Abit of confusion on Twitter, but rumour is Villa have contacted FA saying Bent injured.
That's why he isn't in the England squad.
Also how long has it been since we had an England squad with no Villa players?
-
He's just been left out. He walked off the pitch when subbed, didn't look like he was injured.
But what do I know?
-
Not sure.....did he look injured when he came off?? Kinda brings it home when you see the squad: Downing, Young, Barry, Cahill, Milner and Walker.....that's some team we could've had!!
-
Clever...keep him under wraps for Fulham on Sat instead of that pointless midweek friendly.
-
Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck
Shittest bunch of England strikers in many a long year that.
-
Guess he'll have to move to Citeh, then?
-
I cannot for the life of me see how he is not an automatic starter, let alone being in the squad. He did enough last season surely to ensure the number 9 shirt for the remaining qualifiers.
-
My money is firmly on him being in the starting Villa line up on Saturday. I'm delighted he's not playing a meaningless game in midweek. He looked fine all game and when he came off, and Villa have withdrawn him over a "knock" then it's only what Man U/Liverpool etc have been doing with their players for years. Club over country every time for me.

Have Villa withdrawn him?? Or is Capello being a complete tosser?

I know Capello has been proven to be a bit of a knob at times, but seeing he's been very good indeed in the past few games, I doubt he's dropped Bent. I'd say he's rested him but I could be mistaken. But if he has completely lost his marbles, and he has dropped him, then 1) good for us, and 2) get the man a straight jacket.

Matt Kendrick reporting that he has pulled out with a shoulder injury.

Both.

Matt Kendrick reporting that he has pulled out with a shoulder injury.
didn't look to be hurt when he came off so hopefully one of those mystery injuries, or something very minor where Villa have made the decision as a precaution. My guess is had it been a qualifier he'd be playing.

Perhaps Darren has learned how to feign injury from Sir Alex?? I do trust Mat Kendrick though - he's not wrong very often.

clearly looking at this lot apart from Shrek he is giving the second string a chance and obviously resting Darren.
-
I for one would be really happy if no Villa player ever played for England again!! Barry,Milner, young, downing all suddenly became unsettled at villa after they became England regulars!
-

To right, everyone else does it so why shouldn't we? We'd be up shit street if he got injured, so why take the risk?

Its been going on since Gerry Hitchens!!
-
I hope he recovers for Fulham glad he has pulled out of the England squad pointless match anyway.
-
England or no England....Bent 20 plus goals this season, we at very best make Europa league, either of Manc clubs or Chelski offer £35 in the summer, Villa say no way, Bents being offered Champions league football, he goes for £40 million.
-

Don't forget Crouchy

Cheery, but not inconceivable thought. Same with any of the youngsters if they fulfil their potential.
-
Hopefully the injury isn't too serious and he'll be fine next week.
-
Mick McCarthy has gone off on one about the timing of this freindly and quite right too, it's absolutley ridiculous.
Like someone else said earlier, i would'nt care less if we did'nt have another player picked for England again. Still, i suppose it gives the F.A another chance to pay off Wembley.
-
DB has just tweeted that he has had to pull out because his shoulder has been bothering him and he wants to be fully fit for KO on Saturday
-
As long as he does the biz for villa fuck England and that pointless friendly

I agree, but I was concerned he'd been dropped and as a consequence it would make him unhappy at Villa if he wasn't received England recognition.
-
Danny 'effing Welbeck?
-
This is Bent's tweet:
"Gutted I had to pull out of the England squad, the shoulder has been bothering me and wanna make sure I'm fully fit for the big KO next week"

Good lad Darren.
-
Glad to see he's got his priorities in order.
-
Was Bent dropped or not? Sky saying Welbeck was picked instead. Wilshere has been named in the squad despite an ankle injury. Capello is a dick anyway!
-
Dropped/rested or not does it really matter because its only a stupidly timed friendly.
-
Well since he's tweeted that he was injured I'll take his word on it. Also there's no way Capello would drop him from the squad after starting him recently.

I don't know, Capello? I just don't rate the guy - £6M a year? Overpaid jerk!
-
Darren has said he is sorry he had to pull out of the squad. Answers itself to me.
-

I love you Darren.
Am I wrong in saying that?

Not at all. We're all guilty of a little Bent love on here.

If things go to plan, I'll be advocating threesomes with N'Zogbia next.
I need to lie down now.
-
It's good to be Bent.
-
Well at least the absence of Bent (or indeed any Villa players) from the squad means we don't have to worry about any unnecessary injuries prior to the start of the season.
We have a small enough squad as it is!
-
Does anyone know if CNZ has been called up by France? It would suit us if he hasn't, so we can work on getting him fit for Fulham.

Somebody said to me the other day they couldn't for the life of them understand what all the star status was about concerning Andy Carroll, he reckoned he's only scored 36 goals since 06/07 season, my initial response was utter crap, if that was the case he wouldn't have merited a 34ML price tag to Liverpool, unless they are stupid, from what i can tell that stat is correct, which if so, that's incredible for a front man.
-
Sky Sports News report that Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley will be called up to the England squad for the friendly with the Netherlands on Wednesday.

He Looked reasonable yesterday, thought Ashley Young was buzzing, every time the commentator mentioned Young's name when he had the ball i immediately kept thinking where's Gabbs........

He's 22. in 2006 he would have been 17! He only got a regular start in the season they were in Division 2 so his record isn't bad. DOn't think he'll stay fit long enough to be great but if he does then he'll be a real handful.
-
Crouch has a fantastic England record, 22 goals in 42 games, and Rooney is arguably the best English striker for a generation. Defoe and Sturridge are very good strikers and can't make the squad and with Bent being injured I don't think we're too badly off for strikers.
-
I can't wait until Milner is dropped through lack of first team action and poor form. After all, he went to Citeh to ensure his place in the England setup.

Isn't there an argument about the quality of opposition for Crouch's goals? And when was the last time Rooney has performed to his abilities in an England shirt. 3 years ago? Defoe is very hit and miss and like Bent sometimes, if he doesn't score, the team can be down to 10 men. And Sturridge needs to be playing regularly beofre you can really consider playing him in competitive England teams.
On paper we might not be too badly for strikers but how many goals did we score from our strikers in tournaments in the last few years.
