Looks like a good team. I'm guessing Fab needs a rest after coming in for his first game back and that Hesk is injured.

It's also good that City have rested Tevez.

I still think we shall lose this one but I'm slightly more confident. Just 3-0 City then.

As every game I spend on match threads tends to end in defeat I shall now log off and go into hiding hoping for a result.

I'd have liked to have seen that team against Spurs. However, this lot will be too much for us today. We're probably due a huge chunk of luck, if we get it, and we get a draw, that'll be a good result.

No chance Carew will play again - or at least I highly doubt it!

Like the team put out, and like that GH rotates for certain games. When he gets it right with the personel he wants we will be a good side.

The end of an era.... I loved Carew but it looks like he's reached the end of the villa road.

I'm happy with that team selection. We look more solid lined up like that.

Ever the optimist, while I like the look of our team I still can't shake the feeling that we're going to get an absolute whupping.

Hmmm... We'll need to be careful with Silva and Johnson but from our perspective that team is not bad, not bad at all. How long before Balotelli gets booked? Five minutes? Hopefully he'll get sent off before he can score.

Osbourne replaces Hogg on the bench

Dan AVFC: Apologies for the confusion over Villa's subs by the way. We were led to believe Hogg was on the bench, Man City's official team sheet says Osbourne but it is Hogg who is warming up on the pitch! We're waiting on absolute confirmation!

The team I wanted, thought we might need Bannan because, if we are going to play a counter-attacking 4-2-3-1, Bannan is very good at the release ball to Gabby. Our tactics today look to be a bit like Germany's in the World Cup. NRC or Petrov also really needs to watch the inside-right channel, because I've had nightmares about Johnson ripping Warnock to shreds. Also, does anyone in the squad speak Italian? If so, we should be sledging Balotelli as much as possible ("do you miss Mamma" etc).
Title: Re: Manchester City v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Toronto Villa on December 28, 2010, 02:50:34 PM
glad to see NRC is fit and starting. There was a lot of questions this week as to why Delph played ahead of NRC vs Spurs. GH had said during his pre-game interview that NRC was close, so maybe Delph was that little bit ahead by Sunday. Right now we need the combined experience of NRC and Stan with Bannan being the creator in the absence of Ash. What we really need to see is a re-energized Gabby getting on the end of crosses from our wingers. We can do this but we have to start to believe.

I've been preaching calm and giving GH a chance, but if anything, as the injured players have slowly returned, we've actually been getting worse.

This is going to go to at least 4-0 today, and the situation is going to get very sticky indeed.

To make it worse, Fulham are 2-0 up.

It will be tight, but we won't go down I am sure... ish.

We need a big overhaul or to play to the strengths of some of the shit that Martin O'Neill bought, ie lump it long and hope for the best.

i have been behind houllier until this point , but we are seriously bad , there seems a divide in the squad and he seems to be unable to motivate the players .

the decision to bring gary mcallister as coach was utterly inept- a complete failure in every coaching job he has done and im afraid randy needs to show some balls and admit he has made a mistake with this appointment .

i accept i was wrong in believing houllier would do a good job but now we need to act fast , we dont want another window with no manager- jol is available , go and get him randy or watch your investmest in our club go down the pan completely!

Feel embarrassed for our lot, they are professional footballers who have clearly been mismanaged on the training field and in the press by their inspirational gaffer

We can't keep blaming MoN - if anything Houllier is even more inept for thinking he could make the squad he inherited play like Arse play - we can't simple as - and the players know it which is why they take the field with their heads down.

Sorry - forget the window, who will we attract that will make much difference - write the season off get rid of GH/GM NOW, before Chelsea as the result there is already inevitable - bring in Jol (or hand it back to KM and Sid until the summer), i'll do it if nobody wants to - just get rid of Houllier

it's also adding to MON's stock that he is some sort of miracle worker able to get the most out of what he had or acquired, irrespective of what he paid and was paying in wages. I want to give GH every chance in the world to succeed, and the available options are horrific to contemplate. But there has to be some forward momentum and right now we are shipping goals like the club has already accepted the inevitable.

I am seeing alarming similarties between Villa this season and the Newcastle team the season they went down, there is a poison at the club whether this is the manager or the players, its all wrong they are not playing for each other and there is no fight for the cause. So many players just look like they want out and the confidence of the younger lads is being effected because of it.

I think the reality is that the management have made a terrible terrible decision in appointing GH, as well as a terrible terrible decision in giving MON so great a free reign which (let us never forget) left us in the sh** in the first place. There is simply no way in a million years that they will give GH the bullet no matter what the consequence for us is, as it will simply make our management look utterly incompetent at running the club. GH is here until at least this summer no matter how bad it could get for us.

Its not so much about what he can add in the transfer window that worries me.
Adding a couple of players may help technically, but is their the will from the rest of them to play for him beyond that...

This game show the quality of game we have so far. The alone striker is not enough all the pressure are on our back. 5 midfielders are not cove with the wing attacking that City use.

Drop one midfield and put 1 up front.

On paper this team is miles better than the previous two that got relegated. Unfortunately the way we are playing is just so similar to those teams. We simply look beaten before we start and lack any passion or pride. This is not far off the full team and at the moment are there 3 worse teams in the premiership?

What a shit Christmas.

Defeat to Spurs, humiliation at Man City, worse to come at Chelsea and the Doctor Who Christmas special was an incomprehensible pile of shit.

The Royle Family was pretty good though.

Big decision to be made by the board - change now and give somebody else the window to change things, or trust GH with millions.

the third goal was a disgrace, we allowed them to walk the ball into the net, a sure sign that the players are NOT behind the manager.

Does Randy have the balls to admit the board got it wrong ? Hopefully he does or things will get far worse including millions of pounds wasted on poor signings.

3 dodgy goals!!

But my god we have been shocking.   I have been watching the defence and we are not picking men up, marking space, not men.   Warnock should be taken off.

GH will take us down.   Come on Randy,  make the call before he wastes your money.

Unfortunately, I agree.

it looks clear as day that the players do not - for whatever reason - want to play for this manager. Whether it is him, or GM, I don't know, but they clearly don't want any part of it.

It isn't just the performances, either, there have been the myriad of injuries (I know it's hard to fake a cruciate, for example, but the sicknesses, too), and the arguments and fallings out, it looks like there's something wrong.

Several posters on here thought that GH ha picked the best team from the players available - it looks like those players are just not good enough.

We are playing a team that has had millions and millions spent on it - and they have very much had the 'rub of the green' in the first half.

My worries are the lack of passion shown by the players and management - it looks like GH has lost the dressing room (however this is not helped by the current first team squad including the biggest number of wankers since Hodge was here- Dunne, Ireland, Beye, Warnock, Downing all cause trouble down there).

Time for Randy to stick or twist - if he sacks GH and replaces him immediately we will have had 4 managers in 5 months - shambles.

Maybe they will take pity on us and let us bring on Barry and Milner for the second half.

we have to laugh else we'll cry - this is very good

Feel embarrassed for our lot, they are professional footballers who have clearly been mismanaged on the training field and in the press by their inspirational gaffer

This is the squad (plus the rather good midfielder on City's bench (not the fat one) that pushed for top 4 in last few seasons.

Off to shout at one of the kids for no apparent reason

We need new players. Not one minute before the window closes, but one minute past midnight on Jan 1. None of the MON usual speculation throughout all of Jan and then sign no one. have them lined up now and playing at the latest against Sunderland.otherwise what is the point of GH, he supposed to know these things/players.

otherwise we're dead in the water, we wont go down but we'll be years behind again.

Agreed, but last season they finished a good 2nd place despite having a team containing Suarez and Pantellic and more money available than the rest of the Eredivisie put together. This season they were lying in 4th spot when he got the boot and had lost at home to ADO and away to NEC. Plus he was not on speaking terms with his own assistant.
He's not the answer and no matter how bad it gets right now I can't see any change until the summer.

I'm sitting here in the Colin Bell stand with the Man City mate I've come with.  If it wasn't for that fact I'd now be heading home.

This is going to make the Newcastle defeat look like a narrow loss.  We will have the worst goal difference in the division and I've no idea where are next win is coming from.

We are shit - and for all the talk of when we get the injured players back, they coming back and we're getting worse.

Houllier needs to go. Go before he wastes money and gets the sack come March in any event.  I'd take Alladyce now, anyone who might give these players a lift, because make no mistake, at present we're going down.

We had a promising bunch of young players coming through, when things are not going well they need to come out of the firing line, but because of the shit 'performances' of likes of Warcock and Dunne it hasn't been possible. Houllier is destroying the confidence of the youngsters.

We are truly truly woeful, no leadership, no passion, little commitment on or off the pitch and we're certainly not 'entertaining'. I was prepared to give him the transfer the window to see things improve - at the moment him and Gary Mac can fuck off, because this is shit...it will be interesting to hear the fans in the 2nd half that have endured this rubbish.

No and Houllier's record so far is worse than McNeills was. This is a complete disgrace with the squad we have.

Lerner is still just about in credit with us.
But, with this appointment, that credit is rapidly running out.
To be in a relegation scrap so soon after the 'bright future' fanfare is just unbelieveable.
He must realise that he has made a mistake and be big enough to make the decision that GH must go now, while there is time to save the situation.
I don't buy into this 'Houlllier needs a transfer window' bollox. However much he is given will not be enough if we are already down amongst the dead men. GH has not shown IN ANY WAY  that he is able to improve the team, the club, the players or our situation. I have no confidence that if he signed Messi,Gerrard and Drogba that he could save us from being relegated.
Houllier must go after todays game, for the sake of the club, he has to go.

We had a watertight back 4 under O'Neill using mainly Warnock, Dunne, Collins, Cuellar and Young.

Nothing has changed here (and it's been an area where we've had fewest injuries), yet they are fucking clueless under GH/KMac?!

This can only be down to management in my view - Poor coaching/tactics or just the fact that he has lost the players.

Fuck! 4 -nil!  :(

Essential information for Scunthorpe Utd:

There is one pub right at the entrance to the ground called 'The Old Farmhouse', which as Bryan Woods informs me 'This pub welcomes all fans but no colours are allowed'. There is another pub near the ground called the Berkeley, a favourite haunt for away supporters. To find this Sam Smiths pub go past the ground (or park there first) and follow the main road towards Scunthorpe and it is on the left hand corner of the first roundabout you reach. On my last visit this 1930's/40's art deco pub/hotel had a pleasant mixture of home and away supporters and served good beer in a comfortable atmosphere. The only draw back was that it seemed that you could only park in their car park if you were staying at the hotel, as there was an automated barrier across its entrance.

If coming by train, then the Honest Lawyer on Oswald Road is well worth a visit. Although a modern pub inside, it has been listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and has a number of beers on offer. Also on Oswald Road is the Blue Bell which is a Wetherspoons outlet.

Across the road from the ground there is a Retail Park with a number of eating outlets such as a KFC & McDonalds

How have we become so inept, so quickly? You can point at the manager as much as you want but where are the players in all of this? Who is going to stand up and be counted? Who is going to be a leader and guide us through this? The same players are at Villa with the exception of Milner that were there under MON. A team that finished 6th last year and nearly got to two cup finals. It beggars belief that the same set of players are so fucked off with everything that they've sold out.

IS PLAYING PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL AND GIVING YOUR ALL FOR ASTON VILLA REALLY THAT BAD?
