A Spanish journalist (http://twitter.com/#!/maldinisport) has claimed this shirt is from 'Aston Villa 1980' - but it doesn't look right to me (I was only 5, but I have seen shirts from that era and I don't remember a collar anything like this)

Has he got it completely wrong and it's a fake, or maybe it was created for a testimonial or something? I actually quite like it, hence the question...

Looks like one of the knock-off ones people used to buy from the Swan Market.
-
It looks like it hasn't been ironed for over 30 years, certainly
-
Not with that badge.Fake.
-
Nothing that looks particularly like it here (http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Aston_Villa/Aston_Villa.htm).
-
My guess is it was a sample knocked up by Umbro but never chosen.
-
Oooh he's giving it away! All you have to do is identify two photos he's going to post on the morning of the Barça - Arse game ... and it's yours!!
Roll on Tuesday (or is it Wednesday)

Indeed Wilfred.
What the fook is Smiffy doing ''following'' a Spanish pundit? :o
-
Is that one of those desert camel spiders hiding underneath it?
-
I can tell if anything is fake or natural from 2 miles and it's fake, although I don't mind fake ones now and then!
-
110% fake!!!!!

Looks more like Burnley's 1980 top with a fake Villa badge sewn on instead.
-
Our collar definately wasn't like that in 1980- cheap fake.
-
It looks like an 80s Scunthorpe shirt which Ian Botham would have played in.
-
The answer is no.
-
Its a snide.
-
Looks fake to me.

fake
Reminds me of being in kardamena in Kos a few years ago and the owner had all football shirts on the wall and he proudly showed me the shirt "worn by Tony Morley when Villa won the championship"
It looked fine apart from it was the le coq kit that we didn't win the title in and the sleeves were turquoise.

The best fake I ever saw was in Thailand in 2009.
Blue shirt, Claret Sleeves with the old badge on it and ACRONS across the middle.
Bloke selling it was adamant that it was the real thing!
-
My mate bought one back from the Far East and I must admit it was bang on until you looked at the badge and saw "Ashton Villa"
-
After the GAIS game in Sweden, someone tried to flog us a shirt with 'DWS Invespments' on. There were a couple of other things clearly wrong with it, but that stood out.
Some may find it sad, but it's quite entertaining reeling the sellers in and letting them down, like those in overseas markets trying to sell you a 'Manchester Football' Shirt as real.

Wasn't there a team in Ireland called Ashton Villa, or was it Ashtown Villa?

Ashtown.
They merged with Kinvara Ards to form Phoenix FC a couple of years back.
