Why is FA cup tomorrow?
Its normally at the end of the season?
-
Whatever, Come on Stoke!!!
-
UEFA have insisted on a clear two weeks at Wembley prior to the CL Final, so the FA Cup final has had to be bought forward and thus clash with a full set of Prem fixtures (including the prospect of the title being won 20 minutes before the teams come out at Wembley).
The preparations for the CL final are not that involved and I believe the motivation is to increase the importance of the CL over the FA Cup, hence the previous move to Saturday.
The FA Cup final is still the most watched football match throughout the world and UEFA are aiming to change that, sadly, the FA are helping.
-
Cheers Nev I thought it might be to do with the Champions league.
-
I have heard that the final will KO off at 5:15 from next season and will once again clash with league fixtures.
-
And they wonder why the cup has lost its lustre?
-
They'll no doubt move the final to Dubai in a few years time.
-

Because the F.A have'nt got a fucking clue.
-

Good answer. They're a joke.
-
Man City? Eventually they'll win things, so might as well get used to it.
::)
I couldn't really care.
-
Come on Man City.
-
They'll no doubt move the final to Dubai in a few years time.
They can move it to where they like. As Villa fans, it'll never affect us !!
-
Ive watched every Cup final since 1975 but to be honest I might not bother this year, I cant stand Man City and I dont like the football stoke play.
But if I had to choose ive always gone for the underdog so it has be stoke
-
I want them both to lose to be honest. Although at a push (and it is an absolute push) I'd go for Stoke to win over Man City.
-
The FA Cup final is still the most watched football match throughout the world
Is that really true? Sorry I can't believe that more people watch the English FA cup final than the Champions League Cup final.
-
I despise the football stoke play. Aside from the much criticized long throw which has contributed at least 18 goals in three years they play brutal pub football. People Like pullis and mcleish say its a results business but for the money those of us that go home and away pay it should be an entertainment business.
As for hating citeh is it not a bit hypocritical of us with the money we have spent in recent years. At least they generally try and pass it properly.
We can't surely inflict two pub teams on the Europa league next season it would just confirm stereotypes regarding our football.
-

I thought it was to do with the pitch not being played on for 2 weeks before the game not necessarily the preparations of the stadium. UEFA are claiming they want the pitch in the best possible condition for the CL Final
-
i really couldnt care two shits who wins this...
if stoke win it, its a victory for thuggish hoofball and their cretin fans will be even more unbearable...
if man city win it, then its a victory for some randomer coming in and splashing half a billion, playing boring awful football, and their fans will become unbearable...
it will be a shit game from two shit footballing sides and two shit clubs...
i hope they both lose...
-

Well of course, thats the official line, forgive me for maybe being a bit cynical but having followed football prior to the formation fo the CL and our own Premier League I can't help it.

Was that Houlliers team talk when we played citeh in the cup?

I could live with Villa playing the Stoke way if it got us success. I am burning with jealousy, as I am at this stage every season. It's time we built a team with a bit of mean and nasty thrown in.

Fuck knows, i'm guessing as usual but it certainly used to be the case and it is still held in reverence by an awful lot of fans around the world. Which is what UEFA don't like.

the World Cup final?
-
I have heard that the final will KO off at 5:15 from next season and will once again clash with league fixtures.
On the Beeb gossip column today The Mirror (I know) are saying the FA Cup final will be brought forward again next year to allow 4 clear weeks before the start of Euro 2012 - I guess so that any international players have potentially an extra week between the end of the season and the start of the Euro's. So that will be this year for Chumps league requirements, but worryingly next season for international tournament preparations. Once that precedent is set it will be the same 2 years later for the World Cup and then the FA will no doubt say 'seeing as it's every other season for international tournament preparations we may as well move it permanently'. Another bit of football's 'magic' permanently erased.
As for this year I can't think of two teams I dislike more (except Bloose obviously) - anti-football team vs mercenary-buy-silverware team, both with obnoxious fans. I'm gradually siding with Stoke purely to see Barry and Milner getting moved on as Citeh hoover up all the mid-fielders across the world before finally, inevitably winning something.

the World Cup final?
Domestic final.
-

Stoke are in Europe regardless.
-
I couldn't care less who wins but if i was to back a team to win i would wan't Stoke because they are the underdogs i can't see it being a classic match myself.
-
It would be interesting to check out if every champions league final venue in recent years has been left unused for two weeks prior to the final. Also, even allowing for the fact they wanted the FA cup final two weeks before, surely when they did the fixture list they could have thrown in two more midweek fixtures so the league ended last week and the cup final was in it's right place. The football league fitted in 46 games in a week less than the premier league scheduled 38.
-
If we played like Stoke I and many others would stop going to VP. Regardless of getting to the final they represent everything that is wrong with the technical side of our game from the grass roots upwards. If they had a slope they would kick downhill in the 2nd half!
-
Has to be Man City.
Fuck Stoke and their vile, vile football.
-
Changing of KO times
Sky fucking with the fixtures
The FA pandering to the big guns like Fergiscum et al
Players thinking they are above the law and everyone else
Chumps league being the barometer for everything
Football fans being a sound backdrop to live tv
Soundbites regarding the 39th game rearing its head (we all know they will get it one way or another)
I am actually paid to watch the game at vp - but you know i am almost done with the the whole lot of it
I am begining to really think football is a chore
-
i really couldnt care two shits who wins this...

Same as me. Apart from the torture that is watching the Villa I watch no other football
-
Man City please. Then the banner at Old Trafford (Theatre Of Dreams if you are WikiVilla) will have to come down.
-

When the UEFA Cup final was at Man City a few years (Rangers v Zenit) City had to play away from home the last two weeks of the season for the same reason.
-
Citeh for me.
Stoke attempt at football does not deserve to be rewarded. Brutual is a very good description.
Plus Man City will be getting their chips pissed on by Yanited winning the title half an hour earlier.
-
Whatever you think of Stoke, they've got there through hard work.
The Birmingham City of Manchester are there because they've won the lottery.
Stoke for me.
-
Stoke are the underdogs. Man City are a bunch of mercenary twats who have won the lottery.
Come on yew potters!
-
Man City. It would further annoy their neighbours who wanted the treble.
-
Stoke. If for no other reason that it keeps hope alive for every other club outside the elite.
In my mind, the real purveyors of anti-football are those who use sovereign wealth to completely distort an already warped and increasingly uncompetitive sport.
I personally don't know anyone who supports Stoke and I have good friends and close colleagues who support Citeh, yet I can't bring myself to want for them anything other than defeat. Five years ago, I'd have been delighted for them if they'd won a trophy. Now, I can't stomach the thought of it.
-
"Stoke. If for know other reason that it keeps hope alive for every other club outside the elite.

eeerm. Once I understood it I agree with this. Stoke. Underdog stuff, typical FA Cup. Even hope JC gets a goal if he plays.
-
Stoke for me. City are fast becoming as obnoxious as United.
-
Married to a Citeh fan and watching the game with the in laws who are all Citeh fans so it would be rude not to upset the applecart and cheer on Stoke!
A lot of Citeh fans have become somewhat arrogant since they have been able to spalsh the cash and many of them seem to take delight in reminding me I now support a 'feeder club'
Stoke to win and John Carew to score the winner!
Still wish we were there instead either of these...
-
Has to be Man City.
Fuck Stoke and their vile, vile football.
This.
-
married to a Stoke fan, my youngest is a Stoke fan, we will all be cheering on Stoke tomorrow, Screw Citeh and their attempts to buy everything
-
Stoke for me............most of my mates are stoke.
Good luck to 'em.
-
I'm actually glad I'm going to have to revise through this. I hope it's the most boring final ever and Stoke win 1-0 on penalties. I hope Barry misses his, then Milner hits the deciding penalty so far over the bar it ends up in my front garden.. In Aberystwyth.
-
TV is marketing the game as someone is going to win their first major trophy in at least 35 years.
Firstly, that still makes Newcastle jealous of both of them.
Secondly, its makes them all very jealous of us.
-
Com'on Stoke
-
I don't understand why people want Man City to win on the basis that Stoke play bad football.
In comparison, that's nothing compared to showing that the best way to win trophies is to spend spend spend. Stoke to win, please.
-
Do Man City play good football?
Or are they depressingly negative and include such fair and clean players as Patrick Viera and Nigel de Jong.
-
the least anticipated FA cup Final ever. I could not give a flying fcku
-
Less anticipated than Pompey and...Cardiff (was it?) the other year? Stoke please. Just so Mank City can't take the piss too much as 34 years of hurt keep growing.
-
Stoke I suppose
-
Stoke I suppose
Excellent way of summing up how I feel in three words. It just seems such a non-event for a whole host of reasons
-
"Man City and Stoke fans are paying up to £1000 per ticket. Expensive. Then again, if they had saved up since their last final its only 60p a week"
-
Come on Stoke
-

I'm sorry I couldn't disagree more. Football is a sport, it has a set of laws that govern how the teams can play and there is nothing in there to even suggest that entertaining Sky viewers is part of game. There is an argument for saying that Delap's throws are the first legal innovation to play that we've seen in the last 20 years.
Its a sport, winning and results is all that matters. I get my entertainment in seeing the club I support beat the others and I don't give shit about any other entertainment criteria.
-
FA Cup Final will be played early next season too. Extra rest for the players before the Euro's.
-
FA Cup Final will be played early next season too. Extra rest for the players before the Euro's.
So in other words, the FA will sacrifice the integrity of their premier competition for the sake of, at best, half a dozen footballers, who within a couple of months will be part of England's glorious quarter final defeat/humiliating group exit.
How many times have they made similar tweaks to domestic league and cup programmes to absolutely no discernible benefit of the national team?
-

Why bother? Quarter-finalist at best.

Well the fact that both of them have a chance of winning the FA Cup today I am not ashamed to admit that I am very jealous of both teams.

What was the FA cup and WC schedule like at Wembley in 1966?
-
What was the FA cup and WC schedule like at Wembley in 1966?
I know the World Cup was quite late, because I remember an interview with one of the West Ham trio and him saying that the 1966-67 league season kicked-off only 2/3 weeks after the World Cup final. (Pity we can't use that as an excuse for our relegation that season...)
Checking on Wikipedia gives the Cup Final as being played on 14th May, the World Cup running from 11th to 30th July.
-
Fuck Man City, it's Stoke all the way for me.
-
17.15 kick-off next year, still played the same week-end as Premier League matches. Disgrace. Perhaps to spite them, Villa should not even bother trying to win it next year. Like we did this year.
-
they can stick their blue moon up Delilah's arse for all I care, bollards to both of them, i'll be watching Taggart
-

His game kicks off at 12.45. Away to Blackburn.
-
17.15 kick-off next year...
I always swore that the day that the final didn't kick-off at 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, would be the day that I give up on the thing. It'll be 8pm on a Sunday evening the year after.
Presumably its because the TV rights holders think that they can command a bigger audience, but what feeble justification are the FA giving?

Need to have it the same day as the Premier League to allow England extra time to practise missing penalties ahead of Euro 2012. Premier League games to kick-off at 3pm to minimise disruption to said teams. Load of bollocks.
-
Stoke for me . They actually outclassed arse last week. and I hate that knob from C££y with a passion , whats his name , cook is it...
-

I wasn't for one minute suggesting it. The FA have already announced it will happen !

I get it. Meanwhile the people actually disrupted are those making the trip to Wembley.
I do f*cking hate modern football and the people who run it.

Officially his name is Cook but there's an H&V bylaw that you have to refer to him as "that dirty bluenose Gary Cock"

It also means all those who actually attend matches won't be able to watch, unless they get to a pub quick (not always easy if you're an away fan). Football these days is only for armchair fans.
-
Best final for a good few years for me, this is.
The first "proper" final for a long time; mostly as none of the big 4 aren't in it. Stop moaning and enjoy the football.
-

My thinking too although Man C are or soon will be accepted as one of the four.
-
I'm going for Stoke. They are part of football's fabric. I don't buy the anti-football thing. It's just a different (if not very attractive way) of going about things. Also like those oatcake things they have up there.
Not going for Man City for many reasons. From Manchester. Distorting quantities of money. Stealing our best players. Gary Cock. Platt's fat face. Noel Fecking Gallagher.
Especially Noel Fecking Gallagher.
-
Looks like a christian church band playing at wembley
-
A pet hate. The National Anthem. We all know how it goes. Stop getting fucking nobodies to warble it.
-
Clive Tyldsley (is a c**t, check out the website) keeps referring to a player called "De-Young".
Have they signed the frontman from US soft rock giants Styx, Dennis DeYoung?
-
Nice touch by Huth on little Mario. I hope he goes looking for revenge
-
Have you all seen that pigeon sitting on back of Kenwyn Jones head?
-
City are currently bossing this.

Too right. Must have happened to those attending today's 4 lunchtime kick-offs. Another kick in the balls for real football fans. Mind you if it means not having to watch Stoke it can't be all bad.
-
City are currently bossing this.
???

Don't understand,,why would you want to watch cup final if your team was playing?? In fact why watch cup final unless villa are playing

The FA show their usual competence.
Tens of thousands of flags printed for the FA Cup final had to be altered at the last minute after they were printed with the wrong teams on.
..Around 60,000 free banners were produced for the Wembley showpiece between Manchester City and Stoke City.
However, a mistake by the suppliers meant a strip at the bottom of the two-foot-three flags named the beaten semi-finalists.
City flags said they were playing Bolton, who lost to Stoke in the last four, while the Stoke flags said they were playing Manchester United, who were beaten by City last month.
Workers had to slice off the offending part of the flags using craft knives.
And FA spokesperson said: "The flags had the incorrect details printed on them despite the third party supplier being sent the correct details by the FA.
"We have since amended the flags and they will be in place to help fans enjoy what will be a memorable occasion."

the least anticipated FA cup Final ever. I could not give a flying fcku
How about Man Utd v Millwall, remember, the one where everyone wanted the roof to cave in?
-
Well we can say we lost to the eventual winners ;D
-
YES! Fuck off Stoke!
I feel sick. This City win has just proven exactly what we all feared. We are light years away from them now and it's almost pointless even trying to compete with them. Gutted, the Arab money has done it, and will continue to do it for many years to come. I love Randy, but my God, why have we got the poorest billionaire in the World??
-

More I think we surrendered to the eventual winners.

United win the title and city win the fa cup, I need to move!

There's always someone has to put the lid on his head

The alternative was a win for those pin up boys for cynical gamesmanship and hoofball Stoke City. It was a lose lose situation all round.
-
United win the title and city win the fa cup, I need to move!
Move to Birmingham, nobody has won anything there this season......oh..........
-
Stoke performed a bit like we did at Wembley last year. Not really able to do what was necessary.
-
United win the title and city win the fa cup, I need to move!
At least the Blues won the :o.............................I'll get me coat.
-
Ah well hope for hong kong sevens
-
Horrible final. Probably the worst I've ever watched as a neutral. I switched off immediately, at the final whistle.
-
2000 is still the most boring final i can remember
-
I'm really pleased for the Man City supporters I know, who over the years put up with much more than we ever have.
-
Man City deserved to win it. I can't remember Joe Hart having too much to do. Stoke are a poor excuse for football. I wonder too if Tony Pulis has taken them as far as he can and might look for a fresh challenge.
-

I have to agree with that generally a good group of fans
-

NO!
-
So here we go, Manchester is officially the football capital of the world.
Interesting observation from the reporter at the end of his report on the local BBC news bulletin. Has a city ever enjoyed a more successful footballing day?
Well, mate, a whole city perhaps hasn't, but there's still only one club to land both the Cup and the Championship on the same day, so f*ck off!
-

im glad stoke didnt win...
man city were always going to buy a trophy sooner or later, but stokes awful thuggish excuse for football did not deserve to win a trophy...
already had one shithouse thuggish scumbag boring club win a trophy this season...
-
Once again Micah Richards uses the f word on live tv in an aftermatch interview- what a tosser!
I wonder if the fa will charge him in the way they did Rooney?
-
Deep pockets 1 0 Shallow pockets. No surprises really
Suppose they'll spend another £200 mill in the summer.
-
I'm really pleased for the Man City supporters I know, who over the years put up with much more than we ever have.
Same here. I know quite a few, all of whom have stuck with their team through donkeys years of nothing but dross while Fergie and co have rubbed their noses in it year after year. Even today Utd go and win the bleeding league!
-
Who remembers Miles Barter's WM programme, when the audience would listen to his tales of ever-increasing City ineptitude? I got a text from him this evening. In true genuine City supporter style he had to buy two tickets because the first was a forgery.
-
Don't mind Man City. They're a much more tolerable bunch than Chelsea.
-
Hate em. Really detest City, mainly due to almost never seeming to beat them when I first started watching, but latterly with this whole money thing and this stupid turning their back celebration. They are like Newcastle are in the press in terms of bestest fans in the world, and have thrown silly money at it. Half a billion for the FA Cup. Cool. If I were their owners with the amount of points United have won the league with, I would be asking serious questions about mis management of my sizeable investment.
-
I really had to post this before I go to to see us play much better and lose at the home of silent support.
It must be the most contrived link of this or any season. As the teams walked onto the Wembley pitch Clive Tyldesley said Tony Pulis spent his boyhood looking at television to see football's blue riband now here he is trying to make sure in two hours time there are no blue ribbons on the FA cup.
That sentence had the same effect on me as being a passenger in Bad English's car on a hairpin bend in the Pyrenees.
