Gary Neville has retired from football with immediate effect.
It's on Twitter, so it's true
Edit: Confirmed http://bit.ly/e5S8N0
-
Yep, all over Sky sports and the BBC websites.
-
Major breaking news repeated ad nauseum for the rest of the month (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/9385692.stm)
-
Old enough to retire, yet can still only grow bum-fluff on his top lip.
-
What more's to be said ?
-
He will be the new Andy Gray
-
Meh
-
How will we cope?
-
Good. I won't miss him the gobby, ugly, odious, little shit.
-
I think we will all remember where we were, and what we were doing, when we heard the news.
I was sitting here, doing this
-
He will be the new Andy Gray
Apparantly Sky want him. Great. Another miserable git on the telly.
-
I hope his gob retires as well, the ridiculous little prick.
-
Never was a nickname more apt:
Busy Bollocks.
What a tool, I couldn't stand him.
-
I liked the way he used to wind up the Dippers.
Its the sort of childish stuff you'd imagine we'd all get up to if playing against Small Heath.
A decent right back in his pomp, light years ahead of that clown Glenda. He's got away with a few red cards this season.
-
scholes retires?? giggs retires??.....great players and full respect great role models also.
gary neville retires.....nil respect you carry yourself like a flea, your brother shows you up as a man.......i will not waste a good bye so piss off....may i say no other word on the matter.

To drone on about ManU every week.
-
I think I would actually sooner have Norman Tebbitt and George Galloway as summarisers
-
The mute button will be worn out when he is on!
-
Graceless, classless twat
He's just about unintelligent enough to take over from Andy Gray though
Will slot into Sky's portfolio of moronic ex-footballers pretty well
-
Do you include Paul Merson in that?
-
Do you include Paul Merson in that?
I'll pass on that Leeg but I was just thinking the same as I typed my comment....
-
Really really depresses me that such an odious little twat has won as many league titles as we have in our history.
Wonder if they mention his debut in front of less than 20K at old trafford in the Uefa cup. Thought not.
-
****The BBC are delighted to announce that now Gary Neville has retired, Match Of The Day can be shown before the watershed. It was impossible before as you can't show a c**t on TV before 9pm****
-
Had the bastard with a passion. Can't remember why. It can't be that important now, but I won't let that stop me.
-
Preparing to be shot down.... I like him. Good marauding right back for England, and was bothered enough to show passion for club and country.
He lived the dream and acted as we all would for our clubs.
Best moment was the celebration in front of the Liverpool fans - how I wish we had someone to have done that against the Blues.
-
Day of national mourning is now planned !
-
Had the bastard with a passion. Can't remember why. It can't be that important now, but I won't let that stop me.
Just the sight of his vile, moronic looking face is enough. He's one of life's wrong 'uns, he is officially my most disliked footballer ever. Horrible little scab of a man.
-
Good. Glad to hear that news. He can hang his boots up in his Telly Tubby house now. Any other news ?
-
Fairwell, you horrible, rat faced Dot Cotton lookalike.
-
Never liked him or his sour faced brother.
-

Clark, i think youre being unfair to scabs.
-
Oh wise fellow Villains, you are correct. He could only announce this at such an unusual time if he was signed up to be the woman-hating red-biased replacement for Andy Gray or if not Alan Green.
-
I'm glad I don't have Sky if that is where he ends up.
-
Hasn't he been grooming himself for years as Gordon Taylor's replacement at the PFA?
Much as I dislike Andy Gray, he has an energy and enthusiasm on screen that Neville has not.
In fact, Gary Neville has rather less screen presence than a non-stick frying pan
-

Thanks for this post. It sent me to bed laughing like a twat! :-)

I've never been bothered either way but, as a player when in his prime, he was the kind of full-back I'd love to have here. A good defender who knew how - and when - to attack.
-
Been one of the most consistent right backs in the last 15 yrs. Good luck to him .......
-
If he does go to Sky, I look foward to his analysis on the merseyside derby in view of his comments about scousers.
He wouldn't have got half his caps if he'd played for a club other than Newton Heath, and the same goes for his brother, whose got a face like it was drawn by Piccaso.
-
He would not have hafl his caps had there been a viable alternative, but there never was. Never an issue with him, but never a fan either. Think he will flounder a bit on sky, but he will undoubtedly be new Andy Gray.
-
Not particularly bothered by him to be honest. I'll miss his winding up of our friends on Merseyside.
-
Really good full back, if he'd been at Villa we'd have loved him but he wasn't so he's a twat.
-
Detestable character but fair play to him for making the absolute most of his ability - the likes of Ireland could learn a thing or two from him.
-
I quite like Gary Neville. I like how he hates Liverpool & how he gave Tevez the forks.
-
I like him too. A one club man, passionate about his club even though I hate ManU with equal passion.
I also warmed to him when the camera would scan across the England team during an International match, Neville's face would be stern with his mouth shut, no "God save the Queen" coming out of his mouth. Is he a republican? Bonus points if he is. Those bonus points are eaten though into when he became the 'voice' over the Ferdinand issue when the players threatened to strike. It shows he has leadership qualities even if they were then misguided.
If Sky is to be the next step in his career then he'll be a welcome change from what was.
-
I must admit i've never liked Red Nev when he opens his fat gob and that horrible voice starts talking you just wan't to hit the mute button.
-
Fergie's mouthpiece.
I thought he'd fucking died, the way the telly and radio have been wanking on about him.
As for the "one club man" line, I wonder how loyal he'd have been if the club had not been Man United?
-
il never understand how such a limited footballer could play for man utd through their glory years, and for england for so long.. i suppose it teaches young players that even if you are shit, if you work hard and wind up your rivals, you can achieve anything...
-
Such an arselicker around Fergie and Man Utd.
Doesn't he have a massive flower bed spelling out the words 'United' ?
I'm sure it was in one of the tabloids.
-
A cock of the very highest order. Good fucking riddance.
-
Did he ever build that Telly Tubby house he was planning on?
-

See Denis Irwin also.
As for Karen Neville, totally agreed, a complete tosspot.
As for the limited ability, it helped when he had David Beckham playing just in front of him and never needed to overlap and then get back. Easiest job in football being the Right Back at Man Utd when Beckham was in his pomp there.
-
He didn't get planning permission for his house: http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1269685_planning_permission_rejected_for_gary_nevilles_teletubbies_house (http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1269685_planning_permission_rejected_for_gary_nevilles_teletubbies_house)
How much was down to local concern vs. hatred from local Trotters remains to be seen, I know where my money is.
-
Goodbye, wont be missed. The most hated manure player out of the lot for me
-
So he wanted to live underground
Is that a queue i see forming with people with shovels
Cnut - made an even bigger cnut for playing for them and an even bigger cnut for acting like a cnut opening his mouth and sounding like a cnut and looking like a cnut
Yep you are right i think he is acnut

Not sure if i even hate Gardner that much Ha .....
-
one club man!
yeah but that club was Man Utd, you know biggest club in the whole world etc
so its not hard to stay there as they were winning everything, especially when its the club you supported as a kid,
dont think its in the same league as Le Tiss.
good player no more in some great Man U sides, out of depth at international level as are most England players.
one eyed supporter of Utd, which i dont hold against him as its his team, so fair play for the Liverpool baiting.
heard yesterday he drives a Toyota Prius, which he parks in amongst the Bentleys and Astons, so fair play for that to.
wont be missed by me,
but like others have said, if we had the same player at Villa we would love him, and Man U fans rightly do,
but he's not at Villa so he's still a Knob

I entirely agree - I'd add overrated too!
-
Falls into the 'who gives a shit' category for me.
-
The whole Barrack Room Lawyer business of trying to gets players to strike because poor old Rio , I can't be arsed with drugs tests and do a disappearing act when required to do them Ferdinand, got banned is reason enough to hate the scrawny little toerag.
-
i just hope that he does not end up on the telly, can you imagine him commentating on his beloved Man Ure
-
god yes, everyone in the studio would have to wear wipe clean tops
-
A rare breed in today's English game, a full back who could actually defend and who also knew how to lend a hand in attack occasionally, without ever being "marauding". Always made the most of his ability and seemed committed and incredibly loyal to his team mates which are qulaities we would like all like from our own players. I can't honestly remember him ever being absolutley skinned in a game, even at the highest level, so he must have been half decent.
I respect his loyalty to his team mates but thought the strike idea re dodo brain Ferdinand was ludicrous. Comes across as a barrack room lawyer and strikes me as the one Newton Heath player of the past 5-10 years who could become a manager. In short, I don't like him but I htink he was a far better player than most on here give hime credit for.
Am I right in thinking that some scouse builders put a Liver bird mosaic under his swimming pool many years ago?

Almost, Pat, almost

Thet are questioning every single PL manager about Gary Nevilles retirement on SSN FFS
AND
Harry Redknapp MIGHT be making an offer for Beckham in the Summer ::)
-
Harry redknapp will make an offer for G Neville too ahah
-
Why didn't Vieira twat him then?
-
Sometimes posts require some details. Sometimes, like on this occasions, two sentences will do.
Great player. Complete twat.
You can further trim it down to two words.
Great Twat.
-
To be fair, he was a pretty decent right back. But his twattishness makes a lot of people forget that he WAS a decent right back.
-
All this bollocks about loyalty. It's not hard to be loyal when it's Man Utd you're playing for.
-
I like him. Anyone who's nickname begins with the word 'red' goes up in my estimation.
A bit like I like Fergie because he donates to the Labour Party.
I'm easily pleased.
-

Correct.
