Title: Swindon (a)/Arsenal (a) 1993 footage
Post by: Deano's Mullet on March 15, 2011, 06:21:02 PM

Two away matches from 1993 at Swindon and Arsenal. The Swindon match is right at the start, the Arsenal game a few minutes later. That particular match at Highbury i remember very well, they were all over us and yet we won 2-1, Bosnich saving a penalty from Ian Wright.

I remember the goals well now I've seen them again.

I don't remember why the clock end was empty though (apart from the Villa section)??

They had only just finished that stand (putting seats onto the existing terracing) and for some reason it wasnt quite ready for the home fans to use but ok for the away fans, thats how I remember it.  I went to that game and the Coca Cola Cup match back at Highbury later in the month.

The Clock End seating was being finished and apart from the Villa fans in the corner there were quite a few in the North Bank. This was the last game I went to before moving to New Zealand a few days later and when Townsend scored there were pockets of celebations all over the North Bank, with groups of Villa fans in there. Some of the Arse fans weren't overly happy with us being in the North Bank though.

I love those old videos. The game looks a lot slower and the players look awful. A lot of bad passing and it seems like they can't kick it far!!

I also love how there were Villa fans in the North Bank. Arsenal fans don't remember them not being able to sell out before Arsene.

The era just before football went crap and became a product.

Mottys comment on 9.40 about crowds of 44,000 at Old Trafford becoming commonplace.

Great away victories, nasty shirts though

I can see myself politely applauding Townsends late winner

I was at both of these games. Townsend was brilliant that year.

I also love how there were Villa fancould kick the ballls in the North Bank. Arsenal fans don't remember them not being able to sell out before Arsene.

Old videos? It was 1993! Did you notice though that all the crowd were men wearing flat caps smoking woodbines,  apart from the chaps in the West Stand who were sporting Trilbies. I'll also let you know that some of the players were pretty good and could kick the ball miles :)
