Great piece from Central News i believe featuring the Bradford win that virtually clinched promotion from Div 2 to Div 1.
-
Thanks for that.
Our last league game at VP outside the top division.
Promotion was assured a few days later with the 0-0 draw at Swindon.
Thats almost a quarter of a century ago now and Im wondering where the time has gone!
-
Oh the memories. What a great time I had that season.
-
Nice to see that again cheers Deano.
-
I remember that like yesterday, great header from Platt and we won in claret shorts!
-
That was the longest second half ever!
-
If we had decent home form we would have gone up as champions but visiting teams used their visit to Villa Park as their cup final, great images of the old Holte end.
-
You tit, Aspinall.
-
I remember it well, we squeezed home, didn't we?

Yeah but we did it and the images from Swindon were fantastic!
-
Funny that, I always recall Platt's header being from much further out, another 10 years and it would have been from the halfway line

ha ha. Same with me - that's the trouble with Youtube.
What a fantastic day though. Pitch invasion at the end, thought we were home and dry.....
I also remember thinking that 36,000 ( I think that was the crowd) was a fantastic gate for Villa
-
LOL - I can see me and my mate on pitch at the end!
Bought dodgy (forged) tickets for Swindon in the Little crown after this game, my favourite Villa season ever - happy Days :)
-
I went to this game but I was only 7 and dont really remember much about it. Certanly not is importance.
-
We secured the play off place and in the interview after the Swindon game, Sir Graham identified the importance of this win going into the final game saying that we had "another bite of the cherry". It took the pressure of the team but it didn't seem like it at the time.
-
I was one of the 'erberts on the pitch at the final whistle. Great days.
-
The away game was on Youtube once. Bradford City 2 Aston Villa 4.
I remember watching this many times on tape as a youngster.
-
I've still never known an atmosphere like this one at Villa Park. It was our generation's Bournemouth.

That was a great game and a tremendous atmosphere. I am sure two new signings made their debuts, but I cant remember who. It was also the first time I heard the chant "My old man said be a city fan, but I said etc etc" really take off.
-
Andy and Stuart Gray I think.
-
The week before my tenth birthday, this was one of the first games I went to. Can remember watching Jaws 2 on TV that night, probably not realising the significance of it all.
Great find, cheers Deano's!

Wasn't that our old Head of Communications at the front of the clip.

Is he still at Villa Park?
-
I thought he had been replaced by an MON man who might have left when he did.

Brian Duggan is still there.
-
my favourite ever Villa game,Bradford away, dunno why . they were good at the time and beating them set us on our way, packed into a very tight away end as i recall, good times
-
It's weird the things you remember, back in the days of having to wait for Monday nights Central news to see the goal, I remember them showing Ian Botham watching from one of the boxes. Also, I remember the previous home game against Shrewsbury being almost as tense but with about half the crowd.
-
I wasn't really aware of Villa until the following season, but this was my first ever kit.
It's obviously special to me, but how was it received by older supporters at the time? It's pretty gross, isn't it?

Looking back it's one of my favourites, but it was the first one I had too (but with the claret shorts we wore the year after) so that probably clouds my judgement. The 1989-90 was better all round.
