From The Independent (http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/hendrie-happy-plying-his-trade-at-the-bottom-of-indonesias-illegal-league-2252318.html):
Lee Hendrie could have been looking forward to playing at Wembley this season, a last hurrah in the sun for a player whose potential was never quite fulfilled. Instead the former Aston Villa midfielder is playing for the bottom-placed club in an illegal league thousands of miles away, in Indonesia. Few well-known Englishmen play abroad, and those that do, like David Beckham and Robbie Fowler, tend to go to places they would be happy to visit on holiday. Hendrie, however, has boldly gone where no English player has gone before.

An interesting read
cheers Legion
-
the travelling will kill him.
6 months max before he is back up broad street chasing 18 yr old girls about.
-
He's 34 in a couple of months, you know you are old when players you remember as promising youngsters are in the twilight of their career or retiring.
I still remember when we thought he was the future of the club and the stick Brian got for not playing him sooner. Wasn't it him who had the "Players who will get a game for the Villa before he does" thing in H&V?
-
I'll be in Bandung in April. No home game while I'm there unfortunately though.
-
Good luck to him.
-
The words Lee Hendrie & role model in the same sentence, fuck me, I've seen it all now.
-
His autobiog will be a good read when he does it after the money runs out.
Good luck Lee.
-
Unusual move for Yung Lee henry

They were never that old!

Doesn't sound like a bad deal at all with that kind of money taking into consideration the low cost of living. What would he make for Mansfield and how much would he have to pay in living expenses in England?
-
He'll come back with a great tan but saying that he always had a great tan, even in January.
-
There's the "unfulfilled potential" line again... getting a bit boring that one. He played for a big Premiership Team. Maybe not for as long as he wanted, but what percentage of professional players can say that? Not many. He may well be an over-achiever for all we know.
At least he's trying something different - I hope it goes well.
-
What a wasted talent he should have knuckled down and fulfilled his potential instead of thinking he made it and turning into billy big bo***cks.

Jammy bastard if you ask me, Indonesia is a great country to be when they dont have earthquakes (sysmic or political).
Really genuine friendly people, fantastic food and dirt cheap prices.
It's a few years ago but I remember going to a match there, Yogyakarta v Semerang. A big open stadium which held about 25,000 and was probably a quarter full. Met a couple of other english lads there and we had great fun on the terraces with the local fans teaching them football songs. As it wasnt too crowded and very humid, most the time we sat down on the terrace smoking clove cigarettes and buying fruit and chicken fried rice off the vendors that mingle amongst you.
I would say the football seemed about conference standard, the 2nd half just turned into a complete farce though when the afternoon monsoon arrived and they tried to keep playing.

Gulp. I remember being eight in 1994 and thinking he was just a few years older than me!! I'm 25 this year by which stage his villa career was petering out. Such a waste. He was always 'promising, young Lee Hendrie' but it never quite happened.
