We always play badly there.  They've got a much better team than us.  3-0 to them, with either Barry and or Milner rubbing it in with a goal.

Sorry Sandman.

I'd love for us to play there like Everton did the other day. Unfortunately I can't see us being as clinical as they were, nor our defence being good enough to hold out an onslaught. With too many kids playing we could get embarassed and them having more of their confidence drained. NRC and Petrov to be re-instated please.

Can see us defending deep and well, and occasionally looking impressive on the break. However, I'm afraid I can't see anything other than a comfortable win for the home side either...

There is just no possibility whatsoever that we will walk a way with anything less than a sound drubbing from this match.

The same goes for the Chelsea match - there, I've saved myself a post.

Leeg, when was the last time you got the score right at 2-0 to villa? (winky)
I have avoided doing predictions as I usually get them wrong and we lose but what have I got to lose now.
6-0 to Citeh, yep we really are that bad at the moment.

About two years ago. I'm sticking to this until we eventually do. Might be a long time, though.

Under normal circumstances we'd always get beat up there, no matter how good or (more likely) bad they are.

Two wins in twenty years or something like that.

However, this time will be different. Its the first time in a couple of decades that they're actually a better side than us and thus the jinx is broken.

2-0 Villa win.

Oh we are getting a caning in this one, make no mistake. We'll also get twatted by Chelsea, and probably come away with a hard earned point against Sunderland.

We seriously need to fill at least two spots in our back line. Namely Warnock, and an ever more annoying Collins.

We need some quality in CM.

We need a striker who can put the ball in the net and make things happen.

Failing all that, a miracle or two would do nicely.

The result will depend upon which Citeh team turns up.

The fact that they were utter cack in their last home game rather suggests that we'll get the full force of the rebound.

We'll lose and we'll lose heavily.  Can't believe that I'm parting with good money to witness it.

We can't keep a clean sheet and we can't score goals - that's a relegation scenario. He needs to pick an experienced side so Petrov and Reo-Coker must play.

My only other faint glimmer of hope is that snow is forecast in the Midlands and North over the next 24 hours.

Simply have to go with Reo Coker, Petrov and Delph in the middle. City only go with one up top so we need a centre half who can pass the ball. Hard to know which of Collins or Cuellar was worse at the weekend but I'd drop one of them for Clark. Have seen a few of City's games recently. They beat Bolton 1-0 but were at least three goals a better side. At Newcastle they weren't great but still comfortably won. They are weak enough at full back, Boateng in particular is awful. Kompany at centre half is superb though can't see Gabby troubling him in the slightest on current form. De Jong is probably the best holding midfielder in the world at present, silva is simply superb, Toure was terrible at Newcastle but his strength made him unplayable v Bolton. Even Barry has picked up a bit of form while Milner probably can't wait for a chance to get at Warnock.

Unfortunately I see a real hiding on the cards. There is something rotten in the team at the moment. Tactically a mess and self belief is on the floor.

Given our atrocious record at Citeh and our even more atrocious current form then I can only see a bit of a hiding for us sadly

3-0 to them Tevez, Silva and one of Milner or Barry to round off a great Christmas ;0)

Surely got to be a 5 man midfield.  We have some decent midfield talent available now and its time for Gerard to start making the most of this.  Assuming A Young ain't available I'd go for the following to nullify their creativity...

Downing Delph Petrov NRC Albrighton

With Heskey out, I'd run with Gabby up top, Downing and Marc out wide. NRC and Bannan in the middle, with Stan screening. I think that would help shield the back four better than going 4-4-2.

Concerns about Warnock, but not a lot we can do while Luke is injured.

Do well to keep it to 2-0 defeat .............what will be depressing is

I would drop Collins , who is a liability at the moment, and bring Dunne in.

Play a midfield of Petrov, NRC, and Bannan if all fit.Another game for Delph might be a bit too much. And play Albrighton , and AYoung/Downing wide, with preferably Gabby up front, who plays better on his own, or Heskey.

  Still not confidant though.

Why not? We're going to need someone with that extra nous and technical ability, and frankly that was sorely lacking against Spurs. I agree with Ads - Petrov and NRC working as a defensive duo with Bannan supporting the front three seems to me the most balanced midfield for all contingencies the game might throw up from the start.

Anything that involves Citeh winning by 3-0 or less is a huge result.  I'm currenty sitting here in High Wycombe with the family and after inflicting yesterdays performance on the whole male side of my family (dad, 2 x bruv nin laws and 4 nephews) they think I am absolutely barmy to be getting the train from Watford Junction up to Manchester tomorrow to witness what its looking like will be a total humiliation. We must be the side that most would perceive to be a soft touch on present form. The premiership can be divided into sides of real quality and guile  and the shite and onions scrappers, sadly Villa don't fit either description at the moment. Realistically a draw would be a great result

I think we're going to get walloped here, can see Tevez getting two at least so 4-1 City on a ground we never do well on even when we were finishing 6th.

Only positive is Heskey's out so we'll go 4-5-1, I would bring in NRC and see if Stan can last an hour.
Title: Re: Manchester City v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread

NRC not playing can only to me he's been saved for this and the Chelsea game so I'd have him and see if Stan can last an hour.

I think Heskey's injury means we'll be certain to play 4-5-1 in this one.

In fairness even though I think we'll be soundly beaten Man. City haven't torn anyone apart at Eastlands this season with how they play.

I fear though as usual we'll cock up in defence at key moments and their individual quality will be too much.

Another beating on the cards.

4-0

Milner 1
Barry 3

A perfect hat-trick from Barry, where he then runs the length of the pitch like Adebayor, slides on his knees and kisses the city badge.

Man City are coming into reasonable form and like others have said, we never do well up there. That said, we could do a Liverpool from last season when we went up there having lost 0-2 to bloody Wigan at home.
Then we beat the dippers 3-1.
Lets hope, a draw would be good but I fear we will get walloped 4-0 or worse. We need a goalscorer, Fonz tries hard but is on a par with Luke Moore for me, he does not have enough presence or muscle.Bendtner,Keane or even Owen for me.

I'd go..

Friedel
Lichaj, Cuellar, Clark, Warnock
Albrighton, Delph, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Downing
Agbonlahor

That's the team I'd go with and a 2-1 win.

A lot of negativity on this thread, reminds me of my first 32 years of supporting City!! I do think we will win but it won't be a thrashing that many are predicting. Mancini just doesn't do thrashings at Eastlands, he loves possesion football mainly played by the defenders and Nigel DeJong, bores the opposition and then hit them on the counter-attack. We have played far better football away from home this season as the home side has to come at us, but at home when the opposition don't attack as often we just seem to play keep ball until Tevez gets pissed off and starts looking deep for the ball, spurs the rest on and we get a couple.
Probable line up

                           Hart
Zabaletta- Kompany-Lescott/Toure-Kolorov
                     DeJong
             YaYa Toure     Barry
Silva                                     Balotelli
                     Tevez

subs- Given, Richards, Vieira, Boateng, A Johnson, Milner, Jo

I predict a 2-0 victory with Tevez and Milner to score his first for us near the end

For those of you coming, have a safe trip and try and enjoy it as much as you can. Btw, it's pissing down here (no surprise) so bring a coat!!

We will get stuffed in this one. Tevez looks like he has decided to start playing again - doesn't bode well.

5-1 Citeh - Tevez 3, Barry 2 - consolation (greeted with much hilarity) by Cuellar from a corner in 88th minute.

Pack the midfield and grab the ankles.

Quote
A perfect hat-trick from Barry, where he then runs the length of the pitch like Adebayor, slides on his knees and kisses the city badge.

What, as supporters, do we do in the few minutes it will take him to run the length of the pitch??

I reckon a miracle may happen today - 1-1 draw!

I'll kill my mum if we can score at least a goal.

I'll kill my wife if we can earn a point.

But thinking of it, since we're crap now and will probably suffer another tonking, I better kill myself first.

Them 4 - 1 Us

I think we have a chance here, if our defence doesnt make any mistakes.

Spurs are the most attacking team in the league, so don't be too down beat after that result.

With Petrov and NRC back we should be more solid in midfield.

I'm going 1-1 Gabby Tevez.

You know that your going to get a thumping when the only optimism you have about a Villa game is that the opposition striker is captain of your fantasy team.
Therefore 0-3, Gabby x2, Warnock

Not sure I entirely subscribe to the pessimism.

                    Freidal
  Lichaj   Clark   Cuellar   Warnock
Albrighton  NRC   Petrov   Downing
                     Delph
                 Agbonlahor

has a pretty solid look to me. Also, one thing the Villa always do is surprise us. When we expect to win easily we usually screw things up and when nobody expects anything, we then pull something out of the bag. Not very scientific, but for an argument based on something more tangible read on...

I think if we can put out the above team reasonably regularly and  integrate the likes of Young and Delfouneso, that side can be a reasonably solid outfit. For me our defensive problems have stemmed from midfield and with NRC and Petrov (this is key) back to stem the flow, I predict a different Villa from here on in. We might not pull up any trees, but I think that side can easily steer us to mid-table mediocrity at worst (if things come together maybe even a push for a UEFA  spot). There's plenty of good young players to integrate there too; Bannan, Delfouneso, Albrighton and Delph represent some of the best young talent in the British Isles. Supplement them with more good young players, sprinkle in a bit of experience, give them a stable environment and there's a huge amount of potential there.

I think we have a reasonable chance of a point...

I'll go along with that. Hopefully Carlos will once again have Tevez in his pocket, Gabby is due a goal and now we have a bit more muscle in the middle of the pitch, the defence will finally get some protection.

My only doubt is we continue to play with two wingers with only Gabby in the middle. We need to start getting players in the opposition's box to support him.
