The boggly eyed salad dodger has picked both Downing and Young.

Downing created five goal-scoring chances this weekend, the joint-most in the Premier League. Only Matt Jarvis of Wolves (195) has made more crosses than him (192) in the Premier League this season.

I don't care about that. Downing was still shit. On at least two occasions he had the opportunity to rip Gamst Pedersen's leg off and stuff it up his nose (Pedersen's nose, obviously. Stuffing it up his own nose would have been very silly).

I agree.

I'm sick of seeing that pathetic fanny skipping off the pitch without blood on his shirt. He's a disgrace.

Downing has come good, as many of us predicted.

He's been very, very good this season.

Player of the season, probably.

I like him but he still ducks out of the odd challenge, I guess that comes from Petrov messing up his ankle.

The bloke behind me at the games (in the seat behind... not just behind me in a stalker/sodomite kind of way) really hates Downing. When does the Player of the Year voting start?

I imagine the offical PFA one has already taken place. Ridiculous - player of the first half of the season is what that award actually is.

Bale and Wilshere will surely scupper any chance Marc has of winning young player.

I just dont get this slagging off of Downing for not tackling, getting stuck in or twatting opposing players

He is a ball player not a defensive midfielder FFS

He is our best providing option in midfield and not only has created a lot of chances but is our leading scorer to boot

Jees - give the guy a break

How many tackles did John Barnes / Hoddle / Ronaldo / Morley et al put in during their careers

Spot On, it's pissing me off with all these people who can't just except Downing for his quality.

Yes Downing was pants last season, but has come good and is playing consistently well this season, people need to get over it.

The people behind me continuously have a go at Downing, but I think they are coming to appreciate him.  They have moved on to saying things like "Well done Downing, you idiot", which is a step forward I feel.

Some people are just never happy, and then too proud to admit there wrong. I diddnt think Downing was good enough, i wouldnt say i disliked him but he annoyed me. He's my player of the season so far without doubt..

Steve Coppell has a lot to answer for. Until he came along, a winger's job was to rip the opposition to bits when he had the ball and to look good while he waited for the next opportunity. Post-Coppell, and every winger is also supposed to be Norman Hunter.
