Dalian, Ashley or John? (http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2264919,00.html)

Atkinson. The best goal and a celebration that is still talked about 20 odd years later. Carews will always be good as it was against THEM and the euphoria with Ashleys goal will saty with me for a long time. But Atkinson s is the best

Great summary. Young just edges it for me (well, it would, wouldn't it!).

I thought this was about goal celebration rather than best goal?
Carew's for me. A bit of class.
Favourite will always be Andy Gray's two arm salute to the Holte.
Most understated: Gordon Cowans.
-
Yes, it is the celebration, not the actual goal itself.

Tommy Johnson finger on chin >>>>>
-
Morley at Everton with Mortimer clapping.
-
Just for the celebration I would go:
1. Atkinson
2. Carew
3. Young
However for the one that gives me the best feeling it's Young. I watched it in a pub in Leicester with a couple of mates and lots of neutrals. There was a Toffee in there, we didn't exchange words but there were plenty of knowing looks during the game. When it went 2-2 he made a point of catching my eye and giving me a very smug smile before going to the bar to order a celebratory drink. It hurt bad, it felt like a loss and he'd rubbed it in. Then we scored, he shouted the barman who had an empty glass in hand, cancelled his order and buggered off. Meanwhile I was jumping around like a mad man. That one will last for a *very* long time!

Yeah I did mean best celebration..just it happened to be the best goal as well! If I'd have been the bloke with the umbrella every room of my house would have that in a huge frame on the wall. Its almost Iconic!!
The best/worst/funniest/most outrageous celebration that Cowans reminds me of is when he got kicked into the net after scoring the penalty against barcelona in the Super Cup. Dont get me wrong I did nt find it funny at the time!!

I know what you mean. We watched it in Aldridge Cricket club which is very Villa in the main and there were two Everton Fans (at the front) who you can imagine went a bit crazy when they equalised ( to the point that its good its a friendly club!)
You can only imagine what happened about a minute later!! They soon left too funnily enough

Dalian's goal as it always brings back that warm fuzzy feeling that the season brought us, ggrrr I hate Man ure!
I loved the manner of Ashley's goal, the everton fans must have been pig sick after that!
-
I would go with the Atkinson's goal followed by Ashley's goal then Carew's in third but Dalian's goal for me.
-
Landslide.
-
Yekini in the World Cup 1994. Demented.
Tardelli in 1982.
Tony Morley v Everton for us.
-
I love Ashley's (and Gabby's for that matter celebrations). Especially when they're infront of opposition fans and they do just enough to wind the fuckers up without getting booked.
Such good wind up merchants. Gabby especially as he's detested by opposition fans.
-
I would like to vote Atkinson but I don't have any memory of it so that would be cheating.
I'm going for Ashley's for the sheer exhileration. That result will stay with me for a very long time.
-
Didn't think Dalian's was that good. Too understated. And the 'Well that's me' raising of the eyebrows is a bit crappy. Along the same lines as Bentley scoring for Blackburn and running arouns shouting something like, That's What I'm on About'. Or something like that. Its all a bit too desperate to prove that those type of goals are the usual for such a skillful player when they're usually just a one-off that lead to disappointment.

i was there that day, i was hanging off yer man with the umbrella i see him still regulaly in the cap @ gown and we have a laugh about the whole of villa shouting at Dalian to pass, pass pass man u fool, no hang on go on ! go on son, no no yes yes yeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssss lmao what a celebration, it cheered us right up as it was proper pissing it down and Crystal palace's stand was wide open ohhh man what a goal as well ;D
-
For the goal Atkinson all life.
For the celebration BJ.
-
You just can't beat a celebration BJ
-
Tony Morley's celebration where he seems to go mad at Ron Saunders and rages at the bench...who was that against? That's the one for me.
Looking at Atkinson's goal once more, Umbrella Man doesn't half look like a long haired version of Randy Lerner...was our Chairman a young, happy-go-lucky Villa supporting student at this time?

Not my favourite, but Atkinson's was quality for more than just his reaction. The goal itself was goal of the decade, but the bloke who decided yep, quality goal, and now I need to keep young Dalian dry makes it.
-
Before seeing the options and having seen the question Dalian came to mind immediately. So for me it's Atkinson at Wimbledon.
-
They all kind of get lost in the heat of a derby win but I always enjoy Gabby's celebrations following his inevitable goals against the rags. From the thumbs pointing to his name/skipping combo in '07 to the cool-as-you-like cupped hands behind his ears in the recent quarter-final, you can tell he likes winding them up as much as we all do.
-
I actually really hate the "hands cupped behind the ears" or the "shhh" gesture, especially when it's done in front of our own supporters!
It's a bit shit.

I don't remember us ever playing Tamworth.

1/11/1985
Birmingham Senior Cup
Tamworth 2-1 Aston Villa
Maddocks and Livingstone scored for Tamworth
Att: 1621

That cupped-ear celebration from Livingstone really pissed me off.
-
That cupped-ear celebration from Livingstone really pissed me off.
You heartless bastard, everyone knows that Livingstone had a genetic condition which meant he was born with no ears.
-
Tommy Johnson finger on chin >>>>>
Don't forget the forward roll
-
Tough one, Carew's was good because it was against the shit.
Atkinson's was good, the guy with the umbrella always cracks me up and I'll always love that goal.
I think i'll go for Young's simple reason is the celebration for me & him I remember going absolutely apeshit with a complete stranger was really funny, Especially after the game going to 2-2, I was buzzing for days after that.
-
i had to vote for Atkinsons, but the celebration at the sty later today by JC will do
-
Carew. And I'd like him to repeat it today with a bemused looking blose ball boy.
