FIFA rarely do anything right, but I'd be all for this one. Players wearing scarves during a game. Fuck me.
And yes, I'm talking to you Ashley.
Fifa consider snood ban as they could pose 'a potential danger to players' necks'
Players could be banned from wearing snoods on safety grounds.
Snoods have become increasingly popular in the Premier League after Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor started the trend last season, but they are not officially-sanctioned kit.
A Fifa spokesman said: "We want a debate over the snood and whether it could be dangerous. There may be a safety issue - if for example a player was running through on goal and an opponent grabbed his snood, that could pose a potential danger to his neck."
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has banned his players from wearing them, with club captain Rio Ferdinand saying on his Twitter account: "You won't see a Man Utd player wearing a snood."
Roy Keane has also declared his opposition to snoods, saying: "They've all gone soft. I don't know how they do it and focus on the game, it's weird. That's the way the game's gone."
-
Personally i agree, surely your neck doesn't get that cold when running around.
I do think Ashley just loves to wind people up though, and since he has realised that by him wearing one winds people up he thrives on it.
-
If you are cold you aren't running enough!
-
I couldn't agree with FIFA more i think it was a stupid idea letting the players wear snoods.
-
Good to see FIFA tackling the real issues like snood wearing rather than minor matters such as rampant corruption in the game.
-
Watched Inter V Bari last night and Cesar was wearing one as a 'wooly hat'! Looked such a plonker.
-
I would ban long sleeves and those tight under tops they wear.
Short sleeves only.
-
Body-warmers, snoods...all endorsed by wankers.
-

Well said.
-
Ban gloves as well.....and earrings....and arm tatoos, neck tatoos, alice bands and ugly players.
-
Why don't the get on and tackle goal line technology and real
important issues .... FIFA really are a laughing stock
-
The only thing I agree with FIFA

they're hardly going to ban things that are making them money now are they?
Expect to see all players wearing snoods with the word FIFA and Qatar stretched across them sometime soon.

About time too.
I commented on Ashley Young running around the Old Trafford pitch on Tuesday wearing a snood and gloves. It wasn't even that cold.
-
I agree they are a needless accessory and very often not in club colours and could even prevent a choking hazard first time FIFA have got a decision in order.

"The International FA Board has announced that the wearing of snoods in matches will be banned from 1 July"
(from BBC Football Live just now)
So Ashley can wear one against Liverpool then.
-
when did most footballers become pansies ?
I remember Keith Dellar of Leicester playing football in tights in the early 80s - but it was effin cold
then came the cycling shorts, then shorts down to the knees
then those poncey tight under shirts
now it's any excuse to wear gloves
reading the Allan Evans thread, can you imagine him wearing anything other than a short sleeved shirt even on the coldest of days 8)
-
Keith Weller.
-
Keith Weller.
beg your pardon you're absolutely right, was I thinking of a darts player or something
-
Quite right, I hate those bloody snoods.
While they were at it, they should have banned gloves too and made short sleeved shirts in all weather compulsory.
And bring back big heavy leather balls with a lace. If these soft bastards are going to get £100k per week Im entitled to see half their skull taken off when they head the ball on the lace in the rain.
-
If you pulled a player back in the penalty area by pulling his snood. would it be a foul? you are not actually pulling the shirt are you... Ban the horrid thing now.
-
"The International FA Board has announced that the wearing of snoods in matches will be banned from 1 July"
I might have missed something, but is there any logical reason to ban them beyond "they look a bit wussy"?

Dangerous apparently, you can strangle someone with one or something.

You could probably beat someone to death with a shinpad if you really wanted to.
-
Really don't have any issue with it tbh. Especially not in Ash's case, he works as hard as anyone in recent years down the Villa.
-
Young will be very cold on Man Utd's bench without his little snood to keep him warm.
-
They are very comfortable.
-
I love the way they're acting on it just as summer is about to kick in (well, for most of Europe anyway).
-
Apparently it's because there is a danger of strangling when a player is running at speed. Is that why Young hasn't been skinning anyone this year?

True. I reckon you could wreak some havoc by kicking someone in the balls with your studs too.

As said previously good to see FIFA focusisng on the important things.
With regards to the comments about the tight shirts, even as a ref, I wear SKINS underneath my uniform as compression garments - I have short sleeved top, shorts and the "sox". They make for much more comfortable refereeing and be it psychological or otherwise I feel they do make an impact in terms of less lactic acid effects after matches. Considering us not so high up the ladder refs can do between 2 to 3 full games Saturday and then the same on Sunday, they do make a difference.
