit at getting things right for us - last season's fiasco an even better example!
I agree with Rip VF - forget the replica stuff and go retro: I love my 57 Cup winners striped shirt and I wear my 82 Champions of Europe shirt to almost every home game. The Mrs got me the Acorns one about 3 years ago as an early Christmas pressie and I wear that now and again. As someone else said I think the kids' shirts are pretty good value cos they wear them so much and they're easy to look after. £25 should be about right for the kids.
-
I prefer the retro kits aswell. Love my '82 top.
-
Said it a million times, retro is the way to go. I love my '57 and '82 tops. I'm going to get another this Christmas too, not sure what year though. As a club, I hope we go to something completely different next year, maybe Adidas or Puma. I love some of their designs. Keep the home simple, but the away and/or third can have a little creativity.
-
retro is definately the way to go. A better designed shirt that will never date, looks better too and different, also avoids fiasco's with poor kits, or with stupidly delayed kits, like Villa's shirt last year :) cheers for the feedback guys,

for adults, oh, it is!
-
Yeah I think retro is the way to go for many people at the moment especially as the price is now £30. Something I think i could write about also thanks :)

I'm a 1970's white away shirt man, myself. Pure style and quality.

Retro for me too. I have the Yellow with Blue trim div 3 away, European Cup Final (signed by that blonde haired young lad who played alongside Peter Withe) Champions Of Europe long sleeved with Davenports on the front and Champions Of Europe short sleeved plain front.

I don't like the look of the all claret kit either. We seemed to wear the claret shorts a lot last season (and always lost!) and it just didn't look right. I don't see why we needed to change as our home kit would have been fine on Saturday, with white shorts and black socks.
Before anyone says Fulham wore white shorts, I know that, but having watched other games in recent years this seems to be allowed, eg Man U v Man City, Blackburn v Arsenal, even Celtic v Rangers (off the top of my head) all games where both teams have worn white shorts, with no problem.
Maybe we're too keen not to do anything wrong. Remember the General saying we weren't allowed by the FA to wear the Black kit unless both our other kits clashed with the other team, hence we never wore it. This is obviously rubbish as Chelsea often rotate between 3 or 4 different kits, most of the time when there is no need for a change.
