Title: Watch this and get happy. (Miserable gits need not apply).
Post by: sonlyme on July 26, 2011, 08:53:32 PM
So Ash and Stewie have gone.  No more will we get to see a half hearted tackle or a mazy jinking run leading nowhere in particular.  No more the swan dive, the flailing pirouette, the triple salco.  No more the simple pass ignored, the easy cross ballooned high or wide.  No more the whining and pleading look towards the referee.  Alas poor Villa.

So against my better judgement I went and did some you tube digging (which is how Steve Bruce signs players apparently).

So before I get bombarded with the inevitable 'everyone looks good on youtube'  or some 'we're all doomed - DOOMED I tell you' nonsense - save your breath and move along.  There's plenty more in the world to moan about.

For everyone else - and anyone who fancies a fantasy moment on how the season could pan out - I proudly present.

The dazzling talent that is Charles N'Zogbia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt-fLH_MbjY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt-fLH_MbjY)

A fully fit and committed Stephen Ireland - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmOKva_tBKQ&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmOKva_tBKQ&feature=related)

And finally - that snip from out tightwad owners purse - young Dazza http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR17z-eVNPM&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR17z-eVNPM&feature=related)

Roll on, roll on.

I'm still wary about it all (because of the manager), but with the current set up we've technically fine players. Ireland, N'Zogbia and Makoun are great technical players, Bent has fantastic movement - so fingers crossed that'll aid the awful home form of the last few years.

Gabby, N'Zog and Bent are also perfect for the counter, which I think will suit us, especially away from home. McLeish played a deep line alot with SHA (which will suit Dunne, Collins and Stan).

If McLeish is a little more adventurous at Villa Park than he ever was with SHA I think we might be on to a decent thing.

a 4-2-3-1 with Ireland and N'Zogbia in tandem, Gabby exploiting the space on either wing and Bent on the shoulder should work. Then we've the exciting kids waiting in the wings to fill in the gaps. I'm very optimistic about the new season.

I think we need some more depth and a real top quality centre mid (which with the Adam and Parker interest would suggest we are after one) before we're in danger of really upsetting the top 6, but I think we're in for a decent season as it stands. And if this year goes OK and gets Ireland, N'Zogbia, Gabby and the kids up to scratch for the following year, and we can add to the defence dependant on their form I think the next couple of years start to look bright again.

Just hope the manager is capable.

Doh!  Link fixed VillaAlways.  Ta.

JJ - any man who can lift the likes of SHA to major Wembley glory must have something about him. In the history of the world no one else ever managed it.

Exciting stuff. Really looking forward to having a couple of players on the pitch who can actually strike a ball cleanly with power...then we've got Bent to slot home any rebounds. A couple of goals from Ireland and N'Zogbia in the first couple of games will be a great start to the season, and fill them with confidence.

No real chance of silverware. No chance of regular quality matches. No point doing more than watching on TV.

He's clearly a great [top top] player, has zero concept of club honour/loyalty and we haven't actually got him to sign on the dotted line yet.

I have a horrible feeling about this transfer.

When he does though:

I am reasonably optimistic I have to say.

I just think AM will run a much tighter together ship and if, and it is a big IF, Ireland, Charlie boy, Dazza and Makoun can hit it off in particular, we have the makings of a really creative fulcrum to the side. I also look back at last season and how we managed to still finish 9th despite doing almost everything we could to seemingly get relegated and of course one forgets the appalling injury run we had in the first half of the season. Factor in that I think a lot of teams are finding it a real struggle to sign anyone with any talent, mainly because there is such a dearth of it around Europe at the moment, and are really struggling with large squads with many unwanted players on huge salaries signed when times were good, and other little bits and pieces like Spurs having a european match every other week and then those inspirational Sunday 1pm kick offs and it is possible to imagine quite a promising scenario panning out next season. I think it will also help that there will be zero expectation from anyone in the media for us to do well...

Is You Tube the new opiate of the masses?  Or at least football fans?  Good on you for trying to inject some positivity and optimism, and I must admit I do feel a bit more positive now we have a couple of extra players on board.  But you can't help reminding me of one of those "animators"  you get at holiday resorts sometimes, who try to get you all enthusiastic about a shitty game of water polo with some fat Germans when you just want to chill, nurse your hangover, moan about the heat, and check out the tottie.  I've seen a few of them come close to a proper slapping.

If somebody wants to start a thread with an all too rare positive theme and lightheartedly asks those who don't feel so good about things and have to tell everybody about it in every thread to stay away. Can't they like, just fuck off out of it for once? Just one thread?

Even though stronger resources only managed ninth last season? The squad is capable of more but there are lots of issues for the manager to sort out so it will be to his credit if he does it.

For what it's worth, I think a top ten finish would be a pretty good start for McLeish, aiming to improve again the following year. A couple of good cup runs (by which I mean, winning them both ;-)) would help, too.

I agree, I think a comfortable top half finish would be decent from McLeish.   If he can achieve that without resorting to sterile, safety first football, so much the better.

I'd snap your hand off if you offered me 7th or 8th with a cup win. This squad has come close before to winning one of the two major domestic trophies, so we have some experience of getting to and handling the latter stages. I also think it will really benefit us, in AM first season not having the stupid Europa League to concern us. I'll put money on it putting a big dent in Spurs' attempts to qualify for the CL this season.

I must say that watching live ( South Africa) the game today, I didn't see a team lacking in guts or confidence. Unlike what we viewed last season.

I saw players in their right position and busting a gut. I saw youngsters failing at times but because of that being blasted by the old pro's. Good, it is  time for the Bannans of the World to earn their corn.

So- in the spirit of this thread I am confident and  will certainly give the Bald Ginger one his chance.

Actually, I am impressed so far.

Just watched the tape of us out muscling Blackburn in HK.

A solid organised defence - a quick inventive attack - and another win - can't wait to see them tackle Chelski.  Barry B was a delight.

Pre-season then - played 2 - won 2 and Dazza can't stop scoring.

But wait - I hear a high pitched whining - is the PC on the blink?  Is a pigeon trapped in a tumble dryer?  No - it can only be the virtual Villa posse -  'It's only pre-season' - 'It means nothing' - ' We're doomed I tell you' (Add your own tale of woe here) etc etc.

It means nothing?  Tell that to the rednose scousers who got all excited about the £100 million Kenny boy has spunked only to watch his new purchases (Stewie included) get thumped 3 -0 by the mighty Hull (minus naughty Jimmy Bullard).  Happy days indeed.

Add a pinch of N'zog and...

Roll on Villa.

Imagine spending the best part of £100 million and losing 0-3 to a capsizing Hull FC - it if happened round this way bed sheets would be

The creator of this post takes no responsibility for it being seen as smug - better than yow - or in any way lighthearted.
