Sky says Ancelotti has left Chelsea.
I'd take him.
-
Sky breaking news- Carlo has gone.
-
The 2 blokes have just said that news has reached them that Carlo has left Chelsea
-
Come to Villa Carlo.
We won't sack you if you win the double.
-
lol........please merge im sorry :-)
-
Get him in!
-
It was on the cards for a while but it's still ridiculous. Just let Roman and JT crack on and pick the team, I'm sure they'll do a sterling job together.
-
3 seconds too slow Spangley!
-
Come to Villa Carlo.
We won't sack you if you win the double.
But ONLY if you win the double, mind...
-
3 seconds too slow Spangley!
my spelling let me down
-
I wonder when Abramovich will realise that a little continuity might actually bring the Champions League he's desperate for?
-
Ridiculous dismissal. If GH leaves, please come to Villa Carlo.
-
3 seconds too slow Spangley!
Maybe a few seconds more - three of us were at it!
-
Sacked or walked?
-
Sacked or walked?
sacked
-
More likely walked...
...before Roman's chums try to bump him off.
-
On the BBC rumours site it says that he'd take the west ham job because he is so desperate to stay in England. Right colours, wrong club.
-
Stability is the key Mr. Roman.
-
At last , a top manager who is avaliable.. Randy pick up the fone , he can even bring Wilkins with him.
-
Move now and get him.
-
and we could get him...
-
As classy as every by Chelsea, what a despicable chavvy little outfit they are....
-
Sacked or walked?
Walking on piles of £50 notes!
-
Randy - get him in now, don't dither, get him in - and his dodgy raised eyebrow.
-
We should go for him, he is real quality and would have no problem attracting top names.
But Mcallister has just said Houllier is definately returning next season.
-

Spot on.
-

Anything to get him off Sky anyway!
It all depends on the Houllier situation really doesn't it - we shouldn't be publicly chasing managers until Gerard has confirmed his position.
I'm not against Randy accidentally bumping into him in Harrods or anything though...
-

To France I hope!
-
GH can move upstairs and let Ancelotti and Wilkins run the team. With combined contact book we could have very good knowledge to buy players. I think it is doable to do this. We can learn the secret from Milan :) of playing players in their 60s.
-
It would be the best appointment we could reasonably make.
-
The point is Villa have to be that decisive: Sorry, Gerard; Hi, David. The point is not Carlo begs to manage Villa.
-
No chance. Get the feeling from the media spin Houllier is going to stay on.
-
Who would you prefer Ozz?
-
Right here we go - the Board need to get pragmatic and business minded on the football side this Summer.
Much as I believe GH had some obstacles that weren't of his making (and plenty that certainly were), and 9th has provided a pleasent respectability given these circumstances, it hasn't worked imo.
This is Randy and the Villa's big chance to kill two birds with one stone - Ancelotti would be perfect for us and GH can move into a Boardroom advisory role - best solution all around - GH leaves the main role with his head held high and we can retain his knowledge, Villa get the fully fit top class Manager that we need, eager to prove a point or two.
No brainer assuming he'll want to come to us that is.
-
I would welcome CA at VP the guy's a class act.
Houllier, love him or hate him we can not and must not risk his health or risk what has happened this season again. We got lucky in that GM managed to hold it together, in fact he did far better than I thought he would but I don't want to go through a season again only really enjoying the last day!
-
Ancelotti should be waking up this morning with the shadowy figures of Randy and the General at the bottom of his bed. They should have some kind of contract, a pen and a revolver. They should make it clear to Mr Ancelotti that by breakfast, either his signature or his brains will be on that contract.

No horse involved?
If he wants to stay in England, I guess we're the best choice. But I'm afraid Roma will be his next stop.
-
Eamonn, no contest chap. Ancellotti is a world class manager
-
If GH decided to step down then I would be all for Ancelotti taking over at Villa his record speaks for itself class manager.
-
No chance. Get the feeling from the media spin Houllier is going to stay on.
No problem with that. What's most critical is what role will he hold at the club, and if he remains as manager, possibly more importantly will be the support network he surrounds himself with. He needs to get in people he completely trusts and coaches he has shared success with.
-
Break the bank and go and get him now, before he is snapped up by another club.
Good manager, great contacts, knows the Premiership, decent bloke too...
-
The really odd thing about this, I was watching you're on Sly Sports when this broke and there was a load of Chelsea fans texting, emailing, calling in clamouring for MON to be their next manager. Bizarre.
I would love Ancellotti here, can't see it but if we found out he was even vaguely interested in coming Randy should be making it happen. Sorry Gez, but this would be THE step to move the Villa forward. Maybe he could be retined upstairs.
-
I'd gladly man the chainsaw in the stables, *shellac*.

He wouldn't be top of my list, but there have been a lot owrse names suggested.

Well, he may have won Serie A, Champions League, Premier League, the FA Cup, you name it, but David Moyes he ain't. :-)
-
Is there a better available target out there?

Time will tell if he is available. I still think he's off to Rome.
-

I wouldn't knock his record at all, but sometimes even the best managers are not 'right' for certain jobs at certain times.
It's easy to say he 'knows the Premier league', but two years managing a top 4 side is a lot different to taking a club like Villa and trying to get us into that elite.
Is he a track suit manager or does he largely stay away from the training? I think we need someone who works with the players day to day to get them improved.
Is his transfer record littered with discovering gems or does he use the buying power of big clubs - we need more the mega scout type right now.
None of the above is to say he's anything other than a top manager, but we present a pretty specific challenge right now and he may simply not be what we need.
-
Most managers have to take over clubs when they are at a really low ebb or a shambles... surely we must be quite and attractive offer.
Three key signings, of the level Ancelotti would be used to, could see us challenging the top four next season... maybe!
-

Apart from Chelsea's loss of form this season, he is clearly very good at getting the best out of the players at his disposal. That was evident in his first season at Chelsea and at Milan (eg he is credited as the person who transformed Pirlo from a decent attacking midfielder to one of the best central midfielders in the world). His transfer record is difficult to evaluate, as managers in Italy don't have as much power over transfers as in England. I'm not sure why we need a "tracksuit manager". If we have excellent coaches working to improve the players, I have no problem with Ancelotti sitting in the office playing freecell on his computer.

There are some good questions there John. Is there anyone who has followed Ancelloti's career now what sort of guy he is?
I agree that the sort of guy we need is a tracksuit manager who will spend time coaching and improving the players and we cannot afford to buy the finished articles. This would in my opinion be a pretty full time commitment.
On that basis I think we also need another guy that works in the background doing the scouting and dealing with some of the administration. Houllier is a possible candidate for this role although a lower profile guy might be better.
-
He was on £5m a year.
-
He was on £5m a year.
Which is more or less covered by jumping 4 places yesterday... come on Randy!
-
Ancelloti's football philosophy - It's like making cheese
“My father was a farmer. I milked the cows and cut the trees and bushes,” he said.
“The most important produce was milk, which produced parmesan cheese. And the big lesson I learnt was to wait, to be patient.
“Because he who wants to produce parmesan today, has to wait for at least one year before everything is ready for him to make cheese.
“You plant today and harvest one year or two years later. This is my philosophy with football.”
“It’s my style, my way of life,”
“You can’t be anxious for the result. If you’ve done the proper things, it will come.”
I like that.
-
He also has fantastic eyebrows. Get him and Ray Wilkins in and we will be absolutely flying.
And God knows Ancelotti can attract good players. What a coup this would be. There were people saying yesterday he cannot work for a PL team after leaving Chelsea for 12 months, it was in his contract apparently.
-
Oh we must at least have a go to get him surely - and he fits Randy remit of being out of work so not breaking a contract !
-
I'm not sure clauses like that are legal...
-
I'm not sure clauses like that are legal...
Why not?
He had a year left on his Chelsea contract, they fired him and paid up the contract. He's basically still on their payroll without having a job to do.
I'd be very surprised if he were allowed to manage in the Premier League before the end of the contract he signed with Chelsea.
-
They are a restriction of trade, against the European human rights laws and all that jazz...
-

No they're not. No more so that putting in a contract that you're not allowed to work for another club while you're employed there. While they're paying his wages they stop him from working for a potential competitor. It's a no-brainer.
Incidentally, Mourinho had the exact same clause when he left Chelsea. So it's definitely legal.
-
I'm not sure clauses like that are legal...
You cannot stop somebody from working. Any attempt to enforce that clause via way of injunction would be rejected by the Courts.
I forget the case now. Some pish 70's band like Saxon.
-
I'm not sure clauses like that are legal...
If he has signed a severance contract which includes such details then it would be hard for him to argue otherwise.
-
Well, according to Football365, Ancelloti to Villa is ON...

-
I think I heard on the beeb that the thing about him not being able to go to another PL club had been removed as part of his compensation agreement.
-
Its too wide a clause to be enforced anyway. Its only put in there as a try on.
-
Well, according to Football365, Ancelloti to Villa is ON...
Any link?

I know it's obviously not an exact science (or Bob Bradley would be our manager), but the bookies and the people putting their money where their mouths are have pretty much given Redknapp the Chelsea job now. Harry that is, I think you can still get pretty good odds if you think it'll be Jamie.

Apparently several have closed their book after he was seen at Cobham. Although the source is twitter so about as reliable as the Current Bun.

I'd possible take that story a bit more seriously if they spelt Ged's name right in the opening sentence.

It was the last paragraph that worried me a bit. Other names in the fram are David Moyes, Rafael Benitez and... Ian Holloway?!

Surely Holloway wouldn't be interested in managing a half arsed club who used to be famous...twat. Stay down and watch us on MOTD.
