Hope our lot behave themselves.
-
Oh dear. Weekend at the seaside + beer + female ref = ?
-
I wonder what Holloway will have to say about that. Hopefully SSN have him on speed dial.
-
Leave the poor cow alone. Looking at the ass. ref in the Arsenal game it proves being male doesn't get the job done any better.
-
I am a good lad honest. ;)
-
you smash it ? ;)
-

Exactly my thoughts, the Andy Gray songs at Wigan too. Aren't the away fans at Blackpool on the side of the pitch as well? Right behind where the linesperson will be?
On the other hand maybe we should give ourselves more credit.
-
Never mind the assistant!!!!
Look who the ref is! I will be surprised if we get any kind of decision this week.
-
who is da ref ?
-
In advance, I condemn the singing of the following song:
Have you smashed it
Have you smashed it
Have you smashed it, referee?
Have you smashed it, referee?
-
Howard Webb
-
Howard Webb
christ on a bike
-
At least they have put her with best referee.
-
Im delighted she will be given another opportunity to show her undoubted talents in this match.
After all, did you see that pic of her on the front of the sun the other week? FIT AS F*CK! Cant wait to see it close up......
-
At least they have put her with best referee.
Is this sarcasm?
-
At least they have put her with best referee.
Is this sarcasm?
He might not be the best ref regarding decisions, but he is the best at controlling players when it all kicks off.

Very true.
I thought he was very good last season (well until a certain semi final that is) but this season he has been awful.
-
there is just so much that could go wrong for us at this match I don'y want to think about it.
-
Oh please, please, please she gives a marginal offside decision in our favour that presents Bent with our winner, and Holloway's head explodes, and it's proven correct, please.
-
Leave the poor cow alone. Looking at the ass.
Sexist pig.
-
At least they have put her with best referee.
Yes Sir Alex.
-
she did a far better job in that game than many of the blokes we've had officiate our games recently. One or two of those morons might learn something from her.
-
I hope she gets treated in the same manner as any official does when and if she gets a decision wrong.
She will have done well if she isn't noticed.
-
Noticed that an assistant on the sunderland - spurs game is Glenn Turner.
Will he be playing bass guitar as well? I remember Trapeze..and Deep Purple...
possibly! what an official!
I reckon we should give him all our lurve
-
I doubt she will get the same treatment as men. Women have their seperate insults to men that tend to be based around alleged promiscuity rather than comparing them to genitalia.
We need a gender-neutral set of insults ready.
"Who's the ConDem in the black", maybe?
-
absolutely
-
Leave the poor cow alone. Looking at the ass.
Sexist pig.
What I was thinking.
-
the pressure on the poor girl will be palpable, I can see something going very wrong on the day
-
I would imagine it will take no more than five minutes for the first period related insult to be shouted.
-
I don't mind i get to see my beloved Villa and top totty at the same time thank god for Beer,Women, and Football keep up the good work God.
-
I would imagine it will take no more than five minutes for the first period related insult to be shouted.
Why can't the USA leave the sport alone? It's a game of 2 halves...
-
A female assistant?
Holloway?
A controversial penalty?
When they met, it was Moider!
-

And this is the manager of Blackpool. We call him Freeway, because that's where we send him out to play
-
" You can stick your fucking flag...." Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear....
-
Are you engaging in "banter"?
-
I'd just like to warn everyone that this thread is currently being read out on Talksport in the voice of Bernard Manning.
-
Trying to make a serious point, I do not understand how after the high-profile match she was involved in which caused the furore in the first place, the 'lower' level games she was next assigned to had her participation in stopped by her association and now the next match since the Sky debacle (I think) is another high-profile one.
-
" You can stick your fucking flag...." Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear....
Of course, requesting that a male linesman can stick his flag up his arse while then informing him that he has the resemblance to the slang word used for female genitalia is par of the course and naturally never gets mentioned.

What job's that then?!
-

"Now, I'm not saying our assistant referee is fat..."
-

Personally I think assigning her lower level games is paying too much heed to the media frenzy. Stick her in and let her do her job as if this wasn;t going on I say.
-
Irrespective of whether it is right or wrong, I would imagine she's more than used to stuff being said by the crowd. I'm sure she's also developed a pretty thick skin to most of the banter. What wasn't acceptable is prominent members of a major sports network acting that way.
-
She's going to get ripped to shreds, poor cow.
'Andy Gray my lord Andy Gray...'
'Stayed in the kitchen, you should have stayed in the kitchen...'
'Get your tits out for the lads...'
-

You must be so proud.
-
well i for one hope she gets the offside decisions right
Just like she did wolves vs Liverpool
I am more worried by the cnut that is Howard Webb
-
You do develop a thick skin when running the line, it goes with the job. If you listened to every comment that was made you would soon lose your concentration and therefore not function properly. It isn't always possible though as I found out in my younger days when running the line in the Midland Comb. It was a night match at Paget Rangers and for some unknown reason some bloke behind me took an instant dislike and he obviously didn't agree with a few decisions I gave. It was obvious he didn't think my fitness was all it should have been (it was I was young then) because I gave an offside decision and he yelled for all to hear " come on linesman keep up, you've got legs like Douglas fuckin Bader!" priceless.
-
It was a night match at Paget Rangers
that phrase got me. I love football
-
I am more worried by the cnut that is Howard Webb
Can you imagine if he overules her? "Now luv I know you think the flag looks pretty when it's fluttering in the air..."
-
Fantasic news if it is Sian. She needs to back on the touchline ASAP.
-
Fair play to her for making it to premier league level- must be really tough for her to be fair, with chants of ' gets your tits out for the lads' and stuff - the girl has got a lot of spirit and I wish her well as I'm sure the spotlight will be on her, if she does make a huge error please let it be in our favour!

Now that is just ridiculous - when has a huge error ever gone in our favour
-
She's going to get ripped to shreds, poor cow.
'Andy Gray my lord Andy Gray...'

Another bunch of football fans embarrassing themselves, that'll make a change.
-

I'm sure that in those quieter moments you close your eyes and wish that she was also black. Imagine the fun you'd have then.
-
I can honestly say that in all my years following the Villa, I've never been bothered who it is running the line. Certainly up until the moment when they get a decision wrong.
I'm not going to start worrying about it now.
-

Well, actually, wouldn't it be better if we ignored the fact that she is running the line and just enjoyed the game. It would show Villa fans in a much better light. Frankly, I'm embarrassed by the idiots who started chanting Andy Gray at the Wigan and Old Trafford games.
-
The media will be watching closely waiting for the derogatory songs etc. Why not come up with some favourable ones and suprise them.
Instead of "Lets all have a disco" how about "Lets all burn our bra's"
-
I would be disappointed if people are making up chants to sing at a poor girl trying to do her job, surely we as fans are better than that and it would not go down well.
Let's have an enjoyable weekend and get the 3 points and hope that sian has a good game and we win!
-
Personally, I would hope that she is just allowed to get on with her job and abused if she gets things wrong like every other match official.
-
When I consider the songs we sung when I was a youth at the Villa in the 70s and 80, I'm not inclined to pass judgement.
-
See that she comes from the West Midlands, so therefore she must be a Villa fan. I think this is a good omen.
-
She's probably the best assistant in the league
-
We should give her the clap.
-

she comes from coventry where villa are hated - lets hope she feels different!

PaulTheVillan: She's probably the best assistant in the league
-------------------
On what do you base that opinion?
-
Because all the other ones we have had have been shite.
-

She's not made a mistake yet ;)
-
Blackpool - Coventry ! how will she make it home in time to get the dinner on ?
-
It was bad enough giving them the vote but now a woman officiating at a game involving Aston Villa Football Club? Has the world gone completley mad?
Emily Pankhurst and the Suffragettes were the thin end of the wedge, I blame it all on that bloody woman running in front of the Kings horse.
(Seriously though, keep your powder dry. All abuse of match officials should be saved up exclusively for whenever Bottler Dowd is allowed near a match of ours again).
-

What a load of bollocks.
-
I fear some of our fans could abuse her and being high profile it will drag us through the mud in the press- I hope I'm wrong.
-
I think the Premier League are wrong to put her out there
They should be protecting her not feeding her to the lions
-
I think the Premier League are wrong to put her out there

Then the Keys/Gray mentality will have won.
-
She's run the line in a lower league game since, I beleive. And they wouldn't have assigned this game without asking her if she was happy to do it. As Chris says, if she avoids the Premier League, the sexist wankers will have won.
-
I agree that it would be better on her for her to be reintroduced at a lower league game without such high profile as the premiership, just to get her back into the game and then when the dust settles resume premier duties- I really wish her well on Saturday.
It's not about who's won , it's about protecting her and what's best for her and I feel this will be a high pressure game, I believe the last 2 gAmes she was going to assist that she was stood down , so it's time to get back in the game but I feel would have been easier on her in maybe league one or 2 just for a couple of games.

Quite right. Not picking her would be the same as resting a black player after receiving racist abuse.
-
Blackpool - Coventry ! how will she make it home in time to get the dinner on ?
She's from Coventry? Bollocks! She's bound to hate us then
-
Surely there should be some sort of rule in place where officials can't be chosen for games involving teams within say a 30 mile radius of their hometown, I thought that used to be the case?
-
PaulTheVillan: She's probably the best assistant in the league

yes she has. just moments after torres' first goal against wolves.
-

I don't disagree, I would just have given it a month or so more
I hope our fans don't rip her apart
-
Dare I suggest that Blackpool/Villa is not considered a high-profile game by anyone but us and the donkey-fanciers.
-
Jesus, is this really worthy of a thread?
-
Any premier game is high profile in this day and age- either way I hope it all goes well for her and us.
-
Why is everyone making such a big deal of this whole female ref thing?

Every other official has to deal with abuse, it is something that she will have to put up with if she wants to make it; the blind bastard.
-
Jesus, is this really worthy of a thread?
Yes, we will have a thread about anything. We once had a 30 odd page thread about the Bartons closing after a Man City game. Then there are the numerous Peter Crouch threads, it's about time we had another one...
-
The Barton's closed after the Spurs game too. Bastards.
-
Leave the poor cow alone. Looking at the ass.
Sexist pig.
What I was thinking.
Talk about misquoting someone. You bastards!
-
I'd smash it!
-
She should be afforded the same respect as any official. I.e. You are fine until you give a stinker against us and then you are a cock of the highest order.
-

Blackpool - Coventry ! how will she make it home in time to get the dinner on ?
lol
her significant other takes the pre-prepared tupperware labelled '12th feb dins' out of the freezer and zaps it in the microwave? I wish her well.
-
I remember the wife going on a cooking spree just before she went to Canada for a month. I think she believed I would spend that time wandering into the kitchen and looking bemused at why there was no food on the side.
-
The assistant ref runs the bye-line on opposite side to the 'away' support at Bloomfield Road-
From what I have heard and seen Sian is a competent official and maybe one day will get
the opportunity of taking charge of a Premier match -
She certainly can't do worse than some I could name -
-
I think it's all been blown out of proportion and I certainly don't like the professional match officials comment of looking for the opportunity to bring her back.
I've been crucified several times on high level matches, you get used to it and there are only certain people you listen to - your match assessor and your referee coaches, everyone elses opinion including the media means sweet FA.
You know the rules, you know your match fitness, you are there because you have proved yourself and I am sure Sian has that confidence in her to keep going regardless of what the greater unwashed in the stands (not all fans are unwashed, some are clean ;)) think of her and her decisions.

It's not necessarily as simple as that, Mozza. It is the referee who decides which 'diagonal' he will run when officiating a match and although most referees tend to run the 'left' diagonal as you describe above, which would mean the assistant referee (on that side of the pitch) runs along the northernmost half of the East Stand line at Bloomfield Road, with the away fans in the southernmost half of the East Stand. However, should the referee decide to run a 'right' or 'reverse' diagonal then the assistant referee would be immediately in front of the away fans on Saturday. Referees who choose the latter are in the minority but when I used to referee I ran a 'right' diagonal as I felt more comfortable in doing so and specifically in enabling me to better see the two assistant referees.
-
I'm going to go slightly off topic and disagree with you that the "right" diagonal means you can see the assistants better, whichever diagonal you use, the area that you run is just opposite meaning you get as good a view as ever.
I am left handed and actually prefer the opposite diagonal but over here in Aus, unless the lines cannot be used, we are predominately right, whereas when I ran in teh UK we were encouraged to do both.
The format we use for positioning is left of ball with an emphasis on the ref - ball - AR where possible.
Anyway, I am digressing. Her line will also be affected as to whether or not she is allocated as AR 1 or AR2. :)

Hi, AV1874. I probably didn't express myself as well as I could in the last sentence. Effectively, I was trying to say that it's a personal thing, not suggesting that you do actually have a better view. Funnily enough, I'm also left handed and I suspect that this has alot to do with my choice.
-
May I just state that woman and football do not mix. Ever. Same as vegetarians and humanity.
-

No worries, I am like that too, I know what I am saying but what I type out usually doesn't resemble it in any way! :-)
I drive them nuts over here when I tell them I want left diagonal, they all look at me as if I am insane as left diagonal for AR's has never been really taught.
