Frankel looks a once in a lifetime horse.
Won again today to make it 8 wins from 8.
Will he ever emulate Brigadier Gerard though?

It was a pretty special performance.
There doesn't really look to be a limit on Frankel's ability.

He destroyed Canford Cliffs in three strides. I have only ever seen two other horses with that level of acceleration - Dancing Brave and Sea Bird II. Shergar may have been on a par but we shall never know.

Dubai Millenium? Dettori reckons he was the best he has ridden.
-
I never saw Dubai Millenium Bald Eagle. I saw Dancing Brave, Sea Bird II and Shergar in the flesh. Those who saw Dubai Millenium confirm Dettori's opinion of him. So You Think looks an awesome beast of a horse and his demolition of Workforce may see him on the road to a pinnacle of all time greats.
I saw the legendary Ribot but I was still a callow youth and it did not really sink in what I was seeing.
-
Royal Villain: Uttoxeter 2.30. 33-1 and price coming down. E/w and rev forecast with favourite.
-
Anyone see Black Caviar the other Saturday? Australia's wonderhorse. 22 unbeaten now.
-
Anyone get on my tip in the betting thread the other week?
-
Roll on the winter for the jumps.
-
Call Back - 9:10pm @ Worcester.

Is it a good swimmer?
-

Also Epsom 2.40 St Nicholas Abbey
3.15 Long Awaited

Gone for Mars each way
-
Royal Ascot starts tomorrow and my banker for the week is Animal Kingdom which runs in the first on Tuesday, does anybody have any bankers for the festival?
-
Frankie had the bookies trembling with fear at Ascot again today after winning the first four races including the gold cup. In the fifth he just got pipped into second, a great days racing that got the crowd buzzing.
-
Looking forward to seeing if Enable can make history with a third Arc win.

Anyone see the photo of Gordon Elliott sat on a dead horse? Fucking disgrace.
-
Anyone see the photo of Gordon Elliott sat on a dead horse? Fucking disgrace.
The photo is a disgrace, and his attempt to explain it beyond pathetic. His licence has to be removed, but whether they will have the guts to do that when Elliot holds so much clout is by no means certain.
As a horse racing fan, its impossible to offer any justification, or mitigation for his actions.
-
Yes I've seen it and his explanation is pathetic.
The man is a disgrace for doing that. He looks like one of those lowlife trophy hunters with their kill.
-
He does. He should be banned without doubt.
-
It's always '' A moment of madness'' isn't it? It's bullshit. It's the tip of an iceberg that rarely pierces the surface but it goes on behind closed doors all the time I'd wager. Fuck Horse Racing and Elliot the little, fat shit.
-
So Elliot the prick got a six month ban, in reality his yard will still run as before only under a different name.
A similar case emerged as Jockey Rob James was pictured sat astide a dead horse laughing, should be no excuses and both should have lifetime bans.

If this was a run of the mill trainer, then it would have been a lifetime ban.
-
No matter how much ITV Racing pull those concerned faces and talk in grave tones the simple fact is that Elliot will be back at the start of the next NH season (proper) and it will still be somewhat raw.
The punishment just doesn't, in any way, negate the damage done, particularly in the minds of the general public and when he is pictured smiling in the winning enclosure and the uninitiated enquire of his identity he will forever be the trainer that sat smiling on a dead horse for a funny photo. And for those of us that follow Racing, we will always have doubts about just how well his horses are treated.
-
Don't know what can be done here really. The ban is not really going to have any effect on him.
The only thing is that to the wider world he'll always be the guy who took a selfie while sitting on a dead horse rather than his racing achievements.
There might be a queue of people offering to do the same when his time is up though.

Fail to see why ITV Racing are getting dug out here! I think they've reported the story the best they could. As for how his horses are treated I'd like to think the lads, lasses & the rest of his stable staff love the horses as much as anyone else involved in the sport does. It's an issue that racing could have well done without but hopefully only good will come of it.

Cheltenham has cleaned me out today, good job Rangers and Hearts league doubles has saved me this season.

Ok Racing experts will Rachael Blackmore be the first female jockey to win The Gold Cup?

I'll answer my own question, no she won't, but came a close 2nd, maybe next year.

She is the first woman to win the Grand National though. Fair play to her! https://www.bbc.com/sport/horse-racing/56701659

I have never participated in the races, I only watch on TV, but I would like to try.
-
Jockey Club does away with dress codes on all its courses.
-
I go racing regularly and dressing up is all part of the day out. I only ever go to the jumps so mainly wear winter clobber but never trainers or anything approaching sportswear.
Summer jumps is more casual but essentially you dress for the weather. Something that passed some of the more, ahem, younger racegoers by, who are seen freezing half to death in thin dresses and cheap suits at the festival.
-
Any Cheltenham investments we should be considering?
Won with Shishkin last time out so will be backing him in the RyanAir. Also won recently with Ahoy Senor so will be having him for the Gold Cup. Can anything beat Constitution Hill ?
-
The ground will have sent a lot of selections spinning and there's more rain forecast tonight.
I'll be there tomorrow but due to the astronomical cost it will be the only time this year, we will be in the Town on Friday.
I like Ben Paulings Bad in the Boodles at 4.50, with Rachel Blackmore on board.
But I'm no rich man so what do I know?
-
Just your £7.50 a pint at Cheltenham this year.
-
A mate of mine who's a farrier and apparently knows his stuff has suggested an each way bet on Master Chewy in the 1.30 at Cheltenham on Wednesday. Currently 150/1. I know fuck all about horse racing, so couldn't say whether this was good advice or not.
-
I have had a go at sticking a pin in the paper
1:30 14 Tahmuras
2.10 3 El Fabiolo
2.50 15 Monbeg Genius
3.30 1 Constitution Hill
4.10 6 Maries Rock
4.50 8 Bad
5.30 Coolvalla

I'm reading the Festival goers, while watching the Geegees, will be able drink the world's most expensive Guinness a mere £20 a pint!

I just got back from work in time to place a quick bet on the last race and had a small e/w bet on Coolvalla as it sounds like Villa, also had Chemical Energy to win but it was pipped at the post.
I’ll have a look at tomorrow’s selections tonight so I can give the bookies a bit more money!!
-
Garlic Warrior in the 1st tomorrow win or an each way. 2.50 An Epic Song, that’s what I have been told 😆
-
Gaelic Warrior not Garlic!!!
-
Won with Marine Nationale, Corach Rambler and also had State Man EW. Decent enough day.

Well done, had a win with El Fabiolo and an e/w with Mister Coffey

1.30 5 Hermes Allen
2.10 Gerri Combe
2.50 Benson
3.30 3 Edwardstone
4.10 Delta Work
4.50 Final Orders

Yeah, not a lot jumped out today. Had an E/W on Risso's tip above and then Galia Des Liteeau in 14.10, Energumene & Editeur du Gite in the 3.30, Back on the Lash in the 16.10. Somehow didnt see Delta Work, won this last year didn't he?
Good luck everyone.

"In rear throughout"
-
Has Risso's tip finished yet?
-
Turns out it wasn't good advice at all. I continue to know fuck all about racing, and am now £5 each way poorer.

I trust you’re going to reimburse my stake? That’s £2 that I’ll never get back!!!

Not so good today then by the looks of it?!
I had Pricey with me today who lashed about £30 in a few minutes on a betting app, he must have been confident after the trip to Ludlow last week, unfortunately it was unfounded and I faired similarly.
-
A fairly poor day saved by Delta Work, a third with Geaneteen and then a lovely 20-1 winner on Maskada.
Going tomorrow but the weather looks as poor as today.
-
I'm on a roll, a downward roll. Two winners on the first day and one yesterday so probably nil today.
Todays donkeys are:
1.30 Mighty Potter
2.10 Maxxum
2.50 Shiskin
3.30 Teahupoo
4.10 Datsalrightgino
4.50 Luccia
5.30 Royal Thief
-
Had a nice win in the 3.30 on Sire Du Berlais.

A nag I put a few quid on each way came in second at 40/1 in the 1:30 at Cheltenham, £200 beer money for next weeks skiing holiday.

First bet on the horses since I went to Cheltenham in 2003 on a corporate jolly and didn’t win a thing all day. This one was a tip from a mate, shame it only came in second as it did lead briefly which did get me all excited.
-
Bravemansgame for me today...8/1 each way
-
A few placings with Fugitif, Mill Green and Hitman stemmed the losses a bit. Cold, grey and rainy, £7.50 for a Guinness and a tenner for a pastie. I think I much prefer attending the smaller meetings.
-
As expected no winners yesterday, my £1 e/w accumalator was never going to worry Paddy Power.
Todays Donkeys are:
1.30 Lossiemouth
2.10 Gin Coco
2.50 Corbetts Cross
3.30 Galopin Des Champs
4.10 Famous Clermont
4.50 Allegorie De Vassy
5.30 Iroko
500k available on the ITV7 today, free to enter.

Got found out the last 200 yards but did run well. Made me few quid. Backed 8/1 each way plus backed at 6/4 to get a place.

3 winners picked, well done!
Only had the GC winner and second myself so that’s 3 poor days, I’m now going into betting retirement until the next festival when I’m sure I’ll again forget just how terrible I am at it.
-
The less said about my gambling the better.
Only went on the first day this year due to cost. Noticeably quieter in Tatts and a much more pleasurable experience as a result. They capped the attendance but there were far fewer there across all three days. It was spun as strikes and weather but everyone I talked to blamed the prices. Locals in the Town also noted how quiet it was and blamed cost as well.
They had some self serve pint dispensers and they were excellent (cost aside), I hope that's what we get in the Upper Holte.
-
Yup it’s a very expensive day and I’ll think long and hard before buying tickets for next year, before doing it anyway.
I forgot that my mate, who I was watching with on Friday, had both the horse that didn’t fancy moving any further than the start line, and Corbett Cross who decided to head butt the last fence.
-
Any tips for The Grand National later? Just had a quick look and initially thinking Delta Works with Our Power and Lifetime Ambition as outsiders but with 39 runners anything can happen.
-
I'm going Back on the Lash!
Edit: should read going "with" Back on the Lash"
-
Sadly Dark Raven has become the second horse fatality at the Grand National festival, the horse was put down after a fall in the 3pm race.

After our result earlier I might join you!!

Just seen a re-run of the National, pretty grim viewing.

Yeah and sadly another fatality, a field of 40 horses is far too many, should be half that.

I selected that, backed it at Cheltenham as well, Harry Redknapp owns it I think. Dont think it finished. Had Delta Work which also fell, had an EW on Noble Yates in 4th.

That and fence heights that are completely unnecessary.
-
I adore jump racing but yesterday was beyond the pale. Too many runners, too long a distance and the fences are too large. The sight of at least two animals practically stranded on the fences along with the other carnage was sickening. You don't get this in any other races apart from those over those horrible obstacles. It was indeed grim viewing and an awful advert for the sport at a time when it is under huge pressure. One look at that race is it any wonder people want it banned? Fortunately it's not representative of the sport in general.
I've had my last bet on it, the small amount I won yesterday will go to charity.
Never again.
-
There are definitely too many horses in the race, I don’t know enough about racing to know if the fences are too high but it looks like chaos particularly on the first circuit….would 20 horses rather than 40 make it safer?
-
I can’t understand why one horse is made to jump fences like that in the first place let alone whether 40 of them jump them. Like fox hunting, hare coursing and badger baiting it’s had its day.
-

I agree.
Horse Racing is not a sport, it's just a vehicle for gambling.
If it wasn't for the betting aspect, Horse Racing as we know it would not exist. It would just be as few countryside/posh/rich people doing point to point.
-
I concede that if there was no gambling then racing wouldn't exist although I regularly watch races not having had a bet because I love to see the horses in action but while racing continues, their welfare must be the priority. It cannot be described as a blood sport such as hare coursing because there is no deliberate cruelty and aside from Saturday's unedifying spectacle, in general terms horses are very well treated. They are bred to jump but if they don't want to race they won't. There are a number of notable horses who refuse to race from time to time and I love to see that.
I've long been a proponent of a whip ban, it should only be held in the hand to steer the horse, if you're having to hit the animal you've immediately lost your argument.
I can see why there are calls for an outright ban and I can see why people would like it to continue but large sections of the racing community need to knowledge that the scenes on the first circuit in the National do far more damage to the sport than anything else and if they don't, then the calls for a ban, along with the direct action of the type we saw on Saturday will continue to a much greater extent.
-
Who are we going for in the Gold Cup then?
I didn't go this time, cost and weather last year put me off and I didn't miss it, and have only had two small bets. Rather annoyed that my betting app reminded me that I'd won money on Protektorat in the past but I couldn't be arsed to register a new card to put funds in my account, and missed it winning at 17/1.
-
Had Absurde at 16/1. Nice start.
