Title: The memorial plaque
Post by: dave.woodhall on June 01, 2011, 12:00:40 PM
No, it hasn't been forgotten. After a few mishaps the other end (the man in charge left without telling anyone and I think we were been pushed to the back of the queue in favour of a bigger job) it should be finished this week and be with the club next.

Personally, I don't think something like this should have a grand unveiling and I'd be happy if it was just quietly screwed to the wall and left for the world to see. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

I was thinking about this the other day and then went on a course so could not get to H&V, but great news on the memorial plaque and I agree about no grand unveiling let's just get up.

Dave do you know where exactly the club will put it ?

Great, thanks for sorting it out Dave.

If somone has time once it's put up, it'd be much appreciated if you could post a photo as I doubt I'll get to see it for a while otherwise.

I guess it will have to be outside the Trinity Road reception as that's the only place which is closed off at night. It should make a good complement to the statue.

If the same thing could be done to Martin O'Neill you can count on me for a large contribution.

I've only just noticed that this plaque is being done. I'm so pleased. Arthur Dobson who died in France in 1918 was my Great Uncle. His full name was Henry Arthur Dobson from Chesterton in Staffs. I take his picture to every game as a good luck ritual. He's a family legend for us and therefore only supporting Villa is allowed in our family.
I would have gladly donated the whole 300 quid if I'd seen this in time.
I'm going to his grave in France in October and am thinking of buying a plaque to put there. Would the firm who made this one be able to do anything? I'd obviously pay for it.

My old mum is going to be chuffed to bits about this!

The plaque has arrived. It will be located to the right of the Trinity Road reception, on the wall next to the turnstile block and above the pavers, which makes the location fitting. It will be put up as soon as possible.

It says "Aston Villa's ambition. 1874 -2011".

Just a bit of light-hearted melodrama there.

Excellent! Well done to all those who made this happen.
