As we stare into the abyss, its sometimes hard to stay positive about our beloved club.
Perhaps we almost revel in coming on here and talking about how bad we are and how much worse its going to get.
Emotions swinging from anger in varying degrees at anybody vaguely associated with AVFC to fighting calls for unity, then breaking out into a cold sweat and helplessly blarting onto your keyboard.
Well its a lovely sunny morning in Brum and there must be some positives on the horizon.
For starters, we have no more games in March.
-
Maybe Houllier will fuck off in The Summer, or even better, in the next two weeks.
There, I feel better already.
-
We're not small heath alliance and everything associated with them.
-
I had a great weekend.
Okay so that's not going to cheer you lot up but hey!
-
Chris Herd a good game at centre-half, despite playing out of position. And looks a great prospect for the future.
-
Had a great dream about Keira knightley- who needs football ?
-
On the plus side, I managed to get to work this morning without shitting myself. And given the state of my bowels today, that is a real bonus.
-
it's my birthday
Hang on 42, oh fucking hell....
-
1 We're not Coventry
2 We don't have to play football in Coventry
3 We're not Coventry
I could go on.....

There are no reasons to be cheerful. Paradoxically if we can accept that, that is a reason for seeing better times ahead. Why should that be so? Because we are facing up to reality.
A bright future for Aston Villa cannot be built on on the pretext that we can play pretty triangles on the edge of our penalty box. Only two or three teams in europe can do that successfully and we are not one of them. We do not have the experience or the confidence or the coaching to do it.
We have to build a future based on fitness, team spirit, leadership, good coaching, defending and attacking from set pieces and doing all the simple things well.
There is nothing to be cheerful about because every one of those necessities for a successful Villa side is not there.
The single most important thing Graham Taylor ever said at Villa Park was "forget what you used to be like, this is what you are like now."
-
Chris Herd a good game at centre-half, despite playing out of position. And looks a great prospect for the future.
He blocked one cross that looked like a certain goal in the making.
OK, at times he and NRC may have looked like they'd never met before when it came to passing but overall I was very impressed with Herd
-
I thought Herd did well the only thing that worried me slightly about him was him dwelling on the ball too long at times that a decent team would have punished.
having said that at least he showed some spirit and fight
-
It would be a good omen if Herd made the grade for us. Neat to have a player mentioned in our anthem. "...when all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw Yippee Ai Ay etc etc."
-
Our luck has got to change sooner or later.
-
Nothing to do with luck more to do with sheer guts and determination, which seems sadly lacking.
-
Oh how ' Misery loves company ' .....we will survive , I have no doubts at all , by the end of May this preposterous Season will be buried in the Graveyard of al our other painful memories . The summer will see a number of " Goodbyes" including a few " good riddances " , there will be some new faces to give hope and sustainance to our dreams . August will see us , as ever , champing at the bit to get down for the first home game with a spring in our steps and hope in our hearts , twas ever thus .......................Godzvilla!
-
I'm off to Beijing for 4 days and the weather there is freezing cold but glorious sunshine. Great combination.
And we have 2 weeks to prepare for our next game. And maybe the internationals will break up our awful streak of form.
-
Dave Cooper had a good weekend.
-
Much like Dave, I had a spiffing weekend. Good enough that I'd forgotten about the match entirely, and good enough still that after checking on the score I only felt a wave of seething rage for a couple of minutes before returning to enjoying the weekend with my lovely.
I dread to think how painful this season would be on me, if not for the welcome distraction of my lovely girlfriend. I would have very little reason to be cheerful.
Oh well, I look forward to local Derbies with Coventry and Leicester next year. Welcome back Darius Vassell!
-
I've just brought a house, I'm uncertain if that's a good thing or not at the moment but its a start, I'll have a door to lock and cry behind if it comes to it

and you can kick it down when you get home after watching Villa lose to Newcastle, and Stoke, and............

This is Villa's 100th season in the top flight!!!
-
I have dug the whole allotment and it looks ace. I even replaced the leaky tap on the communal water-butt. My neighbour gave me two large parsnips as a token of gratitude.
-
The single most important thing Graham Taylor ever said at Villa Park was "forget what you used to be like, this is what you are like now."
This is a humbling piece of GT profundity; I have an image of him saying this deep in the bowels of the Trinity Road stand, whilst a shaft of bright sunlight refracts through a stained glass window high above and onto Chris Price's head. "You have eight Champions League games" doesn't quite have the same effect.

You got us into this mess, you get us out of it.

I thought he had a great game considering he had never played there before. Looks a really good prospect and has a bit of aggression in him. Maybe he and Clarke could be a future pairing at CH
-

That was when we were 2-0 down at half time in the F.A Cup at Crewe i believe. I think he walked straight back out of the dressing room after he said it. We won 3-2. The man is a legend.
-
SGT also said I don't care what your bad at just what your good at!
We should adopt that policy also, and were good at long ball *winky*

Hey, I didn't see a thread about this in off-topic. Whats going on?

Having said final farewell to a friend and neighbour of 30+ years this morning
the trials and tribulations of AVFC are put in prospective -
-
Here's a positive, we may be spared one of those excrutiating end of season laps of "honour" this year
Can you imagine it

I just found out work are sending me to Amsterdam in a few weeks. Super !!
-
I have worked out yes I have that we are not going to get relegated this season. By using complex maths, including a slide rule and sine tables, and allowing for "him" keep messing it up we will lose 4 out of eight games win 2 and draw 2 and that would be enough to keep us up.
However when that happens I will still hate "him". So I am quite cheerful today.
-
I found a reason to be cheerful at the match. I sat back, shook my head and placed my hands over my face in despair when Jarvis' volley went in. Then, as I looked up ready to curse, I saw a very lovely looking woman making her way down the Holte steps and thought 'Hmm, she's tasty'. How fickle I am.

That's your sap rising because spring has sprung.
I bet you didn't go to the Bartons and engage in cupping someone's splendours, though.
It just wasn't that kind of day.
