Title: Easter Monday 30 years ago
Post by: DeKuip on April 25, 2011, 07:42:32 PM
A good 10,000 of us saw a 1-1 draw at Stoke with Peter Withe scoring - while Ipswich lost the Old Farm derby v Norwich.
Two games to go and top of the league.
Happy days.

Hi there DK

I remember this well as we had two car loads picked up from Hagley, Stourbridge and Wombourne. There were Villa all over the stadium and the side we were on had a very agreeable bar ;-) My chums from the Witton Warriors were held up on the motrway and we puzzled the locals by charging into them good naturedley just before kick-off (the proper one).

The locals were not as friendly as they are now (apparently) and there was some fisticuffs as we mingled but no great problems.

Remember singing "win the league, wiiiiiiin the league" over and over and starting to believe...

My favourite memory from this game was Jimmy Rimmer having a joke with the Villa fans behind the goal, then seconds later pulling off a world class save.
