Another hypothetical thread. Predict the manager at the start of the season, the starting XI, the subs bench and the rest of the squad.
-
New Keeper.
New Defence.
New Midfield.
Missed something...
New Captain!
-
Manager...
Gerard Houllier.
-
Oh I forgot something....
If we stay up... 23k season tickets sold.
If we go down.. 15k season tickets sold.
-

This raises a good point, what sort of attendances can we expect in the championship?

A fella called Vernon has just been on Talksport talking about Villa. Does he come on the forum because he spoke alot of sense?

He tries his hardest to get on every radio phone in show going.
What did he say?
-
Houllier. Although if Hiddink is looking for a gig...
Handanovic
Walker
Mexes
Spahic
Taiwo
Albrighton
Makoun
Moussa Sissoko
Adam
Downing
Bent
Westwood
Cuellar
Clark
Delph
Jarvis
Sturridge
Agbonlahor
Guzan
Lichaj
Baker
Lowry
Carruthers
Bannan
Delfouneso
Weimann
Herd
Hogg
Johnson
Gardner
Williams
Just off the top of my head.
Just because some are on the bench doesnt mean they wouldn't be serious contenders for a starting spot and Houllier rotates anyway.

I suppose that depends if were tearing teams new ones week in week out.The novelty factor will keep them ok initially. If we continue to be shit then they wil drop and drop as the season goes on I guess
-
Crikey Maz, that's some shopping/wish list, at least it looks like you got rid of the dead(crap)woods
Good luck though,so long as we survive
-
Manager: Claudio Ranieri
Players out: Young, Collins, Dunne, Friedel, Pires, Petrov.
Players in: None.
-
Manager unchanged, a new defence and keeper, a replacement for Young and Reo Coker.
Whether we're 5th or 15th a lot of moaning on here with people still banging on about four, four fucking two.
-
And Downing , with his pink boots, can go too for my liking.
he's no bottle for the fight...to say he's been our best player is damning praise for sure.
Apologies to Chris Smith
-

And Downing , with his pink boots, can go too for my liking
Can you edit that one please as it looks like it is from me and I couldn't give a fuck what colour his boots are and I want us to keep him as he's been our best player this season.
-
Manager unchanged ??!!
FFS get real

Absolutely !! I just don't get this Downing bashing. He's been our best most consistant player and one of the ones that actually gives a shit
-

Asst Manager II: Pires

Some posters should get a reality check, Houllier is here for the next three years at least even if we are relegated, and hanging banners and shouting abuse at him will not alter Randys position. There will be a mass clearout in the summer we can easily predict those leaving my prediction for what it's worth is about eight will be gone, who will be coming in if we stay up ( which i'm still sure we will) will depend on how persuasive Houllier can be, he has the contacts.
-
I think we will stay up fingers crossed and GH hotlips is here to stay for the time being.
-
That mass clearout will include tens of thousands of villa fans deserting B6 if houllier and his muppet stay
-
No it won't, if he was to bring in a few quality players the fans will turn up, your dislike of the man is clouding your judgement.
-
Robbo, were you there on Saturday ?
-
That mass clearout will include tens of thousands of villa fans deserting B6 if houllier and his muppet stay
Bollocks will it. Some no doubt, but not tens of thousands you soft sod.
Will you be one who stops going?
-
That mass clearout will include tens of thousands of villa fans deserting B6 if houllier and his muppet stay
So you think we will see mid 80s type attendances?
-
That mass clearout will include tens of thousands of villa fans deserting B6 if houllier and his muppet stay
Will it shite. I agree with the general feeling towards Houllier at the moment, but there isn't half some hysterical nonsense being spouted.
-
If Houllier doesn't get the bullet this week, he'll probably be here next season.
However, if he does go, then my money would be on Moyes being our manager next season.
He's looking like he can't really do much more at Everton than he already has, and as if things have gone a little stale for him there.
-
Didn't the Geordies attendances drop from several hundred thousand every game to a much lower figure?
-

Not that low, mid 20's
-

They dropped but they were still high

Agreed, I thought he was one of the better players sat as well
-
If we have a new manager they will hold up OK. Keep Le Gaffeur and they will tumble.
-

43,000
Whilst our support is poor compared to theirs, to suggest we'd lose "tens of thousands" sounds a bit hysterical.
-
blimey ,
the manager the same with hopefully a new defense coch in there eg Laursen.
players out
Young both
Dunne
Warnock
Beye
Carew
Ireland
Heskey
players in , leave it to Houlier , GK , CB ,RB, LB , DM , striker /att midf
-
Manager unchanged ??!!
FFS get real
This thread is to predict what the manager and line-up will be next season if we stay up. Chris thinks that if we stay up we won't change the manager, and I agree with him
This isn't to say I don't want a new manager, but that's not what this thread is about.
-
Prediction rather than wishlist
Manager: Houllier
Starting 11: Given, Walker, Taiwo, Spahic, Clark, Makoun, Delph, Bradley, Albrighton, Downing, Bent
Subs: Siegrist, Lichaj, Baker, Bannan, Fofana, Heskey, Agbonlahor
Squad: Parish, Herd, Lowry, Hogg, Pires, Delfouneso, Weimann
Out: Friedel, L Young, Warnock, Dunne, A Young, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Cuellar, Salifou, Collins, Ireland, Guzan, Osbourne
-
Apparently Taiwo has already signed for Benfica.
-
I know a fair few people don't like the director of football idea but I think this strategy could be the easiest way out of this mess and also provide a long term philosophy for the future.
Unfortunately I don't think we could afford moyes AND Houllier though even with Houllier taking a pay cut.
-
its going to be the summer of the long knives if GH survives and we stay up. At the moment his hands are tied but i reckon 6/7 senior players will be gone. They know it as well.....
-
I suspect that this is an extremely pointless thread. More realistic would be predict the changes when we do go down. Even the BBC now agree that we not too big to go down after all.
-
Well if the BBC say we're going down, then that's it.
We might as well concede the points now eh?
-
bottom line is wolves is about as bad as it can get. Utterly gutless and clueless performance against a team who weren't much cop themselves. IF we play like that again then i'll probably side with the GH out lot and start coming out with various non-entities in the management world in the hope they can do something, anything, to save us. but at the moment i'm going to cling on to the faint hope GH has some motiviational skills under that early onset senile dementia facade, and that a few players have an ounce of pride and professionalism left.

They dropped but they were still high
Looks like they had an average of 43,388 last season, just over 5K down on the previous year.
-

Not that low, mid 20's
Regardless of what division we're in we might see a few sub 30K gates, especially if we aren't setting the world on fire but I doubt they'd drop to mid 20's.
As for getting back on topic of the thread, I have no idea what we'll do whether we drop or stay up regarding manager, never mind playing squad.
-

Nah aslong as we stay in the Premier League I doubt any of the attendances would drop below 30K.
They're gonna have to reduce season ticket and match prices mind.

I'd rather post and/or read something positive than all the hyperbolic negative crap currently doing the rounds. Why shouldn't we stay up? Believe.

All the hand wriinging going on at the moment - if you cut through all the anguish we're all feeling at themoment, this is as close to the future situation as we're likely to get. Houllier will only go if he decides to go.
-

If you're so certain of that (grim) reality ROBBO, I'll gladly take that wager. Name your price.

Where ever we are next season I want a manager who is proud to be the manager and be associated with the club.
-

And while that would be great, my main priority would be someone who was actually a good manager.

That too of course.

I think we will stay up, just about and GH will be given a chance to do it his way. If we aren't in the top 8 by Christmas I'd expect him to go.

I think that's probably right. He will be given the managerial equivalent of a " full pre-season" to show that he can make a difference with his own players. I can't say that I am confident but expect him to at least be given the opportunity.

I actually agree with this also.
-
I'm assuming we will go down with this first line up.
Westwood
Lichaj
Collins
Baker
New LB - Good knows
New RW
Hogg
Bannan
New LW
Weimann
Delfouneso or maybe Agbonlahor
Subs:
Siegrist
Lowry
New CB
New DM
Delfouneso if Gabby stays
Gardner
Herd
Manager: Di Matteo
If we stay up...
Given
Hutton
New CB - Sphaic?
Clark
New LB - Or is Sphaic here with another CB?
Albrighton
Makoun
Bradley
Delph
Downing
Bent
Subs:
Westwood
New CB
Lichaj
Bannan
Bradley
New Striker
New Winger - Lee from Bolton
Manager: Houllier
-
I'll go for.......
Westwood
Walker
Samba
Cuellar
Taiwo
Albrighton
Makoun
Downing
Jarvis
Bent
Gabby
Subs
Guzan
Collins
Clark
Bannan
Petrov
Rodallega
Tuncay
Manager- Moyes.
Walker on another season long loan, Westwood and Taiwo in on frees, Downing as a central midfield (I quite like him centrally, he did o.k there against Man. City) and a far fetched option of Rodallega and Tuncay as our back up strikers. Samba in for 7m aswell with Blackburn relegated.
Jarvis

My fellow Foresters said it best.............
However, they also said..................
-
My head says we are up the proverbial creek but my heart says Ged will mastermind an incredible last day victory against his true loverpool with Gabby nodding an Albrighton cross in from close range to keep us up.
UTV
-
The only positive that I can think of is that there are 6 teams below us and only three relegation spots up for grabs.
Would you rather swap positions with any of those teams?
How's that for looking for positives??!
-

It's quite possible they'll have nothing to play for come this game (6th secured and anything higher impossible) so that may be a saving grace for us!
-
Arsenal may have nothing to play for either...
-
I wonder if our slump will effect Bradley's chances of staying,as i doubt GH will throw him in now,he was probably hoping to play him in a couple of mid table games.

He can fuck off back to Germany for all I care.

There will be no one watching us in Championship ...why because we are NOT going to be playing in it. Not next season not ever.

Not a gambler Kevin especially on anything Villa related. I just simply believe Houllier was appointed to clear out the rubbish and reduce the wage bill as well as instilling a new philosophy at the club. It was never going to be easy and with all the injuries we've had made it doubley so. Any other appointment at this time would be knee jerk and that's the last thing we need.
-
Fair enough.
It wouldn't surprise me if he remained until the end of the season, it wouldn't even surprise me if -should we stay up- he starts the season with us and is given at least the first chunk of next season to help his own players bed in.
By all accounts RL and co are sold on his waffle and do actually like him. He's more accessible than the last bloke (not Kev Mac, the bloke taking us to court) and is very good at telling them what they want to hear. And generally talking a good game.
Three years is a tad ambitious though. I can't see him getting anywhere near that long.
Lets call it a sportsman's bet ;)
-
i think houllier will be here next season as well. he has a track record of developing youth with his work in france and the only bright spark at villa is our youth set-up.
we need a long-term manager to bring through the youngsters and develop a team. i'm trying to think of a better candidate to do that than houllier, but i can't.
and after 4 years of MON (who was pretty popular with the players, if not some of us) any incoming manager was always going to put a few noses out of joint.
-

Think that is a fair and rational assesment .......
-
Of all the teams in the bottom half, we have by far the best side. I believe that in our next 6 games, they will prove it and get the pts to put us in mid-table safety.
Then the fun and games can start.
Let him get the ones out who dont want to play and get his own in, who will fit in with what he wants to do, and how he wants to play.
Then we shall see a big difference, and thats when i will judge him. If then, we are still struggling, then it will be best for all concerned if he leaves, but im still prepared to back him. WE WONT GO DOWN !!!!!!!

Totally agree. If, and it is an obvious if, GH can get us a few wins in the next 6 games, I would like to see how he goes next season. I have a feeling he will make good use of young players and buy better than we have known in recent season.
The shit season we have had, he has had. And while many will clain its all his fault, its just not that simple. He has made mistakes but he is trying to change things, long term, for the better. If he can get us through this season staying up I would want him to have next season to see if he can still be the manager his cv suggests.
-
We played poorly vs wolves and lost - worrying
We played well vs Bolton and lost - very worrying
All these we won't go down comments ? Do not bury your heads in the sand, positive mental attitude yes, but this seasons stats are appalling and suggest we will rely on others to keep us up at best
-
Totally agree. If, and it is an obvious if, GH can get us a few wins in the next 6 games,
------------------------------------------------
Love the optimism
He has only won a few games all season, 5 league wins in 25 i think, so now all of a sudden we are going to start winning?
Is that because all the players are united and he knows what formation to play?
based on what exactly????
