Aston Villa striker Darren Bent insists manager Gerard Houllier still has the full backing of the club's players.
Villa find themselves looking over at the relegation trap door once again after suffering a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Wolves on Saturday.
The defeat means Houllier's troops are now just one point clear of third-from bottom Wolves, further intensifying the pressure on their Frenchman.
A number of Villa fans are unhappy with the former Liverpool boss at the helm and have called for his departure, but Bent insists the club's squad still have his back.
"We all believe in the manager and we're still fighting for him," said Bent. "There's no reason why we can't get out of it."

With the drop zone breathing down our necks

I don't believe one word of it.
-
i would hate to see them if they didnt believe in houllier!
-
I believe in mircales, baby,
I belive in yooooo
-
Bent stick to doing what you do best
-
He's probably been asked about it?
What's he going to say? No actually we hate the ******? Course he's not goin to say that!
Also Bent was Houllier's signing, he must have said something to bring him here
-
I believe in a thing called love.
I'll also be rocking until the sun goes down (well, till about 7.30)
-
Bent stick to doing what you do best
Exactly
I'm sick of hearing player quotes about being behind, the manager, all the team is united blah blah blah
Just play football like you look remotely interested is all they need to do
-
Ironic Bent saying it, he didn't look the slightest bit interested on Saturday.
-
I believe in miracles, since you came along, you sexy thing.

I believe in mircales, baby,
I belive in yooooo
Can't beat the Jackson Sisters to lift the mood. Nice one, Chico.
-
Blah, blah fucking blah. Dont tell me, show me.
-
I often think that the fact players feel they have to come out and say such things suggests that they are actually not !! If there was not an issue surely it wouldn't need to be commented on ?
-
On Sunday some of you were using the idea that none of the players had spoken out backing the manager as proof that he had lost the changing room. Now that one of them does they won't accept it.

Mr Withe has got that just about right
-
The players performance on Saturday showed me that they don't want to play for him.
I can take losing, but not losing without any effort put in.
-
As Sydney Youngblood once sang
Believe me, Believe me
If only I could
I'd kick Gerard up the arse
-
First time I can recall any of our players backing him this season. Scrap that, it's the first time I can recall any of our players saying anything remotely positive about him.
Charm offensive? We'll soon see, I guess.
-
No doubt some players said they believed in Billy McNeill with 8 games to go in 1986/7.
-
I believe I can fly! I believe I can touch the sky! I dont believe we'll be playing premier legue football next season though. I dont believe i'll renew my season ticket should this come to pass.

And if you believe that a footballer rent a quote means that we haven't got a divided dressing room then you really have lost the plot.
-
No one really dislikes him they just don't understand what the fuck he's going on about and think he and GMac are completely bonkers, lots of head scratching going on in the Villa dressing room
-
I don't believe in him. I am beginning to hate what he is doing to our club.

That's a bit harsh dragging him into it

I don't claim to know what goes on in the dressing room, I don't claim to be an expert in body language and I don't claim to be able to tell when a player is being genuine or is lying through his teeth from a 2 line quote on the Internet.
It appears that in those respects I am in a minority on this site lately.

Jesus.....Sydney Youngblood by eck how did you remember that!

Well if it's true they will have to prove it at Everton and after that again and again. I hope it is true.
We just got to stay up and Randy has seriously got to look at what is going on in May. From the fans point of view even Houllier must admit that it does not look rosey.
-
If I were Randy Lerner I wouldn't sell any players if we go down and make them work for promotion for punishment. So if they lose their place in national team so be it.
-
I would quite like it if not one single Villa player spoke to a media outlet between now and taking the field against Everton, at which point they'll show us all their undying love for the boss/the club/the shirt/the fans by giving Everton the mother of all thrashings.
In the real world, we'll get all the usual platitudes and a 2-0 defeat.

Sorry Chris, I'm sure that sort of thing for a down well at St Gullibles, but the blind faith defence doesn't wash with me.

Some amazing quoting in this thread.
-
Never mind playing for the manager etc,..
How about the people who pay to watch a performance like last Saturday.......
Pride in your own performance maybe ?
Would be heartening to know that we had players who were fully committed
to the club, but those days are long gone and almost forgotten
Just have a half decent mini season of 8 matches with 3 wins and a draw, is
that too much to ask (for some of our players I fear it might be)
-
Morrissey, you should stick to posting about shit because you're making little sense here.
I don't have much faith in the way things are going, blind or otherwise. But I'm not going to just fall in behind claims based on feelings and supposition.

.
Now, now calm down.
All of this is about feelings and supposition. It's a forum to discuss shit, if you like. happening at our club. When a team is going down rhe pan, a player is always trotted out to show his support. It's tedious and tiresome and i dont believe it.

To be fair , If someone asks him the question , hes only answering it ... If he said fook off , we would be calling him a c**t ;-)

I'll tell you who pisses me off: fucking Cher.
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't thinl you're strong enough
Which is fair enough I suppose and she is entitled to her belief.
But why is she smirking when she sings it?
And what is the something inside her?
It's fucked up.
-
Stop talking about it and do it on the pitch.

Player backs manager, meaningless

I dunno.
But it's definitely not Labi Siffri.
-
yes I've still got one. And then I tried it on the piano, the recorder and the guitar.
Still worked.
Although the piano's a bit out of tune.
And the recorder is a bit dried out.
The (acoustic) guitar - don't get me started. :'(
-
I still say we will get out of ths mess i hope the staff and players are all pulling in the same direction that will make our job a lot easier.
-
He backs Houllier but doesn't like playing up front on his own. Hmm.
-
Interesting Bent quote on the formation
"He wants us to play this way and we've got to get on with it and adapt to it."
-
jeepers, that sounds a bit Bassett-England manager for my liking.
-
I think at this stage, it would be wise to let the players play in a formation that they're more comfortable with.
-
But Bent knows the Villa players have to come to terms with Houllier's ideas and philosophies, and said: "It was difficult against Wolves, especially against those two (Berra and Stearman) as centre-halves. But, at the same time, the manager wants the system and, as professionals and players we've got to respect that."
He added: "If he wants to play one up front, then that's fair enough.
"As you said, the fans wanted to see 4-4-2 but this 4-5-1 seems like quite a common formation now. We have to try to make the system work.
"It's always difficult when you're the only striker trying to compete in the air against two centre halves but the main thing is the manager is not going to change it.
"He wants us to play this way and we've got to get on with it and adapt to it."
Hmmmmmm.
-
Maybe the board should call a meeting with the players only and really find out whats going on
-
As soon as the board do that, the manager is finished.
-
He was purchased by Le Gaffuer for £18 - £24 mill., so he isn't going to dislike him is he - or at least not show it.
