And good luck to him too:

Respect.
-
And good luck to you Brad. Except when you face the Villa of course. ;)
-
When all PL footballers are being portrayed as mercenary bastards, it's really nice to realise there are some decent people amongst them! Cheers big Brad!
-
Good luck Brad.
-
All the best Brad, and thanks for your three years at the Villa.
-
Rarely let us down, and we had three good years out of him. Good luck Brad, but I hope you get a bad back from picking the ball out of the net when we play you!
-
Refreshing - Thanks Brad - Good Luck
-
Says a great deal about a genuinely good guy and professional. He was great for us.
I really do wish him and his family all the best.
"FRIEDEL! FRIEDEL!"
(Looking forward to reading Downing's message to us all!!??)
-
And tomorrow, a message from Stewart Downing...
-
top bloke,all the best brad
-
Refreshing - Thanks Brad - Good Luck
ditto
-
Fair play to him. Gave a good service and made some crucial saves, one against liverpool in final game was absolutely superb.
All the best brad.
-
A good message for a good man.
Just out of interest, how would we be feeling if one of our new signings said something similar to his previous club?
-
Great professional. Goes to show it's possible for a player to move on without the usual bile. Thanks for 3 good years.

In the same way fans choose to say Martinez lacks ambition by turning the more lucrative Villa job down in favour of Wigan yet call Downing and Barry dirty money grabbing treachorous bastards. It would be met with selective viewing :)
Anyway, Friedel was a top player for us.Fortunately we've managed to replace him with another top Premiership goalkeeper.
-

If it was politely respectful like that, I'd have no problem at all. What Friedel said was a world away from Houllier's various Liverpool comments/actions.
-
A classy individual methinks.. Very good luck to him.
-
Nice one Big Brad and thanks!
-
Cheers Brad good luck and thanks for everything.

As would I, but I could see H&V's lunatic fringe jumping on it for all the wrong reasons!!
-
What a top bloke he is, shame we didn' sign him earlier in his career. Guaranteed a good reception when he returns.
-
Top bloke, good player , good luck and thanks
-
The quote from a mature player.
Thanks Brad, good luck mate.

Spot on. That's the difference. Fair play to Brad for his comments.

Good man, So, why did we let him go.
-
Good man, So, why did we let him go.
I think we let him go because we weren't prepared to offer a 40 yr old a two year contract and I think we were right. He gave us three good years and we have replaced him with a younger model of similar quality. He has his two year contract and a nice signing on fee and everyone is happy. He also takes the time to send a message which shows his class and dignity and ensures he will be highly thought of. Maybe he should do a bit of PR management with some younger players when he hangs up his gloves.
-
How nice. Back at ya Brad.
-
Would of been nice to of had a similar message from Ashley considering we took the gamble on him and made him who he is now. Didn't see Fergie batter an eyelid at you when you at Watford buddy!
If I remember correctly didn't Barry come out with something similar just after he joined Man.City?
-
I personally would like to thank Brad for making the effort in saying a few words that supporters respect. In between training, looking for a new home etc. he didn't in a million years have to do this but I for one believe it makes one hell of a difference to how supporters might treat you afterwards. A lot of players are treated as almost god like figures, especially with the youngsters and a few words of thanks isn't really all that hard to do.
Top Bloke ;)

Fair play to him, what a top man.

Well summed up
-
Top goalie, top bloke. I was well chuffed when we signed him and was sorry to see him go, I wish him all the best.
-
Shame he's signed for such a horrible club but I wish him all the best.
-
Good luck Bradders. I highly recommend his book by the way. He seems like a very intelligent individual.
-
Fair play to him, a very nice touch that he didn't have to say, and something that not many players seem to do.
-
What an absolute top bloke, glad to have had him for the years we did.
Lets hope that Given's just as good on and off the pitch.
-
Great bloke and goalkeeper, shame we didn't have Brad when he is about 29ish.
None of this crap from Dwight Yorke and Stuart Downing.
-
Class act. He was a great signing and was, still is, one of the best keepers in the Prem. He'll take some replacing, but thankfully in Given we've got someone capable. Not just in terms of quality, but in terms of also being a positive influence and role model on the younger players. Good luck Brad. Top bloke.
-
Comfortably the best O'Neill signing for me. Top class 'keeper.
-
Shame we didn't buy him a few years earlier. Top man, good luck to him, though I do hate Tottenham.
-
Nice bloke but frankly I hope he's picking the ball out of the net on an extremely frequent basis.
-
Fair play to him, a very nice touch that he didn't have to say, and something that not many players seem to do.
They don't, but it's so easy to do and has made us feel warm and fuzzy. You would have thought, for their 10%, agents would throw in a bit of basic PR.
-

Really? A very good player no doubt, but a better signing than Young or Milner?
-
Nice touch Brad. Best of luck.

That's what tends to surprise me. For all the advice they pay for and receive, and given that perception's normally more important than reality, the advice players receive from their PR people seems to be poor value for money. Or maybe the players are earning so much, they don't need to worry about positive PR.

One of the better keepers we've had post Bosnich -possibly the best.
There were definite signs the old reflexes were going last year though. If I was a Tottingham fan I wouldn't have exactly been doing cartwheels at the thought of his arrival.
To really put the boot in -and go against the grain of most of this thread- we obviously weren't important/ attractive enough an option for him to remain. He joined us on the up -and played a big part in our consistently good defensive record for two seasons. But when things looked set to get a bit tougher here, he didn't want to stick around. His prerogative, but I'll hold fire on the gushing sentiments. Even if he does say a few nice words on his ex clubs website.

I would put him 2nd to Young, but Milner I give MON very little credit for, as he got very lucky in that he had no choice but to move him inside when he failed to replace Barry and lucked out on him being superb. Also, the club and Milner had a long running thing so think he was quite an easy signing. Big Brad was a real big signing at the time, and shocked quite a few. Excellent in spells, decent in others, but never terrible like some keepers can be.
Given will prove equally good value.

What contract if any was he offered to stay? A two year deal at 40 is too good to turn down
-
'Hey, check out the big brain on brad!'
thanks Quentin!
-
Nice sentiments, it's good to know there are still some gentlemen left in the game.
Best of luck to Brad and thanks for the service.
-
Can't argue with that, nice sentiments.
-

I disagree.
Many people were up in arms that we were spending so much money on a player who sometimes struggled to get into Newcastle's first team and it's not like his loan spell suggested he was a £12m player.
O'Neill saw something there and managed to bring the best out of him.
Put it this way, had it not been for O'Neill, there's no way Milner would be earning £100k per week following a £26m transfer.

I can't go along with this.If you want to slate him for the signings that went wrong then you can't dismiss the ones who were a roaring success as lucky.O'neill for his failings did sign Milner and he got the very best out of him as he did with a number of players.
-
Brad was a good signing, no more no less
For every point he saved us, he lost us one
That's the view from above
He was not worth another £5m in wages, thats for sure

Brad is gone, Shay is in.
There you go.
A positive post.
-
Happy with Given but Big Brad has class ...........
-
I'm mildly impressed.
