Nice one Chico. A bit before my time but no doubt my late Dad and Grandparents were in that crowd.
-
Brilliant. The commentary is great!
-
Can anyone confirm how many QFs we've been in since then (apart from not enough)?
-
West Ham, Forest, Everton?
edit - and Spurs in 1962?
-
Reading last year?
-
Man U in 1977.
-
Reading last year?
typical - I can "remember" stuff from decades ago but not from last season
-
Everybody in the crowd wearing a hat. I love that.

Liverpool in 92
-
Liverpool 1991/92 Oldham 1989/90

There's some great stuff on that site. Check out the links down the side to see more old Villa footage, including the '57 team bringing home the Cup.
It's great to see players old players that you have heard about in action.
-
So it looks like:-
1962
1977
1980
1990
1992
1996
2000
2010
8 QFs in the last 50 years - not a great record.

Didn't we lose 2-0 to Arsenal in 1983 as well?
-
And I seem to remember a quiz question as a nipper which related to the fact that for 5 consecutive years from around 1958-62 we lost to the eventual winners of the cup in each season. Any body know if that is true?
-
I've been to our last 2 Quarter-Final appearances then.
Hoping to play Reading in them, for the second year running.

Fooking puffs - not a pair of pink / yellow / green boots in sight, no snoods, gloves or socks pulled up over their knees. No hair bands or people employed just to hand the players drinks
How would those players have coped with the tough conditions of modern day footballers !
-
I've been to the last 5 quarters.
9 away draws, have we ever been this close to a home quarter final before ?
-
Cheers Chico love seeing old footage of the Villa.

It was 1959 to 1963:
1959: Forest, semi final
1960: Wolves, semi final
1961: Spurs, 5th round
1962: Spurs, 6th round
1963: Manchester United, 4th round

Also happened last year, and the last two League Cups.

Wouldn't we have ended up at home in the QF a few years ago if Micah Richards hadn't scored that late header at VP to force a replay?

I reckon Dad & Grandad would've been there, unfortunately neither of them can confirm this now !

Liverpool 1992 was not the QF, it was the round before.

Cheers Rich6by7 - we really have been tripe in the FA Cup since 1957

Thanks for this, great stuff

Great to see this, Chico: several of my boyhood heroes are there, not to mention the famous curved balcony of the Trinity Road stand. It was, I think, the biggest Villa Park crowd I ever experienced, several thousand more than the Man U League Cup SF. My father, my brother and I arrived at 1 o'clock to get decent places at the Holte End. With about an hour to go before kick-off you just couldn't move, and during the game if, like us, you were behind a barrier, you were crushed by the surge of the crowd behind you when Villa scored.
-
I was at this game,so my father tells me, cant remember it though as i would have been 6 years old. Was that peter mcparland scoring the goal ?

Yes, he scored the 2nd goal

69732 according to records. The bigger Witton Lane Stand would have enabled getting a few more in plus less concerns about safety.
