Did you mean Craig ? PS I know you are joking.
-
Id reallty rather not bring Craig "always been a blose fan" Gardner back. Wonder what he'd say on return? I don't think i'd be able to accept it
-
I just think we should be looking at a better calibre of player.
-
No for me, He left and all that bleeting about how it was his dream to join Blues has put me off.
He'd cost more than we sold him for and he'd warm the bench again, I'd like to see Delph play instead.
Foster & Dann but that's it from them
-
I like Craig Gardner as a player. I was very disappointed when we sold him, but kept the likes of Sidwell.
Gardner could do a very good job for us, he has improved. Not sure I want him back because his mouth was working overtime once he'd crossed the border.
-
I voted the bottom option. They're both ****** but Barton is the better footballer.
-
I'm looking at it from the fact that he is a good footballer. I think he had a better season last season than Reo-Coker or Petrov. Craig could do a job for us. Barton, would be an excellent player. Shame he's a twat.
-
I think we can go out and get a better player than Craig Gardner.
-
Haven't a problem with him myself though he's not really that good is he? As for his rants against us, I think Mcliesh must realise some sections of our support are sensitive enough right now without him poking them with a big gardner shaped stick. Can't see it happening myself
-
Never thought he looked good enough (other than the scary stare) when he played for us but admittedly he did well for Blose. Think Barton is a better footballer but he is a complete c**t. Surely we can do better than either?
-
Apart from the 'I've always been a blues fan' stuff I dont think he said anything negative about us did he? I was sorry to see him go and I think he looked a better player last season for playing regularly. I'm not so sure he would get the same opportunity if he was to return
-
If he wants to bring an ex-villa player back, offer Bolton 12m and Dunne for Cahill. Get us all onside.
-
Maybe he said some of that stuff about being a Blose fan because he feared the crowd down there?
-
I never particuarly rated him so wasn't sorry when he left but to score the goals he did from midfield in a struggling side shows that he's got something.
That said I don't want him back but suspect that we're going to have get used to the press making up links to any player with a connection to McLeish and also to some people taking them seriosuly.
-
Maybe he said some of that stuff about being a Blose fan because he feared the crowd down there?
Or maybe it was beacuse he is a Nose.
-
I don't think he's good enough, he might score a few goals from midfield, but he's not got any creativity to his game, and that's why he probably suited Birmingham's style of play perfectly.
To sum him up, he's the opposite of Charlie Adam, who scores goals but does it on the back of playing nice football as well.
-
Would it be worth buying back Gardner when we've got a much better, similar player in Delph already (and who we paid 8 million pounds for)?
-
Maybe he said some of that stuff about being a Blose fan because he feared the crowd down there?
Or maybe it was beacuse he is a Nose.
I accept that, but he is a professional footballer....we'd have to accept him if he came back. I'd like to think we're bigger than the Rangers/Celtic stuff.
-
Would it be worth buying back Gardner when we've got a much better, similar player in Delph already (and who we paid 8 million pounds for)?
No.
I always assumed that signing Delph was the reason we let Gardner go and, as you say, he's a much better player.
-
No thanks. If we're going to be taking players from them, there are better options. If we take too many players off them, we'll end up being them. And that would mean the majority of us losing 50 or so IQ points. So, again, no thanks.
-

No.
I always assumed that signing Delph was the reason we let Gardner go and, as you say, he's a much better player.
Not to mention Gardner junior who by all accounts is a much better player. No, I think as you say we'll be linked with all sorts off riff raff from Blues, but the only ones I'd even consider would be Foster and Dann.
-
Why would we want him? He was clearly not good enough when we sold him & it would be a huge backward step if we got him back. His passing is abysmal & other than having a decent shot, I can't see what he offers. Delph has already shown 10x more quality during his occasional appearances.
-
I can't think of too many players I'd be less excited to see us sign. We should be aiming to sign better players than Craig Gardner.
-
I wouldnt want this pile of 5h1te back at the villa considering what he said when he moved over to the dark side. plus, he isn't that good. He was the best player in a rubbish side.
I dont think we can rule this out anyway as we thought the board would listen to the majority of villa fans that said no to Eck but they still went ahead and brought him on board.
-
He can come back, providing he plays for free and doesn't mind warming the bench. Never was good enough in my view. Good shot on him, but sod all else.
-
I'd prefer it if we put in a bid for Craig David.
-
I'd prefer Craig Charles and his crack pipe.
-
Not good enough then, not good enough now.
No ta.
-
He should have stayed and fought for his place. He didn't so no thanks. He was better than Gavin McCann but he's not better than Delph, Makoun, etc.
-
the only decent thing he has on him is a shot, hence why he managed to score so many last season
-
I'd prefer Craig Charles and his crack pipe.
That's no way to smoke is it?
-
I accidentally voted yes. I mean he is a decent enough player and I'd have liked him to have stayed and get more of a chance but we have enough forward thinking midfielders so I don't want him back but I concede he is a good player.
I don't want us to sign Milner or Barton for the same reason.
-
Thought he was good and good enough when here, and I agree with Wilshere, he's proved it by scoring as many as he did in a crap side. Hoewever I think he burned his bridges with us with his "always a bluenose" comments when he left.
-
Rubbish thread.
-

Agreed, especially when 8 people think 'Craig Gardner is a great player'.
-
I like Craig Gardner as a player. I was very disappointed when we sold him, but kept the likes of Sidwell.
Gardner could do a very good job for us, he has improved. Not sure I want him back because his mouth was working overtime once he'd crossed the border.
Same for me.
-
There didn't seem to be an option for those of us who think he's a decent enough player and don't think he's a ******.
-
I replied to his Twitter comment (Tweet??) by saying, no disrespect but I really hope we don't resign him. Still awaiting his response. Wilshere also made comments about hoping Harry Forrester does well after leaving us and felt sorry for him not getting a chance. Would like to see Gary get a chance this year though, heard alot of promising things.
-
No thank you, not good enough when he left, not good enough now.
-
No thanks he can go to Sunderland or stay in the championship.
-
There didn't seem to be an option for those of us who think he's a decent enough player and don't think he's a c***.
I know.
-
Why no option for:
"Decent player, not the sort of quality we should be looking at though?"
-
Interesting bloke. Said he was a Villa fan when he was here, then came up with the lifelong Bluenose stuff when he went there. And then when they go down he makes more noises in the press about a possible move away than all his non lifelong blue team mates put together.
-

You could just have easily opened that post with 'Complete C&%T' as 'Interesting Bloke'!!
-
Let's hope his brother turns out to be a better player and person.
-
Absolutely no way. Thank you very much.
-
I think we can go out and get a better player than Craig Gardner.
then again did you think we could get a better manager than Mcrelegate?
-
MON joins us as manager and we're linked with everyone who played for him at Leicester/Celtic.
Houllier joins us as manager and we're linked with everyone who played for him at Liverpool/is French.
Inevitably, therefore, McCleish joins us as manager and we're linked with everyone who played for him at Blues/is Scottish.
As was the case with MON and Houllier, some of these will indeed come to pass. However, I don't think Gardner will be one of them.
-
Nine goals in 42 games for a relegated and extremely defensive side is impressive. But I wouldn't imagine there's much choice in him joining us (then again, I wouldn't have expected his ex-manager to join us, either).
-
Gardner won't be back, I am very confident of that.
-
No thanks.
-
I know not everyone will agree with me but i didnt really rate him as good enough for us the blues players that are would be Foster, Dann and possibly Johnson
-
I know not everyone will agree with me but i didnt really rate him as good enough for us
I do.
In the position he plays for us he'd be behind Delph and Bannan for me.
-
No. We sold him for a reason and only Blues wanted him. Says it all. Not good enough.
-

yeah id just got up ;-)
-
Don't rate him, he just has a good shot. A poor man's Hitzlsperger.
-
Good player, not great. No thanks. I'd rather we re-sign NRC
-
I think he should have seen more game time whilst he was here, and always thought of him as a useful squad member. Can play in a few positions and weigh in with a few goals.
But for all the shite he's come out with since leaving us I'd say his bridges are well and truly burned. He's also not really good enough to risk the aggro the deal could potentially cause.
-
Id rather we resign Dennis Mortimer
-
He was average at best. Don't even think about it. Next thing you know we'll end up with half of the blose squad - and their manager.
oh....
-
IF McLeish is going to raid his former club I'd rather it be the keeper & centre back
-
Hitzlsperger on a free rather than Gardner for £6m for me.
-
Hitzlsperger on a free rather than Gardner for £6m for me.
Me too.
-
Why no option for:
"Decent player, not the sort of quality we should be looking at though?"
Substitute the word manager for player.......
-
I'd have him over Jordan Henderson, I know that.
-
Wasn't quite good enough to be a regular first teamer with us before we sold him and nothing has changed.
-
Sure this wont happen, but then again was just as confident Mcleish
wouldn't be our manager!!
-
I'd have him over Jordan Henderson, I know that.
Correct. And he's also a much better player than Hitzlsperger.
However, I cant see him coming back here. He'd be a laughing stock rather than a hate figure.
-
MON always seemed to play Gardner out of position (right back). Not a bad player but couldnt get into our 11 then and wouldnt now.
Mcleish made it clear on TALKSPORT this evening that he wont be going back to blose for players.
His upcoming legal case against them will ensure that there wont be any deals to be done on players.
-
He'd come back if wanted him. I hope that we've the self respect not to ask him
-
Mcleish made it clear on TALKSPORT this evening that he wont be going back to blose for players.

Its simply not in their interest to refuse to do business with us, they are going to want plenty of our sub standard players over the next few years.
-
He's deeply average. But none of the options on the poll.
-

He didn't mention Dj Campbell did he?
-
I wouldn't have him back. I think we have better players than him already & should be looking for better in the transfer window.
Also think that as a lifelong blue nose he should stay with "his" club & continue his badge kissing & chest thumping antics in the championship.
-
No thanks to Craig Gardner, not really the type of player I am hoping the new manager will be bringing in and found his level at The Sty
-
I notice he keeps getting linked to another club, particularly Sunderland. Considering he's only been at the "club of his dreams" for just over a year or so you'd have thought he'd been keen to get them back into the top flight but no, it looks like he's willing to bugger off already. No loyalty in football these days but to be fair he's probably forgotten who he supports anyway.
-
where's the option
No, because he's simply not good enough to be a regular ? A shame, as I think he showed a lot of heart at Villa.
-
My bluenose workmates just would not be able to handle it. First their best ever manager defects to the Villa and then their badge kissing leading goalscorer goes to.
-
I think had he stayed he would have been a regular in our midfield last season, getting in the side over Hogg when we had those bad injuries.
-

yes he would . but I was thinking Gary Mac and Sid would be getting a game at times with the injuries.
-
I think he's improved since going to Small Heath, maybe having less pressure giving him more confidence and playing for a small team helped his game. He's always been decent at shooting, that's not really new, but am I the only who thinks he's got quicker? I don't know if it's the Under Armour he's been wearing under his jersey giving him super aerodynamics enhancing speed or he's just looks deseptivly quicker playing in a slow team?
-
Not a top 6 player so no thank you.
Highlights player, unfortunately I've seen alot of Blues last year and their tactics around him instruct him to shoot on sight.
-
He's not coming back, but it galls me to think we spent the what we did on Mr Invisible Sidwell when we had a better player on our books.
-
I hope we never consider CG for a return. What kind of "fan" masquerades as a Villan and then crosses town and declares that he has always been a noser ? Then, just as soon as they get relegated he wants to jump ship from his boyhood club.
They say that you can change your job, you can change your wife but you can never change your club. As far as I would be concerned that is not the calibre of player I want to see wearing the claret and blue.
For Big Eck to bring CG across town would be rubbing our "noses" in it.. no pun intended .

I agree he's looked better lately, but a piece of broken glass can shine like a diamond in a manure heap.
-
How anybody can contemplate having that little shit back here after what he did is beyond me.
-
If I were a betting man I'd be placing a fairly sizeable wedge on this happening in the very near future
-
Gets stuck in and knocks in a few goals from
midfield-I wouldn't be totally against it but I'd prefer joey Barton who has got his act together in the last year and is now being strongly linked with arsenal.
-
I'd probably rather have Gardner back than re-sign Reo-Coker.
*ducks for cover*
-
According to mysterymans post About ecks forum Gardner is keen to return but mcleish isn't interested.
-
where's the option
No, because he's simply not good enough to be a regular ? A shame, as I think he showed a lot of heart at Villa.
What rubbish! 10 goals from midfield not good enough? How many did Petrov and NRC score??
-
when he left he said and suggested a lot of the things you shouldn't say about your former suitors, especially if they are your local rivals. By kissing the nose badge (vomits in mouth a little) you are also giving the two finger salute to Aston Villa. He would be a cheaper option top NRC, and he'd be as productive if not more so. However, he's planted his flag of allegiance quite firmly. He can stay where he is.

Couldn't disagree more. If he came back and scored double figures from Midfield I don't suppose there would be too many complaints. Goals from midfield are like gold - tell me how many Petrov and NRC scored last season between them.

What exactly did he say , apart from the fact that he had been a nose since he was a kid? Did he say any negative stuff about the Villa? I liked Craig and was sorry to see him go, particularly to them. I also think he's a better player now than he was when we sold him, probably due to playing week in week out in his favourite position and if he could come in and score 13 goals next season I dont care if he wears a small heath top under his Villa shirt. I've also heard that he's 'desperate' to come back to Villa, doesn't sound like a hard core nose to me

what exactly are you disagreeing with? I just said he'd probably be more productive than NRC so I'm disagreeing with you from his potential to produce. I just don't like the manner of his departure having proclaimed his Villa allegiance when he was with us, and as soon as he's with that lot he's giving it the full I'm a Bluenose bollocks and kissing the badge.
-

He's desperate to come back now that they are relegated. Would he be as desperate if they were still in the PL? I doubt it.
Look if he comes back, then fine. I'm sure he'll give his all and he's a good squad player. He's hardly a player that will make a massive difference and I'd rather give the likes of Delph, Hogg, Bannan or Gardner jr a go than Craig.
-
I'd welcome him back and I was disappointed when we sold him. Apart from rating him as a player, I think having Craig back would really help Gary Gardner progress too.
As for the Blues allegiance, I actually think there are some supporters and families out there who have affections for all the local clubs: a bit of an old-school, sporting attitude towards local football in general. It's not a huge issue for me. I'm sure, being a product of Bodymoor, Craig has more than a little feeling and regard for Villa. Thinking about it, I'd love to have him back.
-
I'd have him over Jordan Henderson, I know that.
Correct. And he's also a much better player than Hitzlsperger.

This, this and this.
I liked Craig and thought he was underused when he was here, but none of us could take him seriously if he came back. He should definitely leave the Sty though if he wants his career to progress.
-

He played wide midfield for Birmingham. Of course he scored more goals than two defensive midfielders. It poses as much relevance as me saying Gardner is useless as he scored fewer goals than Darren Bent.
I'm also told that he operated a shoot on site policy at Blues hence his large number of goals but poor goals to shots ratio.
I don't think Craig is a bad player. I liked him when he played for us and think his move to them has improved him but he is not THAT good. I really don't see the use in signing another attack minded midfielder either especially when it is one of the quality of Craig Gardner.
-
Anyone got any stats on how many shots Gardner had last season?
I bet he had more than most.
-
I would compare Gardner to what Hitz used to be for us. He played just off the striker and offered nothing more than a thunder bolt shot. He is a decent player and in poorer sides 10 goals from midfield and nothing else is fine. However, for clubs like us, you need more creativity and an all round game. A resounding no from me.
-
Gardner likes to have a few shots and his scoring record would be useful- whether or nit he's a bluenose doesn't matter to me as long as he does it on the pitch in a villa shirt- looked a much improved player last season .
-
He hasn't just got a good shot, he also knows how to tackle hard. However, he's an arseclown and I don't want him back at The Villa.
-
Cannot believe that 60 people would rather have Joey Barton.
Maybe we should put a bid in for Marlon King aswell, if we've gone down the sub human scum route.
-
I cant believe 15 people think he is a GREAT player? :o
-
I'd be happy to see him back.Sid Cowans used to rave about him which is good enough for me.Being played at right back was a big mistake, he never got a proper chance.I take his Blues fan comments as being hurt, like being dumped by a girlfriend...I never liked her anyway style
-
I think had he not said he was a blue nose all his life blah blah, blah, then I guess a majoirty of the 115 people who dont want him back, would have accepted him back at villa.
-
Cannot believe that 60 people would rather have Joey Barton.

i clicked i'd rather have joey barton, not that i like him, i assumed the poll maker was taking the piss knowing that barton is the last player most of us would choose. barton for me is now last but 1(craigy G) lol
-
I'd have Joey Barton all day.
Craig has burnt his bridges for me
-
If we lose players like Young and Downing, and buy drek like Gardner, then we'll be in trouble. He had a good season yes, but it's still plain to see he's nowhere near the level we need, if we want to be a top 6 side again. If we aspire to be mid-table mediocrities, then by all means, we should sign him back. I don't think he's talented enough to push on after a good season either. He'll get found out, and has no plan B. The goals will dry up. He's no Fat Frank.
-
He wasn't good enough when he was here & he isn't good enough now. Would only get in the way of his brothers / Delph's development.
-
On paper if you removed everything other than their qualities as players then there would only be one sensible choice and that would be Joey Barton who is the considerably better player. Unfortunately, Barton is a psychopath and whilst I want to believe that he has changed he might not have and I don't want to take that risk.
-

I don't like Craig Gardner at all but this post is spot on. King and Barton are in a different category altogether and I would be absolutely disgusted if the club even considered signing them or their like.
-
Yeah, what the hell, let's take Ridgewell and Davies back as well! Kevin Phillips could be a good bet, as a free agent?
-
Q: Craig Gardner?
A: No.
-
Yeah, what the hell, let's take Ridgewell and Davies back as well! Kevin Phillips could be a good bet, as a free agent?
They might throw in Keith Fahey for a laugh.
-
Off to Sunderland then?
Good news.
-

No, I was pleased when we sold him. Very limited player.
-
Looks like he is going to turn up at Sunderland and confess to being a "mac" fan all his life ........
-
Always felt sorry for him to sit on the bench and play at right back, but kissing their badge, saying that bollocks about being a nose meant he ruined any kind of respect I had for him.
-
Waye aye, been a closet mackem since he saw Quinn and Philips play together on TV.
red and white stripey underpants!!
-
i bet he will be kissing the sunderland badge this season then
-
If he wants to come back to Villa Park and kiss something - it had better be my arse!!!!!!!!!
-
Says a lot about the man that rather than give the Blues one season to help them get back into the Prem, he's one of the first out the door after they go down. With fans like these.....
-
How can he do this? I thought he was the biggest Birmingham City fan in the history of Birmingham City fans?!
-
Why eye I've alwes bin a prood Mackum sinz wotchen Marker Gabeeandeenee at Rurker Pahk.
-
Have you seen his comments? Apparently a "no-brainer" to go to Sunderland, after all the joy he expressed of moving to B9 a year ago. Prat.
-
I suppose he's always liked black cats.
-
Joining Sunderland a 'no brainer' ? How very appropriate
-
I cannot remember where unread it but apparently Gardner did want to stay at Brum City but was told he had to be sold because they needed the cash.
-

Aye, you always have to pay the Colombians hard cash.
-
I had heard from a decent source that he was 'desperate' to come back to Villa and his agent had been in touch with the club.
-

Once something is read it cannot be unread.

He can fuck right off.

As he's just signed for Sunderland I guess that's pretty much what he was told
-
decent business by Bham - bought for 3m sold for 6m. Never rated him at Villa but to be fair to the lad he didnt get many chances in the centre of midfield. Buying Sidwell for 5m while Davis and Gardner were let go wasnt great by MON.
Still think he is a bit one paced and one dimentional on the ball but was always good breaking forward and has a good shot on him. Combative too. Best of luck to him.

decent business by Bham - bought for 3m sold for 6m. Never rated him at Villa but to be fair to the lad he didnt get many chances in the centre of midfield. Buying Sidwell for 5m while Davis and Gardner were let go wasnt great by MON.

I think the fact he is a bluenose has clouded a lot of opinion about him. He got to double figures in goals last season in a side that didn't score many. Not many midfield players in the Premier League do that.
He'd have walked into our midfield for much of last season.

He is a typical Blue - one sign of trouble and he is on his toes
So who does these deals considering the Hairdresser is in clink?
Probably the same people who boguth players when they had no manager
Whatever happened to the days when a manager drove to the players house and said "i want you son" and that was it. I can understand nowadays there have to be financial issues but is it really a case of the modern manager saying
"I want x player" and then walks away until he turns up at the training ground?

Sunderland have signed Craig Gardner from Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee believed to be about £6m.
The midfielder, 24, has penned a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
He was Blues' top scorer last season with 10 goals in all competitions, and helped the side win the Carling Cup in February before they were relegated to the Championship in May.
Gardner has joined Ji Dong-won, Connor Wickham, Seb Larsson and Keiren Westwood in moving to Wearside.
Gardner told SAFC TV: "It's unbelievable, to be honest. As soon as I found out Sunderland were interested, it was a no-brainer.
"I've been a Sunderland fan all my life and used to watch the lads from the stands in the Roker Park days. To sign for my boyhood heroes is a dream come true.
"Obviously, I have heard so much about [manager] Steve Bruce and his backroom staff and how good a chairman Niall Quinn is.
"It's such a massive club and their ambitions for this season meet my ambitions, and it was too good to turn down."
South Korea striker Dong-won completed his transfer from Chunnam Dragons to Sunderland for an undisclosed fee just hours before Gardner sealed his move on Thursday.
Dong-won, 20, is the second striker to join the Black Cats in as many days following 18-year-old Wickham's £8.1m switch from Championship outfit Ipswich.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce signed goalkeeper Westwood and winger Larsson from Coventry and Birmingham respectively on free transfers.
Gardner believes the signings demonstrate the club's desire for success.
"It means that the club wants to go places," he added. "Obviously, we want to finish as high up the table as we can. We want to be in Europe next year and it's a great task to go and chase.
"It's a good goal for us. We can go and do it, and I am sure we will."
