In the 50 odd years i have been watching the villa i can only remember seeing a goal scored direct from corner by a villa player twice. The first one was by Barry Stobart in a 1-0 win at Small Heath in 64/65 season. Second one was by a tall lanky winger of the time Dave Roberts. It was at the Witton end of villa park but i am not sure of the opponents, may have been West Brom in the 66/67 season. Can anyone remember these and anymore?

Too young to remember the ones you mention, but didn't Staunton score one for us?
I know he did for Ireland, and I'm sure he did for us. Used to be annoying though as he kept trying to do it again even though the keeper and defence were ready for it.
-
I can think of 2 corner goals Steve Staunton scored for us, against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park in August 1993 and against Crystal Palace at VP one year later.
-
I can remember Staunton getting a couple for us. Both from the Holte/Trinity side. Mid 90's I think.
-
I didn't see it but remember my brother talking about the Stobart goal but no recollection at all of the second one you mention. Racking my brains as to who that might have been
-
I don't remember but now you say you have made me think now.
-
Yep Staunton scored one for us in 1995 against Palace, my second ever game! It was from the right hand side of the Holte as you look at it form the pitch. Southgate bundled in their equaliser.
-
Yeah Tom , i can remember that Staunton one against Palace in 1995 now you have mentioned it. Strange how i can remember the ones in 1964 and not the ones in 1995.
-
Stan Staunton definately did it twice
-
I'm sure Harry Burrows did it versus Leyton Orient old first division in the very early sixties. I was there and as I recall was first through the turnstiles in the old Trinity Road paddock. I met Ray Moore the Villa trainer as they were then that day, gave me his autograph, I was floating.

This just made me think of Angel kicking the corner out against Spurzzzz and then running up the other end to score an own goal for them :-[

Johnny McLeod back in '67 ..can't recall who against now, but it took several seconds to register at the Holte End when it got one of biggest cheers I ever recall.
"Hey, Hey, you, you; get offa Mcleod"
-
Didnt Mathius Breikrutz get one in front of the Holte?
-
Hi Brian , it may have been West Brom and i got mixed up with McLeod who scored 2 and Roberts who got the other goal .As one was short and stumpy and the other was tall and skinny sounds impossible i know but that is what getting old does to your memory. I just remember standing by the players tunnel and the ball just curling into the top corner of the net.
-
Yes..from right hand flag looking from the Holte..stunned everyone.. including McLeod.

Paul McGrath bundled that one in if its the one i am thinking of - Sheff United at home 1992-93.
Staunton did it against Palace in 1994 and also at Wimbledon in 1993 although some books credit - wrongly - McGrath with that goal too. Steve also nearly scored one in the League Cup Final in 1994 when he forced a save from Les Sealey - our first attempt on goal in that game.
-
The Staunton one against Wimbledon rings a bell, anyone got the time to trawl youtube for it?

Briekrutz didnt score for Villa, he might have scored from a corner in the reserves.
He looked like the german Sid in the reserves!

But I saw him score in a friendly against Shelbourne in dublin about 18/19 years ago. Also the first time I saw a then unknown keeper named Mark Bosnich

Yeah he might have got a couple in friendlies, but Briekrutz never scored in a competitive match. I also saw Bosnich for the first time in a friendly v Bari (including Platt) at villa park. We were shouting down to him in Neighbours accents "Oi Bosnich! We can see the pub from here" (like in the XXXX ad)
ah, precious memories!

And did he miss a penalty too in the same match and run over a black cat on his way to Villa Park?

I remember that, it was of the first matches I went to; I think it may have been in a 2-1 win over Derby
-
So strange, they just showed Staunton's one on SSN.
Beckham scored one last night so they're showing other cases of it happening.
-
Staunton v Palace and I think he scored one against Ipswich at Villa Park.
Both 1994/1995.

Did Carbone or Merson do it?
