This has been a completely unacceptable season and the players need to understand the depth of the supporter's displeasure. To this end I propose to mark the embarrassing end of season lap of (dis)honour by doing one of three things, I've yet to decide which.
1. Stand arms folded as they pass before me
2. Moon at them
3. Give it the old thumb on the end of the nose and waggly fingers.
How will you respond to the players as they mince around the perimeter of the pitch soft hand clapping you for paying their massive wages despite sullying the club on a weekly basis since the 0-6 at Newcastle back in August?
-
Whats the point of protesting against a bunch of players half of whom wont be there next season ?

to give them the send off they so richly deserve

I doubt I'll even have the stomach to stay after the final whistle. I paid money to watch football this season and will do no more nor less. In the same vein they are paid to play for Aston Villa and have similarly failed to go beyond the basic calling, although describing some of what they offered up this season as 'football' is an insult to the sport.
-
Our young players have given their all this season and probably by being pitched into desperation games much too early in their careers and I would single out Herd in this instance, have had their career prospects severely damaged. For their sakes I shall applaud with sincerity. It is the senior players on huge wages who have failed to rise above the problems inflicted on us by O'Neill's malevolence, the appointment of the wrong man at the wrong time as the new manager, the incompetence of Gary McAllister, a very bad run of injuries, the recurrence of Houllier's heart problems and the winding up of a bad season with nobody competent at the helm.
The old pros in our squad have all experienced this kind of situation before and should have known how to handle it but they chose to drink, eat, fall out and idle. I shall not applaud them but I will applaud the youngsters without whose efforts we would have been in worse trouble than we are.
-
I am going to protest by effecting a thousand yard stare, arms folded towards the Expressway
At some point I will turn to the bloke next to me and we'll exchange one of of those looks we've given each other a lot this season - one of speechless despair
-
I'll have fucked off to the pub by the time they start their ludicrous 'lap of honour.'
They should be too embarrased to bother.
If it's doing a lap to thank the fans - Don't bother.
They don't really give a shit and I certainly don't give a shit about most the players.
-
Think I will shake my fist vigorously, in the 'Why, I oughta...' style.
-
I'm not doing anything that makes me stay at Villa Park longer than I have to; final whistle and straight to the pub. Then when I get home a long shower to wash this atrocity of a season away.
-
It could well be the worst turn out for a lap of honour ever and it's a bit pointless really. At least GT had the balls and diginity to apologise after his poor season, and then went on and did the right thing by resigning. Let's hope GH has the same idea.
-
Can't wait to turn my back on this season. I'll be off on the final whistle. Unless were gettin hammered then I think I'll be off before

Damned if they do it, damned if they don't.
-
I have a feeling that I'll have departed long before the final whistle. The most wretched season I can remember.
-
Within 2 minutes of the final whistle the stands should be deserted.
Shown the fucking wastrels the same disdain they have shown us this season.
-
I shall just give them a clap because they are representing my club Aston Villa although they have been poor this season i will never turn on my club while they wear the claret and blue shirt i am duty bound to clap them even if some are shite.

Sort of like SirGTII, although it has a 'Dr Jo' feel about it as well (from what I can remember).

Just remember while you're applauding, most of the recipients of your adulation will be laughing their bollocks off, having earned a fortune for failing so miserably.

Spot on.
Everybody should pile out at the final whistle.
How anybody would want to stay to appluad those sad sacks of shit, is beyond me.
-
A lap of "honour" would be inappropriate and embarrassing.
-
Anyone fancy joining me in this?
Just ADVILLAFAN then...
-
I know it's suppossed to be about mutual appreciation between players and fans but let's be honest, it's a terrible idea and always has been.
Having a 'lap of honour' should be reserved for either winning things or greatly overachieving.
Just having them at the end of each season is pointless and asking for trouble and embarressment (as this year will prove).
Get rid of them until it's been earned.
-
As Brian said, some of the young players have given their all so a protest seems a bit unfair on them. Hopefully we've now got 3 months to sort things out and whether GH comes back or not, a lot of the slackers will be moved on. This season has been a disaster from the outset and considering we've had a manager walk out, a caretaker manager who didn't work out, a ridiculous injury list, and the hospitalisation of GH to deal with, then really i'm just pleased we've survived
-

I have already renamed it as a 'Lapathy'.
-
Maybe we should all give up for the last 10 minutes and slowly shuffle around like the feckers on the pitch for about half of the season..........
-
It will be embarrassing if they did anything resembling a lap of honour of even an thank you walk. They have under performed to a man and I would more impressed if they returned 50% of their pay to the Club. Probably the only home match this season where I will leave early ...oh unless I am waiting miserably for an equaliser that will avoid another home defeat.
-
How about when they 1st come out of the tunnel turn your back on them, let them know that this season is not acceptable, but then also at some point, right at the final whistle or something, belt out Villa til i die.
-
Another vote for walking out at the final whistle.
-
Make every single one of them walk around the pitch individually, so we can praise the likes of Downing, Clark, Bent and Albrighton, and then give Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Beye, etc. both barrels.

heh! I like it.
-
mass exodus 5 minutes before full time would send a message to the board
-
I have stayed back every season I have been going but this is the first one where I am off at the final whistle. Those overpaid bunch of tossers don't deserve anything.
-
I'm going to fart in their general direction
-
I think that we should stage a mass salsa dance to let them know what they are up against.
-
Supporters in England dont hold enough power I saw this documentary about Lazio fans a while back and they went to the training ground to talk to the players about playing better for the team and then when they didnt get it in one of the matches they all left the terrace for 15 minutes of a match to show their anger. Later on the board had to sign Di Canio to keep the fans happy only if it was more like that here in England.

Absolute quality post. Genius

I'm with this man (other than the fact that I have no fucking intention of wasting my afternoon being there at all). If I was however.....
....then I would desert them, a la francais stylee!
And talking of the uninspiring French fucker - surrender has never been more prominent in the English Home Land than the pathetic performances we've had to endure down Villa Park that he's "managed" to concoct this season. There is only one reason a squad of marginally above average players have turned into completely incompetent fools - BAD MANAGEMENT!
AND to add insult to injury - we get the only Scottish manager out of 9 in the Premiership who hasn't got a fucking clue - brilliant leadership Mr Faulkner.
The management of this club can all stuff off if they think they're getting another pound of my hard earned until they make like they know what they are doing!
Good night.
-

That is a very good suggestion.
-
I'll be departing on the final whistle.
-
A mass Salsa-dancing protest..... Oh yes please, that's got to be the way!! Let's have a practice protest at Arsenal next week - it'll take our attention away from the probable drubbing we'll be getting.
-
"Let's pretend we've scored a goal!"
-
-
I think most will base their reaction on the score and performance that day.
-
A protest to the board suggests they don't see what we see, and feel what we feel about this season. I think they do and are itching to for the season to end as much if not more than we are.
-
"Let's pretend we've scored a goal!"
Classic

I kind of get the impression the Board know exactly how we feel and have planned to change things and am sure they wouldn't bother much about some mamby pamby half hearted demonstration by a load of flag or board waving idiots.
Unlike the previous owner who also thought it funny, and didn't do anything to change his stance, I'm sure the present owner has analysed the problem as expertly as they can and will provide a solution, hopefully the right solution.
But even then, with football not being the exact science some fans seem to dream it is, who knows any new solution will work.
We are not financed like Man City or Chelsea, we do not pay the price of season tickets at other top sides, and we can't see our ground out once let alone all season, that's fact.
So rather than go on a demo, buy Randy out and take control yourself, I'd enjoy seeing how well you'd do.
Yes its been an atrocious season, yes things do need to change, but some lame demo will solve nothing other than convince the waiting public what total twats you are, and at this moment in time when our credibility is probably the lowest of any of the West Midlands clubs its the last thing we need.

Malcolm, read the thread a little more carefully. It's not to be taken seriously.
-
I'll protest by going home at the final whistle.
In fact, what we should do is just leave in droves, when they come out for the lap of 'honour'.

They should do a lap of dishonour. Shameful season.
-
Maybe they should join us on a mournful trudge up to the Bartons, and see if they've got enough loose change to get a round in?
