Title: Phone calls from the Villa....
Post by: PaulMcGrathsNo5Shirt on June 27, 2011, 09:04:58 PM
Has anyone else received any phone calls from the Villa with regard to not renewing their season ticket?

I received my THIRD phone call from the Villa today in the matter of a 7/8 weeks with regard to my lack of season ticket renewal. I spoke to a lady by the name of Sophie who enquired as to why I was not renewing. I gave her my very frank views. (not prepared to give my money to the likes of Stephen Ireland, Habib Beye, Stephen Warnock who have absolutely no regard for the club and it's supporters). I told her I made the decision to not renew before the end of last season and as a season ticket holder of twenty or more years after the conduct and lack of professionalism shown by our players.

I stated how impressed with the club I am in terms of the customer service, as well as the fantastic efforts  and intentions of Randy Lerner and his board. She listened intently and clearly took note of everything I said. She finished off by thanking me for my many years support and hoped I would still come down to the odd game.

Has anyone else received these phone calls? I didn't get the impression that these people were commission based 'employees' who are calling customers, but genuine Villa people. Is this a new initiative by Villa to improve relations or desperation because season tickets aren't being sold?

I had a letter today asking me to get a season ticket, why my dad didn't get one I don't know. Seems strange that they send everything by two's and now they've stopped
I can't afford a season ticket right now, it maybe one of the cheapest around but its still excessive imo

I've had a brochure on season tickets sent to me today.

EDIT: Seems I'm not the only one.

I said I was taking a long holiday and would keep note of progress in Hawaii,  although I have to be up at 0900, or before, for 1500 matches. She did not quite understand but I said I'd get a bus wherever for the odd game whenever it was convenient.
I said I'd definitely be back when I qualified for the bus pass, otherwise forget the renewal calls..

We have had 2 calls, what made me laugh was the guy said to me are  you not impressed with all the stuff we are offering with the season ticket such as AVTV, I told him I could not careless about all of that I am more interested in what what happens on the pitch.

Even though I said I was not going to renew this season (this decision was made before the McLeish decision) I have decided to go again! I must be mad!!! 25 years + it is a hard habit to break

The cut off periods are happening for renewals, so expect more activity of a proactive nature next week onwards !

A decent signing or two will certainly help matters.

I just like the same seat as last season so have renewed and hoping the same miserable batstard in front of me hangs his ST up !

I don't think you can Leeg.  Sines and cosines are contained within the circle formed by the  sine and cosine angles aren't they?   A tangent as I recall is outside the circle so you can fly off on it.   Besides it is the poor option for these threads because going off at a cosine forfeits all the pun potential of tan and gent.

Stephen Hawking comes in our joint for something for the weekend.   I will ask him.

I had the call last week asking why we hadn't renewed yet. I was about to rip their head off when I realised the poor bloke was only doing his job and had probably been phoning people and taking abuse all morning. I told him the truth that I wasn't too impressed with the choice of new manager but that we were holding off making a decision for a couple of weeks to see what players come in or going out.

They phoned me about 2 weeks ago. After 16 years home and away season tickets and european travel they asked why i hadnt renewed.

I said that i wouldnt this season due to:

1. Selling our best players season after season
2. Overpaid players
3. Increase in prices
4. Appointment of Mcleish!

These were the main reasons, i feel totally let down by Randy Lerner. For all the good he's done for the club and i extend my upmost respect and gratitude for the man and for what he has done. The appointment of Mcleish has confirmed that he and the board are so detached from the supporters its untrue.
I had a good chat with the guy and in all the years i've gone up the villa, i've never known them phone up and ask if i was renewing or not. Also, the renewel date has been extended. I know at least 5 people who have been going as long as me who arent renewing and a guy who had a box for the last 3 years has cancelled it aswell. I asked the guy how many renewels he has had and he said "many". I said not as many as previous seasons and he just laughed!! A laugh to say it all.

I think the older villa fans will not take to mcleish in a way that the "new breed" fans might, but that is because we remember the bad old days under Taylor, O'leary etc. We thought we had risen from that and now we are being pulled back down. I'll always support the club but not always the decision it makes!!

Similar from me too - VCTM jnr now playing on Saturdays and finishes too late for us to get to VP for 3pm kick offs (remember those ? !!)
So there are two more lost season tickets - I had considered buying anyhow and pass my tickets on when I can`t go but to be blunt I am utterly pissed off with modern day football: -  overpaid prima donnas (players getting paid as much in a day than I get in a year), SKY hype, The Premier League, rip off prices at most grounds, football clubs talked of as "brands", ridiculous transfer fees ..................... will look out for offers at VP in the future (cannot foresee any sell outs this coming season).

I guess it could be argued that we hadn't come down from such high expectations then.  In late 2006 a lot of people genuinely thought we'd be contesting the European Champions final by now.

GJH says it all for me. Took me 50 odd years to decide i was not going to put villa before everything else in my life anymore. Halfway through the MON last season i found myself actually bored at a lot of the matches and the Moscow game was another thing that made me wonder why do i bother. Sky and this Champions league obsession have ruined the game for all bar the so called big 4, before they came along you always thought you had a chance, not any more. Villa will always be my team , i just wont be spending my hard earned cash on a club that seems happy just to stay in the Premier

Like a lot of the posters on here I'm disappointed with a lot of what's gone on over the last 12 months. But I hang on to the fact that Villa are still my team, I will always support them and they need my support right now, whether I like the manager, the owner or some of the players or not. In a few years most of them will be gone but my club will still be here. I've been down to Div 3 and Div 2 more than once, and by comparison these are not such bad times.
Call me an old romantic bugger, but I ALWAYS live in hope that we will return to the top, or thereabouts, where, in my opinion, we belong!
Received a few calls early on but already knew I was renewing and did the deed well before the original deadline day. Am I stupid? I dunno. But I definitely wanna be at VP for as long as I can be.

Chatting to a few people tonight who go up and they wont be renewing their tickets. Alot of fans are going down the non league teams to watch 22 guys who really want to play football. And the season ticket is £60!!

Thats 8 people to my knowledge who arent going next season. Its not a case of not supporting the club anymore, but where do the fans sit with the monster that is the premier league and Sky.

I think a lot of fans were looking for an excuse to jack it in next season, and the appointment of mcleish was the final decision maker.

Thats interesting, was it down to the Blose connection or the lack of ambition this appointment seemed to signal?

Hawkeye  i think his bluenose connection certainly may have played some part in some people not renewing but the 2 friends i know who are not renewing after years of supporting the club say it is a combination of things such as cost, players who could'nt give a shit, fixtures played at all sorts of time to suit TV ,putting reserve sides out for cup games, selling our best players every close season and a general feeling that at the moment the club seem happy just to make the numbers up. We all love the club and i am sure that if the club started to show some real ambition we will all be tempted back.

Pooligan totally agree, those are all the reasons i have talked to them about.

I think it could be the lowest first home game gate against Blackburn for years! Especially if we lose to Fulham first game!

Fulham will be match fit aswell by the time we play them with their europa league campaign.

Another problem is that Mcleish will have no honeymoon period, as soon as we start to struggle the fans will turn on him. Guaranteed!
