Villa's reserves are back in action this evening with a clash against Bolton Wanderers at Lancashire FA's County Ground [ko 7pm].

Kevin MacDonald is expected to field a youthful side with a number of players currently out on loan and on international duty.

Three consecutive defeats have seen Villa slip to fourth in the Southern Group, although the claret and blues still have a chance of finishing in top spot.

The second string currently sit eight points behind leaders Arsenal but have two games in hand on the Gunners.

It is a similar situation for the Trotters, who are bottom in Northern Group A but only six points separate them and first placed Manchester City.

Despite a poor start to the Barclays Premier Reserve League campaign, Bolton have fought back and have lost once in their last six games.

The Lancashire outfit earned a 2-1 win at Wolves in their last outing thanks to second-half goals from Tope Obadeyi and Maison McGeechan.

Villa were left stunned by Everton at Hinckley a fortnight ago. Spanish teenager Juan Serrano's debut strike cancelled out the opener from Apostolos Vellios but the Toffees scored dramatic stoppage time winner through Magaye Gueye.

VILLA: Siegrist, Herd, Deeney, Johnson, Devine, Beye, Berry, Forrester, Taylor, Warnock, Darkin. Subs: Nelson-Addy, Barrett, Juan Serrano, Cameron, Donacien.

Your thread title confused me ... I thought we were in some sort of cup competition again.

If we are in the Southern group and Bolton are in the Northern group, why are we playing each other?

Is that really O'Halloran (ex Villa player) or is it a coincidence?

No, different player, our Stephen O'Halloran is at Coventry now.

I don't think I've mentioned it but... I sat next to Stephen O'Hallaran at a game this year. Either Burnley or Blackburn in the League Cup.

I knew you'd be impressed. I was quite impressed with his missus (even if she is orange).
