Nice one Dave!
-
Top man Dave !!
-
Well done Dave.
-
Good job Sir!
-
Great stuff, that did make me laugh! Top man.
-
Our very own 'Super Hero'. Well done dave.
Is the thief still at large?
-
Well done Dave. Last away day of the season we should all go as you. Do you have an actual superhero suit?
-
Well, I've run quite a few marathons including London five times but nothing like this has ever happened!
Well done Dave, I would have done the same - got into a huge hoe down a few years ago with a bunch of 16 year old school kids throwing stones at cygnets on our local canal as I was running down it. They refused to stop and thought they could just outrun me when I decided to make a citizen's arrest. That was their biggest mistake and I managed to hang onto three of them until the police arrived. Earned me a piece in the local paper and a thank you from the RSPB! Oh, and a visit to Accident and Emergency with some nasty cuts to my mouth and face...
-
This made me laugh
“It was something like out of Only Fools and Horses and I’m just glad my brother had caught up with me by then and threw a can of strongbow off the thief’s head, which stunned him.”
-
great story, with a happy ending,
wonder if strongbow will be willing to give you a few free cans for the good publicity, worth a try
-
Dave, well done. Are you now doing to wear a claret and blue Super Hero outfit to games? My suggestion is going with claret underpants on the outside, although you'll a bunch of moaners on here saying that Villa should always play in white shorts. Also, maybe your brother could play you're trusty sidekick "Strongbow", and have a can launcher as his weapon.

I bet he was stunned, what a waste of cider.

Anyone see the Villa fan in the Thunderbirds outfit behind the goal on Saturday. Perhaps that was Dave?
-
Marvellous, especially the bit where your brother twatted him with a can of Strongbow.
-
Wonderful story, Dave. Made my day.
-

I think that's the best thing I've ever read.
-
Outstanding, Dave.
I salute you and your cider hurling kin.
-
Brilliant Dave although I imagine when he pulled the knife you weren't thinking it was such a great idea.
When The Mercury run the story it will be "Villa thug attacks shopper".

-
Well done Dave.
-
Well done Dave i hope the can of cider put him in A&E.
-
Excellent stuff.
And unusual too.
You never normally get a head on cider.
-
There is justice in this world after all! Great work, well done!
-
Nice one Dave great story
-
Top man Dave.
-
Nice one Dave - more 'bottle' than me that's for sure. Let's hope said thug doesn't stumble onto this thread and do you for ABH! ;)
-
Bloody Cider always gives me a headache as well.
-
and has hopefully given the recipient one!
-
Only just seen this. Superheroes: Marathonman and Ciderboy.
-
YES I can see it now
Marathon man:"C'mon Ciderboy ,let's gird our loins to fight injustice wherever i can chase it down!"
Ciderboy: "ah my head,I really need a piss, this shit goes straight through me"
-
Well done Dave, I applaud your efforts. Strongbow cans will be issued to all police officers to replace pepper spray.
-
Nice one, Dave and brother.
-
Fair play.
Wasn't there and Only Fools and Horses sketch where something similar happens with Rodney?
-
Fair play to ya sir any chance you can chase gerrard out of villa all the best
-
Welll done Dave, great story... a can of cider around the head has gotta hurt.
-
It's Bow Time.
-
Well done Dave.
Has the scumbag put in his claim for compensation against you for the injuries he received?!
-
Most Strongbow drinkers seem to have a bow and arrow on them. Shame your brother didnt ....
Full respect to you ...
-
well done to you and your brother!
-
Brilliant Dave. I like your maths as well! Sadly in football terms you and your brother would have been sent off for retaliation!
-
Cracking stuff, Dave.
-
Cider always gives you a bad head.
Nice work fella
-
double post sorry
-
Haha, that's brilliant! Well played.
-
Nice one, DBTW, a true have-a-go hero.
-

Yep, I saw that! Somehow 'international rescue' has a ring of irony about it right now!
Anyhoo, well done that man! Nice one, Dave. Good to know that there are still some decent upstanding folk about...and Villa fans, to boot.
-
Respect is due.
Ans well done to your brother for discovering the proper use for a can of Strongbow.
-
Nice one Dave, you dow mess with us yam-yams.
-
At the risk of sounding repetitive, well done.
-
Well done, Did they get him?
-
I have found these replies very amusing, many thanks. I'm not sure if he was caught or not, I left the scene to go for a few pints before the match after the old guy got his stuff back.
To be honest it was all kind of strange, initially we just started running and didn't know why, but when we realised adrenaline kicked in and there was no way he was getting away. My parents were burgled a few years ago and this was a small chance to get one of them. When I got to him, and he pulled the knife out, I absolutely cacked myself. When he ran at me with it I ran away quicker than when I was chasing him!
We returned the stuff to the old guy who was quite shaken to be honest, he was with some Sheffield Utd fans who were taking care of him so we went and enjoyed the game.
-
A friend of mine who lives in Sheffield had her phone stolen at knife point on Friday, since reading this it's made me wonder if the same guy had anything to do with it.
-
Well done, Dave.
-
Fantastic.
-
For someone who is meant to be 31 though you look a hell of a lot older! ;)
-
Top man Dave.
Karma for this good deed worked for us as well!
Do you think you can hang around Bullring on Saturday and repeat the feat and we reap the benefit again on Sunday?
-
Top work fella
-
You should get featured in the national tabloid press:
STEAL-CITY ROGUE DONE BY IN-CIDER TRAINING
-
Excellent stuff. but is Dave Bytheway a made up name? if not it's a cracker. 'Oi Gary', 'It's Dave by the way'.
-
Just read this Dave cracking story and well done.
-
Well done both of you. Superb.
-
Good job fella. Reminds me of working at Wickes - Minworth; someone nicked a shower, I chased him across the car park at which point he pulled the metal rail from the box, shouted Fu*@king come on then - I made a hasty retreat back to the shop!
-
How come the hero of the story isn't actually named? brother Bytheway is where its at.
-
Bytheway? Is that your real surname lol?
Good job on chasing down that criminal and good luck on your future marathons... I know some marathon runners myself, you've gotta be very tough mentally and physically.
-
Dave, you are a true legend. But really your surname is Bytheway? It's not less fanatstic, is it? ;)
-
Brilliant story, Davve. Well done.
I presume you're seeing someone for therapy re committing to such outrageous endurance pursuits? ;D
Good luck - and are you setting up an internet fund-raising site for your Phoenix Nights? I'll sponsor you.
-
Howdy once more....my surname actually IS Bytheway, and stick is something i've become very used to during my mere 31 years.
I do have a website set up if anyone wants to donate, it's
http://www.justgiving.com/Phoenix-Challenge
All help appreciated.
