For anyone that might be interested to know - Juan Pablo Angel has joined LA Galaxy from New Your Red Bulls. I'm also hearing rumours that Carew might be ok his way here to LA as well.
Oh yippee... now he can be a lazy b*stard here as well. However, he should be in his element here. More - ahem - Gentlemens Establishments to the square mile than MacDonalds or Burger King.
-
Count yourself. We were linked with Robbie savage!! A few of us villa fans have season tickets for the whitecaps so looking forward to seeing jpa

Can you just imagine the kind of mischeif Big John would get up to in LA. You'd love to be his wing man.

Fear not...my letter of application for said position is already penned and waiting ;)

All the best Juampi. Still miss him to be honest. Be interesting to see how he links up with Beckham. I say to see, I mean 'to read' as I've never seen any sawker from the US league before.

Even Emile would have put this one away...

I looked at match report for MLS Cup Final expecting to see JPA in it. I found out he moved to local rivals LA Chivas. When did this happens and why ? I would though JPA and Sir David Beckham would be a partnership made in heaven.
-
I'd guess it might have something to do with the arrival of Robbie Keane.
-
Is there salary cap restriction to prevent Keane and Angel playing upfront together with Beckham in midfield ?
-
I think so, but the way they work it is a bit weird.
One salary cap for all sides and then another salary cap for star players.
But then some sides have two star players (like Marquez and Thierry Henry at NY Redbulls and Beckham and Keane at LA Galaxy) whilst other sides have none, so it doesn't seem entirely fair.

The correct answer - JPA was sacrificed to make space for Keane on the wage bill.
-
Saw him play when they come up to Vancouver. JPA didn't do anything and looked very average. Ignored our villa songs as well

Nice of him to recreate the last three years of his Villa career for you though!
-
He must be close to retirement now?
No surprised he didn't last long at Galaxy given they have Landon Donovan upfront and also brought in Keane.

It doesn't look like. He's absolutely banging the goals in for Chivas - 7 goals in 9 games.
It's such a shame. When you look back at his career stats he's been prolific in front of goal everywhere he's been, with one six year exception in the middle. Was he just not good enough for the Premier League or did he just not get the right service? Unfortunately, Wikipedia doesn't give offside stats for him, presumably due to lack of space!

He had a couple good seasons at the Villa, player of the year twice. He was also top scorer so far in the season he left.

I think that says more about the rest of the team under DOL to be honest.
-
Angel was average apart from that one season. His Villa career is 175 league games, 44 goals, 1 in 4.

This always confuses me, I can never work out this "one good season" people keep mentioning.
Is it 2001/02 when he scored 16? or or 2003/04 when he scored 23? please clarify.
-
I only use league stats so for me his one good season was 03/04, the only season at VP where he approached the 1 in 2 ratio that marks a decent striker.
Those that think he was some kind of superstriker never mention those seasons where he scored 1, 1, 7, 3, 4, which always confuses me.

He didn't get the service/he was too good for the rest of the team/his lad was ill/he was in the wrong hotel/we didn't send someone round to tuck him up every night. Whosever fault it was, nothing could ever be blamed on St Juampi of the Blessed Internet. Whatever happened to Ryu?

Please accept my sincere apologies for pointing out that JPA was very average, I really didn't realise it would upset you so much.

Sorry I didnt realise cup goals didnt count, guess you're in denial of our 7 FA Cups and 5 League Cups as well then. What about Europe? Did we win the European Cup in your book?
besides 12 league goals in 29 games in his 2nd best season isnt exactly a million miles off your 1 in 2 milestone of not to be considered a good season anyway.
-
I only use the league as a gauge as cup games can be against anyone. For example, a player could score 4 in a LC 2nd rd 8-0 win against Torquay but fail to score in the next 4 rounds. He has a good goals to games ratio there (4 in 5) but it doesn't take into consideration the opposition. Or it could be a couple of goals against Manure's reserves in the 3rd round. Same principal.
To me the league ratio is a much better indicator, especially when covering someone like JPA who was here for 6 years. I liked JPA, he struck me as a credit to the club off the pitch. I just think he was overrated on it. 1 in 4 just doesn't cut it for me for a player who cost £9.5million a decade ago. It's my opinion and i'm not sure why it seems to offend people.

Latest tweet from JPA - he still loves us
About to watch Aston Villa Vs Stoke!! Common Villa, need those 3 points

I wasnt offended, i just hate the theory some people have that he was only good for one season - when he quite blatantly wasnt. Since I've started following football in the early 80s only one player - Dwight Yorke has scored more goals than him whilst playing for us yet in some peoples eyes his time here was useless, or "only good for one season". (Gabby only 2 off now though)
Im not saying hes the greatest player to ever play for us, but some Villa fans genuinely think he was a complete waste.

Saw him play over here for New York against the locals. JPA's hair was perfect, his game not so much.
