Checkouts - what is the best dart to throw first for a 123 checkout?
It must be T19 as that still leaves a finish if you only get the single 19. Missing a T20 with a single 20 leaves no out shot.

Try this....
Bobby George's check-out calculator (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/spl/hi/other_sports/03/world_darts/html/calculator.stm)
He suggests Treble 19, 16, Bull.

Tony Eccles was brilliant the other night. How anyone could score so many maximums, including a 170 checkout, and lose is unbelievable.
-
I fluked a 126 once - 19 T19 Bull
I've never hit a 180 though, hit 140, 135, 123 countless times and even a 160 once (Got a bit excited with my last dart!)
-
Best finish 161 hit 180 only twice

I usually go 51 (treble 17), 30 (treble 10) 40 (tops). Main reasoning for that is ig you miss the treble 10 and hit a single it's a single 20 to leave you tops.
-
I always try to leave double 16's as a checkout.

I wouldn't finish with a bull unless you are a seriously good level. From there is personal preference. i always like finishing on trhe right side of the board rather than the left -- unless its a double 14/12, something high. So, treble 17, treble 16, double 12. If I miss the treble then I 9should) have 106 left, from there you still have options to try and leave your favourite finish. Miss the treble 16 then with 56 left there are still a wealth of options. 16, tops maybe.

I just aim in the general direction of the board, hitting occasionally.

Double 13 to start. You only have to throw it straight. You get a bit of room up or down to allow for errors.
