I suspected as much, though I have a sneaking suspicion the back four might line up differently. However, I'm pleased with those attacking options. Incredibly, there isn't a single natural defender on the bench.

Houllier must truly hate Beye and Warnock. Not even a defender on the bench. Fair enough if we win but if not surely some sort of truce should have been called. Then again those two could be acting disgracefully behind the scenes for all we know.

Dont think Delph deserved to be dropped but we should have a lot going forward today.

Our widemen should have a field day today. Particularly down the right with Walker supporting.

Bit worried about being outnumbered in the middle 3 v 2 . Hammill and Jarvis will put in decent deliveries if given space too.

Berra and Stearman are shocking. As is Hennessy.

Young's been staying deeper recently, not doing those aimless and selfish forward runs of a couple of months ago. He's going to have to keep that up today.

Henry will probably man mark him Id say. Henry is a thug so Young needs to get him on a yellow early on.

That information is erroneous. They are, in fact, doing it in order to allow Robert Pires time to get up for Villa corners.

ah, yes. Makes a lot of sense. Or at least enough time for Dunne to finish his 4th serving of pie & chips and down his 14th pint ahead of training.

Aargh. Lovely bit of movement down the left but that is Ashley in a nutshell these days. In a tight bit of space he manages to knock the ball forward and take a defender out of the game. Then when it comes to the far easier task of a lightly treaded ball through to Bent he overhits it. So often he does it, fucking annoying.

Makoun has been shocking. Harsh on Baker I would have preferred Makoun being withdrawn but Delph is an improvement.

Cuellar had to do better for the goal and Downing was asleep not tracking Jarvis.

Hi fellas.   Just got in and on VS.   Apart from the scoreline - how we played?

mediocre game, Wolves had 2 goals disallowed (offside and ball went over the byline).  Took Baker off after about half hour...not sure if he felt he was responsible for poor defending.  Brought Delph on.  Concede goal then start to show some urgency.  Couple of ok crosses into the box but only one decent chance Makoun header from 5 yards went wide.

Haven't noticed Herd do anything wrong in an unfamilar position.  Haven't noticed Makoun or Reo Coker do anything I expected them to.

Doomed, doomed, doomed.

I've seen plenty on here calling for the kids to play, well they are and its a disastrous performance. We have no depth in the squad, how pathetic is it that we don't have enough cover defenders we are playing 2 midfield players as defenders, its crazy.

There's no fight, no will to succeed, so it looks like the midweek bonding session was a huge unquestionable success.

I'm just hoping its a Blackburn like second half, otherwise, they'll score several more.

we've been very flat, and McCarthy has obviously lit a fire under their lot. We look very unsure of ourselves, and we need an early goal in the 2nd half. The longer this goes the worse it will be, and I won't be in the least suprised to see Wolves get a second. If we get a goal in the first 10-15 minutes, I can see us having enough to win. But first of all, and most importantly, we need to hsve more belief. I just don't see where that's going to come from right now.

To be honest, we only really have kids in defence, and only due to injuries.  Albrighton I think has earned a start, and most others are on loan.  For me, the experience in attack should be asking more questions and Friedel should be leading more to support the youngsters.  There is an altogether lack of togetherness.

Petrov for Makoun for me at half time. He should be able for 45 mins against the crap Wolves have in midfield. Might be braver to give Bradley a run but his horror show at City would scare me. Petrov's experience is needed imo out there. We look an absolute rabble out there and his experience might give us a lift.

Our widemen have done well when on the right so I dont think there is a point bringing on Gabby. Full backs need to push on more and Bent needs to wake the fuck up. He looks like he has lead in his boots. Makoun has been absolutely shocking imo and part of the reason we cant link any play up.

The players look afraid of the occasion for me. All looking to someone else to provide some inspiration. Wolves are an absolutely shit side but they have spirit. We are gutless.

Relegation teams are the one that lose belief in themselves at the wrong time of the season and just sink. I think Wigan are already there, Blackburn are on a very steep downward slope, and we're not far behind. When I look at West Ham, Blackpool or even the shit or the baggies, they all have a nastiness about them to get them out of jail. If we don't find that it's going to be tough going. The aim was to get to the last two games of the season already safe. I'm not sure we will have done enough by them. I think the Bolton game really knocked the stuffing out of us, coupled with last weeks unsavoury events.

Good point by Francis about the total lack of appeals from our players.

You could be forgiven for thinking they're not that arsed.

Complete agree, Houllier's certainly lost the players confidence

Sums it all up though, not one player showing any passion and asking the ref why it isn't a fking pen. We are too NICE and will be relegared because of it. The Wolves players would have been all over the ref there.

I remember being very impressed when Le Gaffeur came in and spoke of Villa needing to be nastier and to have more "biting teeth". He's turned us from being slightly too nice to the softest fucking touch in the league. If you are looking bad we are the team you want to be playing.

I've never seen a less arsed management team. Houllier probably is a good manager if you're in the top ten trying to push on and many of the changes are for the long term good. But, he's not the man you want leading you out of a relegation scrap and relegation would be a disaster for this club right now. We probably should have got rid of Houllier by now.

I've said for ages that there's no point sacking him, as it'd just hasten our relegation, and that I could see the positives he was achieving, but watching this, he has clearly lost the dressing room beyond retrieval. I genuinely can't see how we're ever going to pick more points up.

We need to be putting a run of results together, but we're currently turning in a performance so insipid that it suggests we're only going one way, down. The frightening thing is, it looks more and more like a runaway train that Houllier has no control of.

Very, very worrying.

Right now, my stomach is turning inside out. I've never seen a need to criticise for the sake of it, and for a little while things were turning around. Is the confidence of this football club so fragile that certain performances or results influence others so much. The famous Stoke game, the great performance and subsequent defeat at Bolton. Is that now our Stoke that will see the season just crash? It is such an empty feeling and I'm trying like everyone to hang on to something.

You say it like its fact that sacking him would hasten our relegation. When there is absolutely no basis for that. Venables coming on board to save Boro for one.

There is no defending Houllier's results. He has to go after the game or the club will face financial meltdown.

Would anyone take a defeat here today (given the score already) if it meant Houllier went?

I never want to see my team lose. Even if we win and I hope we do, I will continue to doubt the manager. Until I see signs we are moving forward I will doubt him and I will gladly eat humble pie if he proves me wrong next season.

I get what you're saying. It pains me to say it, however I would for go a point today if it meant Houllier going tomorrow. I believe ANY new man coming in would get more points than these clueless muppets. Sad times

I'm not sure this rabble can be saved. If we lose today we are in it. Regardless of the impact of a loss aside from points on the board three points today would be the surest way to ensure survival.

this is so depressing.....anyone feel like crying?

Arsenal level!!!

I don't feel like crying. I feel powerless. Like I'm being tortured and have no power to resist.

I have the same feeling.

Combined with feeling almost dead and totally numb inside.

Fair one, not going to happen though us it. I actually do think a manager who could inspire a little confidence and teach the team how to defend would get points and quickly

The only way our season can be saved is for Randy to rectify the mistake he has made. Getting Rid of Houllier would boost the players and hopefully enable us to crawl over the line......

This is utterly shite. We've lost our heads, heart and all ideas. Everton away next. Ash being a twat on top of everything else.

Kicking people is headless not an illustration of commitment. A striker taking a free kick that should be left for the keeper is also not clever or useful.
