Always worth rewatching this one.
-
And the 1981 Goal Of The Season as voted for by MoTD viewers.
-
One of my favourite Villa goals of all time.
-
What a turn by Gary Shaw. Pure natural talent.

A Carlsberg goal
"The best Villa goal ever?........Probably"

A few years later an Everton mate of mine proudly pointed out to me that you could see and hear Everton fans sportingly applauding that goal at Goodison. Jimmy Hill commented on that fact on MOTD.

I was at that game. Although we were having a great season, the performance and result at a difficult place like Goodison led me to truly believe we could win the title that year.

I love the story Tony Morley tells on the Champions DVD about Ron Saunders threatening to 'rest' him for the game against his boyhood team with all his family and friends due to come (hence the gesture to the bench after the goal). I also remember, whilst a lot of people point to the home win against Liverpool a few weeks earlier giving genuine belief we could win the league, a lot of the media seemed to get 'on board' after this game.

I never was a fan of Stuart Hall's match summaries on the radio but can vividly recall him waxing nicely lyrical about our performance after that game.

My old man said the same.
The game used to be on ESPN classics quite a number of times a couple of years ago.
It's about time they resurrected some of these matches again.

It's great that he gave saunders the V's, what a great season.

He'd surely get a fine and/or suspension for that these days.

He made the same gesture to the bench in Berlin the following season, but his excuse that time was he was just signalling how many goals he'd scored!
