Just seen on news m6 closed for several hours with heavy snow near the Wigan area , snow ploughs clearing the carriageway but some drivers stuck for hours apparently- I would imagine there must be some doubts as to our game being on if the snow has been as bad as reported up there!
Parts of Lancashire reported to have had over 10 inches of snow during the night.
Sky just said villa game is a huge doubt due to snow around the ground- inspection shortly!Almost certainly going to be off!
-
on SSN major doubt
-
Is there an inspection planned?
-
The least thing we want is this game off.
We are on the back of a win and i feel really confident we will win.
-
Wigan Athletic have just passed a message to 5 Live to the effect that the game is in 'severe doubt' and Villa fans are advised to wait before travelling.
-
Yes but seems to be a formality- several inches of snow around Wigan and seems like it's going to be off! Wigan saying major doubt until inspection confirms things.
-
I think it will be off judging by this on the Wigan official site
GAME IN SEVERE DOUBT

Today's game is in serious doubt after heavy snow overnight
Despite the best efforts of the club to keep today's game on by bringing in snow ploughs and gritters, today's game against Aston Villa is now in serious doubt after 10 inches of overnight snowfall.
Public transport isn't running, there are motorway closures and the general condition of the surrounding routes is treacherous.
-
I was thinking yesterday that this would be called off, they can't seem to cope with bad weather at all. At least it gives us a bit of a break and some more of our injured players may be back for when it's rescheduled.
-
They should have just played it at villa.. changed the fixture round...
-
Pity though as Wigan would have had 7 players missing today -still we should have sone new signings for the next time we play them.
-
Come on you Wigan bastards - update please, I need to know if I'm travelling or not. Would prefer it to be off at this stage as trains through Preston being delayed by up to 60 minutes.
-
Shame i was looking forward to today's game.
-
Me too... fancied a win today
-
Can't they just make a fucking announcement one way or another or do they intend to wait till I've brought a train ticket before announcing?
-
It was set up for a big villa win today.
-
Will I be able to get my money back for the tickets if it snows as I can't get to a re-arranged midweek game? Anyone get their money back last year?
-

The Wigan announcement said that all public transport was shut down.

I got my money back last year no problems. If it is called off and rearranged for a day you cant go to, you'll be fine.
-
The game is definately off. Just announced on Sky Sports News

There are at least two FA Cup weekend-slots that it could drop into should we both be out of the competition by then...
-
I take it that means all public transport in Wigan, not national rail to Wigan. No disruption to the trains according to the National Rail website, just between Wigan and Ormsby or somewhere like that.
-
pleased with that. gives us more time to get NRC, Young, everyone else fit.
-
Is it really off cos it's not 'breaking news' on SSN? Are you sure they didn't say 'it's on'?

-
Cheers. Sorry for doubting you Bobcat! Now, does anyone know if I will be able to get my money back?
-
Ssn have just announced it's off!! 100% guys
-
Ignore my query above. Someone has already answered my question.
-
Is it off then ?

ASTON VILLA GAME POSTPONED
Posted on: Sat 18 Dec 2010
Freak snow forces club to postpone today's game against Aston Villa
Today's Barclays Premier League game between Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa at the DW Stadium has been called off after freak weather conditions in the town overnight.
The decision was made on the advice of Superintendent Stuart Ellison of Greater Manchester Police, on Safety Grounds.
Despite the club's best efforts using today's game on by bringing in snow ploughs and gritters, the ten inches of snow that fell overnight, and is still falling at the time of going to press, has made the surrounding area extremely hazardous for supporters travelling to the game.
Public transport isn't running, there are motorway closures and the general condition of the surrounding routes is treacherous.
The DW Stadium playing surface, ironically, is fine, with the undersoil heating doing its job.
The club wants to apologise for the inconvenience this causes. News of the postponement has been circulated as early as possible to all official news channels and news contacts.
Club staff have also been unable to reach the stadium in order to send out text message alerts to Latics supporters.

A chance to get our injured/sick players back but i did fancy our chances today but i usually do.
-
Let's make the best of it. Everybody grab a spade and take all the snow to Perth. It's England's only hope of avoiding defeat!
-
Not surprised having listened to local radio this morning. I wasn't fancying the trip and it is only 20 miles or so.
-
This is good news for me.
I was meant to be in Manchester from Thursday until Saturday for some ski practice and then the Wigan game.
A combination of the anticipated snow chaos, work and a cough lead to me not travelling up.
-
Snow chaos leading to the cancellation of ski practise?
-
Talk about piste off.
-
At least now our injured player's should be back along with new signing's for the rearranged game.
-
I'm pleased my train out of Aberystwyth was delayed or I'd currently be on a train without a game to go to.. Already have my money back on my train ticket so nothing is lost.
-
I keep thinking that but it's more likely another three will have got injured by the time the game comes around.
-
Looking out the window it would have been off it was at home, as well.
-

By the time it's rescheduled we'll have got rid of Carew, Sidwell and Ireland, Petrov and Delph will be fit, Young won't have gone to Liverpool or Spurs because they can't afford his wages and we'll have signed a left back, a goalkeeper, a central midfielder and a striker who knows where the goal is.

I think Wigan were in a worse position re injuries and suspensions.

I hope so but the way this season's going we will have to play the under-12s due to a freak outburst of Bubonic Plague at Bodymoor Heath.
-
My attempts to go to Wigan games appear to be jinxed.
-

Small Heath hasn't been called off yet. Liverpool - Fulham has.

Which at least means Newcastle supporters will have maximum inconvenience. I know I shouldn't hope bad things happen to other fans, but there's an exception to every rule.
-
Newcastle will love this. T-shirt weather.
-
Just a thought. This is being discussed on a sticky as well. How about merging the 2 threads?...
-
Sorry, no, the sticky's been locked. Carry on...:-)
-
Thats a real shame about the game. With the fixtures coming up, I think we may be quite close to the relegation zone for a while yet.
-
we get some players back fit, and the opposition is missing lots of players, and the game gets called off...
when i wanted a game called off due to our injury situation, we just had to make do with the conditions...
typical...
-
Blues now off.
-
Snow chaos leading to the cancellation of ski practise?
[Alanis]Isn't it ironic[/Alanis]
-
Seeing the snow coming down in south Birmingham, looking at the sky , it would be dangerous for anyone to travel long distance.
They have to get home again. No wonder the Blues is off.
-
Sorry, no, the sticky's been locked. Carry on...:-)
The sticky is/was the re-named pre-match thread which is shortly going to be moved.
-
Could we do with football freezing up and having all our games postponed till the transfer window opens ?
-
I don't mind Man City and Chelsea away being postponed and never replayed. We'll just call them a draw, fair?

Sounds fair enough to me.

So when do you think the Spurs game will be called off then? Be nice to get it called off early so you can make other arrangements for the day, or Villa to announce they are going to clear all the surrounding areas and the game will be on.
