Skysports.com understands that Nigel Reo-Coker has agreed terms with Bolton ahead of a likely switch to the Reebok Stadium.

The midfielder has attracted widespread interest since being released by Aston Villa earlier in the summer, with a number of clubs both at home and abroad keeping tabs on his situation.

A move to Italy, Germany, Spain or France appeared possible, before Bolton entered the chase to sign Reo-Coker a few days ago.

Skysports.com revealed over the weekend that he had travelled to the North West to hold talks with Bolton and it is now understood that a deal has been struck.

The Trotters are now set to finalise the signing of the 27-year-old with an announcement expected in the near future.

Good luck and best wishes, if so. Apart from when you play us, of course.

I wonder if he's surprised that bigger clubs don't seem interested. Or if he regrets leaving us.

we are a better team without him,
got two big flags of celebration flying outside my house at the moment, one for Downing and the other for NRC, just waiting to unfurl the one for Gabby.

but good luck to him, no hard feelings

Good luck to him. He did us proud last season, right up to and including his last kick of a ball, an absolutely superb tackle. He's a real confidence player and I expect Coyle to get the best out of him. If they lose Cahill, NRC will really have to earn his money up there.

I've always liked NRC,not a great but does a job. We don't have anyone like him now, wished we offered him a new deal, then again,if he was expecting too much money we done the right thing. Can't believe Bolton are offering him stupid money.

You were pleased to see our best player and one of our better players of last season leave, plus, would be pleased to see a player who struggled last season due to injury and would bleed claret and blue for the cause leave?

Hmmm, interesting!!!!!

If he could of passed the ball to one of our players, he would not have had to defend so much. Delph will be twice the player he is. He never got any better in all his time with us. He was just an average player at best. Thats why he is now with Bolton his only offer ..........

With NRC gone we can bring Delph in more now which will be better for us in the long run so we have a replacement in Fabian I wanted him to stay but looking at the bigger picture is what it's all about.

There's a lot of faith being put in Fabian Delph with precious little evidence so far. Reo-Coker contributed significantly last season and the midfield currently looks lightweight without him.

Some players are missed more when they are gone. I suspect he will be one of them.

Agreed. He proved very important when called upon as a scrapping midfield player who broke up opposition play. Every team needs one. Where is ours?

About his level, at least he won't have to worry about his appalling passing skills going there. One of the most over rated players to pull on the claret and blue in quite a while. Lord knows, there have been a few...

Whereas other people may argue he was one of the most underrated.  Keeps the game interesting to have such different views.

Our best central midfielder last season, just from Petrov, not much competition really.  I've no doubt Delph will adequately replace NRC, problem is NRC replaced Milner/ Barry in the centre and Delph, whilst imo better than NRC is not at Milner/Barry's level.  Even with Barry/Milner we were only 6th and not higher, to get back to around 6th we'd need a Parker type signing in the middle, without we will be about 8th imo.

I'd be having a serious word with my agent if I were him, he thought he was turning down Villa for a Champions league club and he was left with a choice of Bolton, Leicester or Ipswich. Shame really, he was one of the few who looked like he gave a shit about whether we went down or not for a large chunk of last season.

He would have received a signing on fee, so pretty sure his wages have matched up however he'll receive a signing on fee which he wouldn't have had at Villa.

At his best NRC is no more than an average premiership footballer. It was only in his last few weeks that he showed anything like ability we bought him for.  He's now found his level, as long as Bolton don't expect him to be able to pass the ball to another team mate.

Best of luck

That's probably a good signing for Bolton. He's a good player really, and certainly can do a good defensive job. It'll be interesting (well, not that interesting) to see how he cuts the mustard in Coyle's passing style.

Always had a lot of time for Nigel. Always gave 100%; the team always looked more solid with him in it, even though he tended to get caught in possession too much. I like his attitude and he could talk a good game too.

Yup, just as it should be.

Yup. No reason for him not to, really.

He's a low quality footballer in my opinion, who had his uses at time, but he never dicked about or acted the tit. There's no reason to throw abuse at him.

Actually, I've just remembered, he twatted O'Neill, didn't he?

I'll be throwing bouquets of flowers in his direction for that.

Reo-Coker's reputation has been built up considerably by the anti-MON lobby I would argue. Obviously the two didn't get on and I think with him being under-used due to personal differences, he's come to represent a player better than he actually is. FWIW I liked him as a Villa player and would prefer it if we still had him at the club, but he's at the level of other players we've had of the same ilk - McCann, for example. He seems like a loss until you realise you don't actually miss him.

Only a two year aswell so he'll be on the move again next summer I'd imagine.

No... although you could argue that Bolton's level is also our level now....

He'll do a decent job for them. Holden picked up a long-term knee injury last season, a six-monther, so I guess NRC will play alongside Muamba until he returns.

i did and i thought that it contradicted what he said earlier in the window when he said he hadnt heard anything from us regarding his contract and had to hear about his release from friends after they saw it in the media...

i like okey-cokey, think he is a decent player with a good work rate, but he doesnt help himself...

its interesting to see that after all the chest puffing about internazionale, ac milan, and the offers from spain, etc, during the supposed "contract talks", that he has ended up at bolton...

i wish him well though...

Decent if limited premiership player. For a free transfer Bolton have got a bargain as even 5m can't always get you one of them. He'll do a good job for them and if you have bolton's ambitions then he's perfect. Not good enough for us during the moneybags period, but post-fire sale i'm not sure we have much higher ambitions than Bolton anyway.

He's moved sideways given our current expectations. Probably not what he was thinking but come 5 pm after the Fulham game, I'm willing to bet we'll be bemoaning the lack of Reo-Coker type bite in midfield.
