Great result, well done to all, keeps things ticking nicely and Bradley looked very good in world cup, could be a very good signing for us- after Tuesday we have 11 games in a row against teams outside the top 7 so every chance to move on up the table- good times ahead !
-
Nice win... 3 wins in 3 now - starting to get some consistency now.
I don't know why but I want those neanderthals at home next round, teach those knuckle draggers a lesson to not mess with the Villa.
-
Cracking win in what sounds like a good match! Good to see us making sensible use of a squad, too....
-
Good to see Uncle Bob get a goal.
Someone shit please.
-
3 points in the bag (guess the crowd) WOOHOO
-
Really pleased. Orient, Torquay/Crawley, Sheff Wed/Hereford next please.
-
Great result all things considered. Shame we couldn't keep a clean sheet, but still says a lot about the time not conceding again with all the pressure Blackburn had late on and with us being a player down.
Nice for Pires to get off the mark, Clark to get another and for Fonz to do what he does best. Heskey, Reo, Walker and Wee Barry Bannan all getting 90 minutes was good, as was resting certain others, especially with ManUre to come next.

Well, I'll give it a whirl, but I've already been through me daily motions this morning.
-
Good result. No idea about the performance. But we'll be nice and fresh for Tuesday. Good to see Delf scoring again, he seems to have a fantastic goals per starts ratio.
Sounded like Pires had a good game. Also perhaps that we were a little sloppy at the back - though not as much as them
-
Sounded great (as great as it can with Laurel & Hardy commentating).
The players who came in did what was expected from them. Bannan seemed to run the game until the sending-off. Clakker involved constantly, defensively as well as going forward. Fonz and Pires linked-up well. Only Gabby and Heskey sounded quiet. Poor Baker - just after getting into the team. Sounded like NRC took control for the last twenty minutes when we had to be dogged. No late goals conceded which was great.
Haven't posted on a match thread so much in ages, and didn't have any footage of the game but enjoyed that all the same.
-
Anyone at home other than the top 6 Prem clubs or blues please. 2 wins from Wembley!! ;)
-
Well done lads, great to see Pires score.
-
Is Tuedays game televised ?
-
Coventry at home would be nice
-
Annual cup loss to Man Ure next...
-
Orient please
-
3 points in the bag (guess the crowd) WOOHOO
?
-
Oh, see Blose are playing the horrible Coventry... either at home would be nice.
-
Ger- no man u away is not on tv- sky are showing west brom live I think on tues.
-
What was the attendence?
Listened on the radio sounded comfortable, Red card killed the game, as they usually do
Were in the hat
-
Ger- no man u away is not on tv- sky are showing west brom live I think on tues.
might get the sky highlights at ten... or football first... shame really , I think Villa will give them a go ...
-
Great win, shame about the sending off but nice to see Pires score and play well. Happy to be in the draw before 3pm on the Saturday and can now enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Thanks Monsieur Houllier and the lads!
-
Coventry one up!
-
Just got in the car, really good performance, our build up play was excellent and we passed the ball well, thought the sending off was extremely harsh as he went for the ball with one leg, nice that we did'nt panic at the end too, anybody shit at home next please

I think they said 26000 but wasn't clear. What a good few weeks this had been for us - much better outlook now and exciting times ahead.
-

?
Guess the crowd. I put 25,745. Gets me 3 badly needed points.
-
Coventry 2 up
-
Blues 0-2 down so the day gets better!
-
Really chuffed with the result, and it would appear Houllier is really starting to get his ideas and style over to the players now. Pleased for the Fonz to get a goal, and Bannan sounded excellent on WM. Baker sounded unlucky, look forward to seeing it on the box later.
Cov 2 up against Blues too. Ouch.
Bradley in too, and all round what a bloody good January. Sunderland the only blip, which was silly in the way we lost it considering the chances we had too. GH too a lot of stick coming into Jan, and deserves a lot of credit for his handling of everything pretty much since.
-
Good to see all the dissension against Houllier is disappearing, now we have players fit and are getting results.
-
I've always rated that Robert Pires. You'll never win anything with kids. Experienced players are a must.
-
agree entirely Ozz. I think a lot of people jumped all over him for the start he made and simply would not give him the time needed to make the structural, philosophical and tactial changes he wanted to implement. We're certainly not out of the woods yet by any strech, but you can now see what he's starting to do. The players are playing better football, with more confidence and team spirit. We all wanted to see more squad rotation during the MON years, and not only are we getting it, but the players coming in are very competent indeed. And finally, the players we are now attracting to the club are exactly the type we all knew we could attract and wanted, and are not limited to the British Isles. That policy served us well, but it was so limiting and expensive. It's good to now have a manager with a keen eye on numerous markets.
-
Played very, very well.
Was concerned when I saw Pires starting, but he had a decent first half.
Very good stuff from Bannan and Clark, but everybody played well and we played some excellent stuff at times.
The biggest bonus is that Young, Downing, Dunne and Collins will be fresh for Tuesday.
Hats off to Gerard for being bold and making changes.
Blackburn were shockingly bad.
-
I thought there might be a few more but I suppose Blackburn at 1pm isn't to everyones tastes
-
Just back. Fucking freezing cold!
We did enough to win the game. Some good performances from Bannan, Fonz and Pires. The sending off off looked soft to me, a 50 50 ball that Baker won but the Blackburn bench rushed to the side of the pitch which gave the ref all he needed. Shame because up til then he was having a storming home debut. I'm liking the attacking fullbacks we have in Baker and Walker. Gives us another dimension.
Somebody shite in the next round like Blues at home please.
-
Anyone know if Gabby went off at half time because of an injury?
-
Bloody hell, that was a cold afternoon.
That was a very good performance all round. The young players excelled again and Pires had a solid outing. Baker's sending off looked a tad unlucky as it was a 50:50. I can only assume his studs were up. Clark was outstanding. Walker looked slightly off the pace in the 2nd half, but looks a class act. I hope we can sign him permanently. In the hat for round 5, very happy.
-
Just got back.
That's the coldest I've been at a football match in ages. The concrete steps of the Upper Trinity are the coldest material on earth.
Thought we were very good - Barry Bannan was absolutely superb. Who needs Charlie Adam when you've got someone with that range of passing.
Slightly iffy at the back at times, mostly self inflicted, Walker a bit careless at times, I thought, but it was pretty straightforward for us, really.
We played some very good passing football at times today, can definitely see what GH is trying to get us to do.
-
Atmosphere was odd. A bit like a game versus a lower division team but without the up-for-it-bonkers lower division fans on a special away-day.
Felt that some of Blackburn's marking was poor (first two goals).
Felt is was a good all round performance.
Baker's red card was completely deserved, and the booing of the recipient of that tackle was harsh.
Cringed at the "Houllier, give us a wave" chants.
-
That was bloody freezing!!
Bannan was very good, he always wants the ball & was full of energy.
Heskey didn't look interested today.
I thought GH made the right 2nd half changes at the right time.
NRC is such a limited player, I'm looking forward to Makoun getting in the team.
Pleased to be in the draw.
-
We played really well up to the red card, which killed the game and we then saw it out nicely.
The passing and movement of the midfield was excellent, with NRC covering nicely for Pires and Wee Barry. I like how Walker bombs on too.
It was never in doubt, even with the red card. Christ Blackeyeburn are poor.
Good to see us rotate and still keep the momentum up too.
-
Great game, we were in total control through out, even after the sending off.
Bannan was running the midfield, Pires was shit but overall a great game where we rested alot of key players.
-
This season must be the worst weather-wise in Villa Park memory. I can't remember a game where it hasn't been either freezing or rained.
-
In response to Russel Crowe, I was entertained. I really enjoyed that, the cold couldn't stop my enjoyment of that.
The Villa are back. Not that we've been away for longer than 12 week mind.
-
Yep, even Everton in August when the sun shone it was brass monkeys.
-
NRC is such a limited player, I'm looking forward to Makoun getting in the team.
I thought he played well today and that playing him in front of the defence is his best position. His passing and so on has improved greatly. Not sure Makoun will be up to replacing him just yet based on what I saw at Wigan.
Good performance today and we play some good football now. I thought NRC and Bannan were great. I do like Walker - a marauding fullback at last. The defence did fine and Clark will be a hell of a player. Carlos is playing really well at the moment too. The future is really bright and we hae a very good squad now.
-
Just about thawing out. Objective of getting into the draw for next round achieved comfortably against a very average Blackburn.
Thought everyone did well but Bannan deserves particular mention - highly mobile, lively and inventive. NRC was comfortable in midfield and Pires was OK - thought Downing would have offered more in that position but he came on for Gabby (not sure why - did he get a knock?). And the third goal was straight out of the Academy - great to see more quality kids coming through. Hats off to Sid et al
Thought the red card for Baker was a disgrace - didn't appear to be jumping in - maybe Hoilett pretending to have a triple fracture swayed the ref but he produced the card very quickly. Surprisingly Hoilett made a complete recovery and for the rest of the game you could hardly notice his broken leg at all. He wasn't the only Blackburn player pretending to be injured either - Andrews was just as bad.
Memorable chants from today - "ten men, we've only got ten men" swiftly followed by "ten fans, you've only got ten fans". And the "Houllier, Houllier gisawave" followed by boos when he clearly didn't understand what was being chanted - later rectified by translation by Gary McAllister.
Roll on tomorrow's draw
-
I've just read Houllier's programme notes (http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2279490,00.html) on Pravda:
Your vocal backing for the team in our most recent home game ... was incredible and we know we can rely on you again today.
He could have got a sneaky 110% reference in there, if he had wanted to.
-
Good performance and we won, not sure on sending off but I need to see it again and whilst Walker is very good going forward, defensively he is poor, his positioning is poor and no more back heels in our half please. I would worry him against a top side
-

Hey Bobby, what's the French for 'Triffic absolutely triffic?
-
I am pleased that we are through. I was worried when I arrived at VP and saw the line up.
Bannan is a little gem. He is going to be top class if he carrys on developing well.
Pires is rubbish but as class can be dispensed whilst standing still his goal was mark of class!
I watched Kyle Walker very carefully in the second half , today I had a seat in Witton Lane towards the Holte End , and I am not sure about him. Very indecisive and easily moved off the ball , takes up poor positions and very imobile in tight defencive situations. I really do not think he should start against Manu. Cuellar would be safer.
Shame about Baker but he will learn from this.
-
And all done without Dunne, Petrov, Makoun, Ash and Darren Bent (la, la, la, la, la, la, la la!)
-
Ger- no man u away is not on tv- sky are showing west brom live I think on tues.
Cheers.
Will have to make do with some dodgy stream that keeps freezing so.
-
Good performance from what was virtually a reserve side.
If you consider we did not select/start
Young (L) Collins Dunne Warnock
Young (A) Petrov Makoon Downing Allbrighton
Bent
Squad looks pretty strong.
Blackburn played almost thier first X1 and never looked a threat even when we had 10 men. Should have made it 4-1 as well.
Clark looks to have a bit of class. Walker great going forward. Baker comfortable till the rush of blood. Coker in control, Pires looked good in a system that suits him (where he doesn't have to run too much!)
Emile has benefitted from the rest. Delfounso enjoyed himself so did Gabby, (Salgado could cope with his pace) Wee Barry still looks like he should be playing for the U13s but he had a good game as well.
-
.........Wee Barry still looks like he should be playing for the U13s but he had a good game as well....
Was he one of the ones doing the half-time entertainment? ;)
-
Dear Blackburn
YOUR NIGHTMARE RETURNS
Love, Aston Villa
-
Decent performance considering who we had rested.
I thought Pires played his best game for us but was the weakest of the midfield 3. Reo Coker had a busy game, bits of quality.
Carlos was solid. Didn't get much from Delfoneuso out wide. Gabby fared slightly better but a shame he didn't get more runs at Selgado.
The real stand out performances for me were from Bannan and in particular Clark. Really hope we get to see these two, along with Albrighton, at the Villa for many years to come.
From where i was sat in the lower Holte I could see why the red card was given, thought it was two footed and looked like there was contact. Hoilet was their best player in a poor team, i'd be disappointed to finish beneath them this season.
-
great win, and lets hope for a cushy home draw
Thought Bannan was great today, always wants to be on the ball and has great vision
Funny moments : Holte singing Houllier give us a wave and someone on the bench having to tell Ged to wave
Also in North Stand lower (tunnel sidse) some comedy singers - they were ace with lots of new material
eg. to the tune of Bananarama's - "it aint what you do its the way that you do it"
Who needs Barry when you've got Barry Bannan
Who needs Barry when you've got Barry Bannan
Who needs Barry when you've got Barry Bannan
Ooooohhh Barry Bannan
repeat

This season must be the worst weather-wise in Villa Park memory. I can't remember a game where it hasn't been either freezing or rained.
True, even against West Ham on the opening game there was thunder and lightening.
I said at the game today, I havent been this cold at a game since away at Notts County in 1992!
-
We won. It was bloody cold. We played a very poor Blackburn Rovers team off the park. Bannan was quality. They're like the modern-day version of our run against ManUre, only with a lot more success for us. Let's hope for a repeat performance and result in the League fixture at the end of February.
I also got to shake Des Bremner's hand as I was forced to sell on Witton Lane instead of my usual spot on Trinity Road. Thanks, Dave!
-
Good. We do need a few people to start the Bent Thriller song though.
-
At this moment we are the highest placed team through to the 5th Round!

It felt like there were gale force winds on the opening day of the season. Just about thawing out now and regained the use of my fingers.
-
I'm very satisfied today, and for the 1st time I agree with the GH's choices too.
The main positives that I see, are:
- a comfortable win (ok, the opponnents were poor but we didn't underestimate them);
- a sharp rotation that consented to rest the players that had spent more until now;
- Cjeran Clark played as CB;
- two young, speed and attacking.minded full backs (not 2 CB) employed as full backs;
- Barry Bannan again in the starting XI;
- a decent performance from Pires;
- and Delfouneso that scored and had a good impact on the match, improving his self confidence.
Bright future! :)
-
Delighted to hear from those who were at the game about how well Bannan played. I always thought that if he came good he could be a real difference-maker at the top end of the league, we've lacked that craft to break down teams who come to defend for a while now. It would be great if Bannan could start to make the bullets for Bent et al to fire on a regular basis.
-
great result for a 'switch side'
we now have real competition for places-nice to see another young lad-shame he was sent off

I'm still freezing my cobs off a couple of hours after getting in! Against Valencia it was a pretty cold night as I recall even though it was the start of August. In fact the only 'warm' fixture I've attended this season was a pretty clement night against Rapid Vienna.
-
That was fun to watch. All goals at our end is always a bonus.
Thought Blackburn were bloody awful and we played rather well.
The early berating of Pires led me to say that he would score so I claim half his goal. He was very slow though. He had a chance of getting a shot away in the first half and took 3 steps around the ball before being tackled. He is poor.
Thought everyone played well today despite a weird call from Carlos just before they scored as he called for the ball out wide and then failed to clear it and Rovers eventually scored.
Crowdwatch - was OK despite the 26,000. The sending-off actually woke things up nicely. To the bloke who tried to start up the "Andy Gray M'lord" thing you were funny the first 3 times. The fact you then went on to shout "nigger" when a black player for Rovers received the ball sort of proved what a dick you sounded originally. General displeasure stopped him saying it again. Also - I think Blackburn have won something in the past 100 years chaps...
-
Professional performance, and the first game I can remember since West Ham where we practically had it sewn up ten minutes from time, instead of having to shit it until the whistle. Impressed with Clark, he's going to be some player - can play anywhere, scores goals, competes well, looks comfortable on the ball.
Great to see a Pires goal. Altogether now:
Grandad we love you,
Grandad we do,
Though you're nearly 48,
We still love you.
We'll draw the Blues at their place.
-
Our deliveries from corners was so much better today
-
Grandad we love you,

Amended and stolen.

Good to see Uncle Bob get a goal.
Someone shit please.
I thought we all did at some stage of the day?
-

No Pires wasn't 'shit' If you had the brain to watch the game properly he and Bannan linked the game very well in the first half - which basically set the win up by half-time. GET TOUR SELF DOWN TO SPECSAVERS!

GHou's post-match reaction from Pravda:
Gerard Houllier was thrilled to keep the "winning edge" against Blackburn in the FA Cup - and hailed the experience and youth of Robert Pires and Barry Bannan in midfield.
Houllier admits one of his aims was maintaining the momentum, following wins over Manchester City and Wigan - and the boss was delighted that his team delivered.
He pinpointed the performances of Pires and Bannan in dominating the central area in the fourth round clash.
He said: "One of our missions was to keep the winning edge and momentum.
"We played better in the first half. It was a different game after being down to 10 men. I am as proud of their efforts in the second half as in the first half because we had to show discipline and tactical adjustments to the situation.
"We kept a clean sheet when we were down to 10 men which is good. The commitment and passing has improved a lot.
"There was a combination of youth and experience in midfield. Robert played against Sheffield United and I think he is getting better and better. He will help.
"He still has the touch and the eye for the pass. He brings some fluency to the game with his technique.
"I was pleased by the reaction of the bench when he scored. That was very telling. The whole bench went up. They were very happy and proud for him.
"He is popular - the boys like him. He is a nice man. We have to understand that he hasn't got the legs that he once had. But he can still run.
"Barry is taking on board a few things. I am very pleased with him.
"I told him that instead of playing 100 miles per hour all the time, you can play 50 or 60 miles per hour and sometimes 120. But that's youth.
"If you play 50 miles per hour, you will be more comfortable in your skill and see things and probably start a good move and things like that. But at the same time, you don't want to curb that appetite, that generosity and that will to go forward."
Houllier thought the second half dismissal of Nathan Baker was harsh but revealed the club won't be appealing the decision.
He added: "It looked harsh from where I was but I can understand that the referee is in totally a different angle.
"He was thinking of feet off the ground but I don't think it was.
"The boy will learn. He didn't need to do that, particularly in the midfield. He was devastated. He has done well. It was his second game."
-
Three wins in a week with a different side each time. We have a squad!
Bannan had his best game for us, looked much more composed.
Well done Gerard.
-

I thought both teams looked like they were stuck in second gear for most of the match, felt sorry for the sendind off, I think the ref reacted to their whole bench running on to the touch line, Baker looks like another quality player coming through, he wants the ball and crossed well for the 3rd, he is a centre half playing out of position.
-
Good honest commentd from GH, he has really grown on me over the past few weeks. More explanation in those few words than in 4 years of MoN.
-
Fascinating about Bannan as well. He has been subbed off around the 60 minute mark in most games he's started, and that's always been after a very bright start to the game. That's probably what GH means with his comments about mph - that Bannan has tended to wear himself out unnecessarily. It's telling that he lasted the 90 today.
-
Good. We do need a few people to start the Bent Thriller song though.
which is?
-
Good work!
-
Good. We do need a few people to start the Bent Thriller song though.
which is?
It's Villa, Villa Night, and no-one's gonna save you from the Bent about to strike...
-
I was thinking today about our last few years in the early rounds in the cups or in Europe we would make a lot of changes, MON would play all the fringe players and some youth. Do you reckon they must have known whatever they did in those games he would still play his favourite 11 in the next match no matter what? Hw would only make changes in the league if a player was injured or suspended. That must be hard going for the fringe players.
-
Good and relatively comfortable win. Clark was the pick of the bunch for me, very impressive. GH got his rotation right and we look a much more together bunch than a few short weeks ago.
The only downer was the attendance; what a shame the FA Cup has become a shadow of its former self to so many.
-
Anyone know if Gabby went off at half time because of an injury?
In the warm up he stretched for a loose ball then started feeling his groin then had the physio do some stretching stuff to his legs, so I guess just to protect him. Played out of position again though.

I just mentioned on the Other Games thread but Fergie who has won everything in the game for the past 20 odd years is playing striker Michael Owen wide left midfield. It has been about as effective as playing Gabby has been for us so I expect a swap for Rooney to go into the that position as a sub.
-
The only downer was the attendance; what a shame the FA Cup has become a shadow of its former self to so many.
It is a great shame, blame the Champions League for that. I also think the FAC lost some of it's sparkle when it was moved away from Wembley for a few years, que sera sera were going to Cardiff didn't quite fit. Man United's business trip to Brazil a few years back didn't help either, the champions pulling out of the FA cup just made the tournament look 2nd rate. I hope we win it soon or there may not be an FA cup in 10 or 20 years time, I hate that it has been devalued in the way it has been.
-
Thought we were far the better team. Blackburn looked totally disinterested and if we'd kept 11 men on the pitch I think we would have scored a couple more second half.
Clark impresses me more and more every week, and I know it's not popular but Pires also had a good game, kept the ball well, started attacks and excellent goal. Probably starting in the Prem is well beyond him though. Crawley in the next round at home please.

Agree on the sending off and Baker in general. Seemed to be very popular from the off. I thought that we would have doubled the score in the second half until the red card and even then we had atleast 3 clear-cut chances.
-
3 really good goals there.
Clarks header didn't look easy.
Job very well done.
-
thought Pires apart from a superb goal did very well showed real class at times even if he needs more time than when he was younger. All round a good display looked easier than some Prem sides today.
Bring on Utd and our first team.
-
Sat right in front of Darren Bent and had a photo taken with him, which was nice. A good game. From where I was, the red card was harsh, but will have to give it a second viewing this evening. I thought Bannan was very good, man of the match for me. Did the game feel like a pre-season friendly to anybody else?
-
Great game especially as I have been overseas for 18 months, when I looked at the team and the formation I couldn't see us getting a result today but they really showed character and the confidence was flowing through the team after Pires's goal. He showed some great touches after a tough first half an hour but you can see his brain is way ahead of his legs, the fonz did well considering he was playing on the wing and NRC and Bannan worked out really well. It wasn't a sending off as it wasn't a nasty game and it was Baker's first challenge, it was high but their bench made the most of it... it was shame as he was having a great game. Let's hope we get Crawley at home in the cup draw tomorrow!
-
Definitely nothing wrong with that challenge after watching it on ITV, their bench got him sent off.
-
Thought both Baker's crosses for goals looked Class! People at the match today, how was his all round game, pre red card?? Will he make it as a left back?

I thought he looked good. Big lad, confident in possession, didn't seem fazed by the occasion.
He'll get over the sending off. It was right in front of us, and it was a definite red card, to be fair.
-
Wow, ITV really know how to give good football coverage don't they. 2 minutes of highlights that looked like they'd got from Iraq Goals or off someone in the crowd's phone. Makes you realise what a good job Sky do.
Thought from the angle they showed Baker's challenge that it wasn't a harsh decision. Would've been nice to see it from another angle though!
Saw Baker on Tuesday at Wigan and thought he looked a bit shaky, but considering he was making his debut and had to try and defend against 2 players at times he did OK. Put in good crosses by the looks of those highlights, so good to know we've got cover at left back if required.
-
No arguments from me with the sending off. Launched into it with both feet off the floor.
Itv's replays of our goals looked like they'd stuck one of their cameras in front of a tv!!!
-
good performance yesterday! shame about the red card as it ruined the second half, think we would of gone on and scored a couple more with 11 men! Thought NRC and Bannan played well in midfield and Clark was class the whole game. Hopefully get a good draw this afternoon!
-
Definitely nothing wrong with that challenge after watching it on ITV, their bench got him sent off.
Yes too a man they all went to the touchline and I think the ref overreacted.
-
Sat right in front of Darren Bent and had a photo taken with him, which was nice. A good game. From where I was, the red card was harsh, but will have to give it a second viewing this evening. I thought Bannan was very good, man of the match for me. Did the game feel like a pre-season friendly to anybody else?
Yes I said that to my son, like 2 teams stuck in second gear but our gear was better than theirs.
-
Crawley away would be great for me. Might be tricky to get a ticket though
-
I think we played well again Bannan played well as did Clark who i think was MOTM in my opinion it's just a shame Baker got a straight red but now let's keep our winning run going at OT on tuesday.

I was sitting in Witton Lane towards the Holte yesterday. So I observred Walker's defending and Baker's attacking with lot of attention. Worried about Walker being the RB solution. Baker is taller than I expected and quick. With Gabby tucking in closer to Heskey in the first half he had lot of room to go forward and get involved. He is composed prior to delivery into the box. All his crosses were well meaured and he was timing them right with no over elaboration. I think he will have tougher defensive games to test him in the future. Blackburn yeterday were prodominately left sided team on attack.
I thought the red card was correct and he will learn from that.
-
Walker was at fault for the first goal, other than that he had a decent half.
Second half he looked shaky, but he'll improve.
-
Impressed with Walker with most of his game but he did seem to get caught out a bit in the second half.
Watched the goals again on TV last night and it got me wondering why ITV felt the need to film the match via a mobile phone. Absolutely dreadful coverage again from that bunch of amateurs at ITV. They shouldn't be allowed anywhere near football in this country.

You're right.
The replays were particularly grainy.
Wish the BBC could have it back, ITV sport is laughable.

ITV's production values across all its channels and programmes, even when they're good (and that tends to be Granada programmes from the '80s), are an embarrassment to British broadcasting.
-
Decent performance from us. Pires was getting a lot of stick from some of the people sitting around me, they cheered when he scored then when back to booing him. I thought he had an average game but if you went by what the News of the World has said about him this morning you'd have thought Pele was on the pitch. Blackburn were awful , their passing dreadful and summed up by their freekick in the second half then went straight across the pitch into the path of Downing (i think it was) who set off on goal and forced a good save. ITV's coverage was awful - as to be expected - they didnt even show Blackburn hit the post or the chance i just mentioned.
Just a word on Blackburn's away following - it was the worst i've ever seen in 20 years of going to Villa Park - and i can remember them not bringing many the season they were defending champions. I only heard them cheer or sing once and that was only after they scored.
-
I think all PL clubs video all games and ITV used that recording and dubbed some fake commentary on it. I don't think ITV have any facilities of their own for capturing sports events. They probably use Sky, BBC Resources or other Agencies for that purpose.
-
Thought the ITV coverage was absolutely woeful in both quality and quantity. About 1 minute of highlights which omitted some other key incidents - their shot against the bar, Clark's goal line header clearance, Downing's break and shot followed by Robinson's save, Collins dispossessing Samba (?) just as he was about to shoot from 5 yards out amongst others.
The only thing I would say is that after the match I posted on here that I thought Baker's red card was a disgrace. Have to eat humble pie and say I think the ref got it right - I would have been calling for a red if it was the other way round. Still think Hoilett's over-reaction was uncalled for
-
what the fucks up with the ITV footage its useless when replays are being shown it looks like they are filming the video screen at the ground is that to save money!
I forgot my contact lenses when i went to villa yesterday, dont ask how i managed that but i did and i could still clearer than that shite on tv last night
-
Another annoying thing about the ITV coverage - if, like me, you're a bit sad in that I like to avoid knowing the scores of the other games before watching said 'highlights', why do they insist on not only constantly telling you other results as part of the live match commentary, but just to make sure they spoil your enjoyment they scroll them across the bottom of the screen!
-
ITV couldn't be arsed to send cameras to the ground and just hooked into the feed for the big screen/ exec boxes. The reason the replays looked grainy was because they used the same footage and just zoomed in. That is the difference between being funded from the license fee with no share holders and being funded by advertising revenue and having to pay shareholders. So lets hope most of our fans stop moaning about the license fee.

FLF used to be able to get that feed somehow i watched the the Blackburn carling cup game through it and a few others. It never has commentary or replays but is great for when there's no broadcast at VP. Shame the owner closed it down and ran off with everyone's subs. It was better than Villa$treams just for that alone. Shame, pretty much guaranteed to never miss a game at VP! If anyone know's how to still get it kindly let me in on it.

Thought decent game but bloody freezing
Thought Bannan and NRC were excellent
closely followed by Carlos and Clarke
Thought going forward Walker was great but struggled to defend space well
Definate sending off - was right in front of me and with both feet off he clattered him - just grateful that the guy was not seriously injured - at least with Dunne back Clarke can slip into that position with ease
Most pleasing thing for me was that we started that game with 5 acadamy players in the team and not one of them looked out of place
Bannan
Clark
Baker
Gabby
Fonz
If that was Arsenal /Spurzzz or United they would be having a wank fest
The future does indeed look very bright
