Title: Confetti Display @ Sheff Utd
Post by: Brigada1874 on January 12, 2011, 12:22:14 PM
Just a big thanks to all who participated, Below are posted a few pics and a video of what is really our first display as such. We did have our group banner and 7 large flags rejected by the Stewards at Brammall Lane do to fire safety in a non-smoking stadium ::)

Once again thanks for the help of the fans around us and hopefully the next display will be bigger and better!

Can you get them fire-proofed?  Think they give you a cerificate to say they're safe if you do it.

Looks good though.  Keep up the progress

Cheers!

We are looking into fire proofing the fabrics, but it is costly and raising money is a bit of a problem as we only have badges for sale at the moment and they have slowed down now! So if anyone knows of a company that does fireproofing and might be able to do us a deal please get in touch!

We are always on the look out for an artistic Villa fans out there who might be able to help with the design and production of banners/displays, again please get in touch!

Well done lads, good to see positivity like this.

I remember the balloons back in the day, always a great sight at away grounds.

I like the confetti approach, and it is relatively cheap to get lots of claret and blue paper. It's also easy to sneak into a lot of the grounds. I think if every fan took two hand fuls of confetti to every game it would would look rather good.

Littering another team's stadium is not something I agree with.

What's the point ?

Sorry you don't agree with it.

To bring a bit of colour and fun to the terrace.

Same here, its wastes valuable energy that could be used smashing up the toilet block.

This has completely passed me by ... and I was in the Upper tier at Bramall Lane. Anyone care to summarise what this is all about.
And, yes, in the day the balloon era was fantastic at its height.

We handed out 200+ bags of confetti which were thrown into the air as the teams emerged, next we'll be looking at much larger amount (but that's for a later date!)

Yeah balloons look good but cost! Hopefully in future we can do a display with balloons.

Great stuff, both the positivity and making an effort. Every congratulation for this. When the flags and banners are up and running, does it mean however that we won't be able to slag the bindippers off for their their own? The only downside as far as I can see!

Nope.

I don't see the point in deliberately scattering rubbish around a football ground just for a few seconds of going "wow..... look at that confetti"

It doesn't do anyone any harm throwing confetti and balloons about just creates an atmosphere for the fans.

Me and Alex Alex Cropley tried something similar at Loftus Road many many years ago ( last game of the season, mass Villa fans' conga on the pitch, crossbars snapped in half etc).

We were in the QPR end and had pockets full of claret and blue confetti to chuck as the players walked out. Well, it was't confetti, you couldn't get claret and blue confetti in those days, we used a hole punch and spent days before the game punching little dots out of pieces of claret and blue cardboard.

Any road up, the players walked out, we got our "confetti" out, chucked it in the air just as El Nino piped up and blew the fucking lot over the roof of the stand before a single dot made it to the pitch......

I wish that bog-roll throwing was still allowed. Clean bog roll, of course. Would look fantastic

;D Luckily the wind conditions were right for us on Saturday!

Ours was homemade as well, one of the lads still has the blisters to prove it!

Wouldn't bother with handing out balloons as when the club tried to reintroducd it 2 years ago i took 200 claret and blue balloons to VP and handed them out around my seat in the Trinity Road only about 30 of them were blown up.  Think the fuckers just pocketed them for the kids or something.

When was it banned?

I remember people doing until about 1998 or so.

We got in loads of streamers at the Sty for the LC game with no bother, just people didn't throw them at the right time.

I look a load of confetti to that game.  I'd spent hours making it from purple, blue and white paper and put into individual bags to hand out.  Got through the turnstile only for one of their meat-head security blokes to ask what was in the bag.  I showed him - and he promptly confiscated it saying that under the new Football Ground Regulations it was an offence to throw things in a stadium.

Never liked QPR since.

I chucked a bog roll once - at Stockport.

Trouble is it had got wet in the rain so didn't unfurl in flight - just flew past a couple of players like a soggy brick.

A woman in front of me turned round and proper told me off as well, which was embarrassing.

I used to rip up all the left-over tickets in my season ticket book at the end of the season, usually left over from cup ties we failed to qualify for, and make them into confetti for our last home game.

You can't do it with the season cards. Bloody Randy Lerner has ruined this club...
