Does anyone know why we have our own song like most other clubs including the scum with kro
-
We have. It's "feed the Hare and he will score." Unfortunately he has left.
-
I thought it was "shit support ma'lord"?
-
One "Insert Player's name here", there's only one...
-
Not being funny but why do we need one? If we do have one then it needs to be as corny as they come, something which you'd be embarrassed to be associated with in any normal situation but which you and 40,000 others can lose yourself on for a few fleeting moments. There is only one answer and I've suggested this before but its got be Rolf Harris and two little boys. Nurse pass the crack pipe.....
-
yeh we do. It's Villa, Villa, Villa, Villa, Villaaaaa.....repeat and sing ad nauseum
-
Why worry about an anthem what we need is a team and a bloody good manager
-
John Cage's 4'33"

Very good.

We do, its called 'The Bells Are Ringing'. For some reason, its not sung any more. It was great singing it in the 80's at away grounds.

We do still try and sing it, but as it doesn't contain any reference to Birmingham City nobody tends to join in.
-
I've been going to the Villa since 1988 and I don't know the words. Therein lies the problem.
-
One version:
The bells are ringing for the claret and blue,
The fans are singing for the claret and blue,
Everybody is knowing,
To the Villa we are going,
Cause the Villa are showing,
We're the best in the land.
BEST IN THE LAND!!
-
I presume then that that will be followed by postings containing slight variations?

Shouldnt do. Legions version is the only one ive ever heard and sang.
-
Possibly. I don't know of one definitive version, i.e. replace the first Villa with Holte End.
-
Bells Are Ringing is a great song, I've only heard it a couple of times though.
Villa to Amazing Grace when done properly is magical.
-
We don't need an anthem. We need a Power Ballad.
As the players walk out, imagine James Collins' bald head, full screen and starting at the camera, weeping as he mimes:
It's been four months and eighteen days,
Since you took your ball away
Since you been gone we can't sign whoever you want
Pay as much as whatever you choose
Waste forty grand a week on Newcastle reserves
But nothing
etc., etc.,
-
What about a stirring soundtrack:
:
-
TFAUSM
-
TFAUSM
Has to be.
-
I always sang ;
"Everybody is going and the Villa are showing and the villa are showing they're the best in the land"
I've never really had an ear for music so Legion's version may well be right, but no fucker sings it anyway.
-
I still like the idea of 3 little birds by Bob.
-
We used to have an anthem in the late 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. It went like this:
My eyes have seen the glory of the Villa win the cup,
Seven times we've won it no one else can catch us up,
We are the boys in claret and blue,
We are the chosen few,
And the Villa go marching on on on......
Trouble is we've been so crap in the F.A cup since1957 that the song became redundant in the late 80s.
-
HolteEnders in the sky gives me goosebumps when I hear it. It's pretty distinctive too.
-
True. Do the fans in the North Stand sing it too?
-
As Barny is a Villa fan we should sing one of Napalm Death's ballads.

There's a slightly more moden variation of that I've heard:
My eyes have seen the glory of the Villa win the Cup,
A magic night in Rotterdam when Dennis picked it up...
-
Last time we won the FA Cup we sang Keep Right On outside Wembley. Can't see it catching on again.
-
-
How about 'Houllier Out'?
To any tune you wish
-
The Bells Are Ringing should be our anthem but rarely gets an airing which is a great pity.
There was a song sung to the tune of Abide With Me in the mid-70's which I haven't heard for donkeys years. I don't know the words but again it was classy. The bits I remember mention "In divisions two and three/Oh Aston Villa Abide With Me". Anyone recall it?
I always had a soft spot for My eyes Have Seen the Glory and Villa Score.
-
I'm with that houllier gotta go
-
First time i've heard that.
A few years ago at Blackburn, some bloke started chanting a story and then everyone started yippy i ay. Can't for the life of me remember what he was saying.

Check out the 1975 League Cup final DVD to hear it song properly compared with the bastardised abomination it has become.

to the tune of ghostriders in the sky,
i was walking down by villa park one dark and dusky day
away, away, away
i spied this lonely city fan running fast away
away, away, away
i said to this city fan it is time for you to die
die, die, die you bastard die
you have met the wonder of holte enders in the sky
yippee i aye, yippee i oh
-
After today, I can't think of a better one than: 'We're shit, and we know we are'. Repeat until fall asleep, or until we score if you've got good lungs.
