Title: The press spin - again
Post by: Hookeysmith on June 17, 2011, 08:53:52 AM
Do not want to go into the whole manager appointment thing but once again i look on in amazement on how they reported the protest etc in such a negative way

considering

Liverpool fans on the streets under the reign of Gillete / Hicks - even though they had spunked millions in Rafa's crazy / shit appointments - the fans were always vindicated and the board looked like the baddies

Ditto with the Glaziers - its not as if they have tightened the purse strings since they have been there have they  - yet no ridiculing of the fans for their protestations

Now all i hear is how Mcliesh is shit due to releagtions on his cv - yet balloon head has a good few with different teams but because he threw money at Spurs and they had their season in the shamps league he is considered now the saviour of football

Then the whole "Villa are a selling club"

United sold the lady boy
Spurs - Carrick / Berbatov / Keane / Defoe and now will eventually lose Modric to a "bigger wealthier team"

Arsenal - almost nailed on Cesc will go

I know you might think that i am trying to justify our amatuerish efforts over recent week but the whole press thing really gets on my tits as they are so biased

And it's never been any different.  Spuds have always been talked up by the Cockney press and 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' are still regarded as an untouchable despite the fact that they havn't won the League for over 20 years and their supporters saw us banned from European competitions.  That never get's a mention either.

The unquestioned devotion shown to both these Clubs by the media in Britain is shocking.

Dave Woodhall did a good piece in today's Times.

Conversely, the piece above his by the staff reporter said that Lerner paid for the McGregor statue. I think supporters who chipped in might have something to say about that.

We have been a selling club for the last few years though, no media spin there.

Sold Barry, no replacement.

Sold Milner, no replacement (I dont think anyone even with the highest hopes thought Ireland would replace Milner).

About to sell Ashley Young, doesnt look like the board are willing to fund a replacement.

Spurs sold their players at the right time, got maximum value for them and reinvested it wisely. Have we?

And for all the talk of N'Zogbia, it looks highly likely that he'll be off to Newcastle or Sunderland.

What the press can't get their collective heads round are the following facts.

In the all time 1st division Villa are 5th (including the PL)

In the all time Premier league Villa are 5th

We are one of 4 English teams to have won the European cup.

We are the biggest club in England's 2nd city... other second cities are Milan, Barcelona, Lyon...

We are not deluded to hope or even expect more.
