Title: Houlier - Daily Mail
Post by: charlie659 on November 20, 2010, 08:05:02 AM
Great article in today's Daily Mail, very interesting words from Jamie Carragher and a small insight into the Stephen Ireland situation.

I've just read the article and it's very interesting.
I do like the sound of what he's doing at Villa and slowly I'm sure he will build us a long term future.

.. so long as his health lasts.

Thanks for putting this article up for us to read. I think it gives us a useful insight into the mind of our new manager. He comes across as an intelligent principled professional who may just turn out to be the Holy Grail for which we've been looking. Time will tell, so let's not rush to judge him.

Regarding Steve Ireland, yes, I was not happy. But I wanted him to react. He has some talent but he is not totally with us at the moment. He needs to contribute more.

'He is not ready to sacrifice for the team. And it is all about the team.

That's the kind of attitude you want from the manager

Let's see if Ireland can show the same attitude

I like the article I like his approach, he is the boss and everyone is in it for the team, I wasn't that impressed when we got him but he has changed the way we play for the better and gives youth its chance, he sees when players get tired and takes them off and has a plan B. We just need to turn good performances into good results.

I am really happy with Hoillier and everything he is doing.

I'm so glad we have trusted the club with the whole manager situation, because we now have a manager who isn't doin things for himself and his own legacy.

We have Gerrard who is all for Villa and improving everything Villa.

May help if he started a few games so he has the chance to impress rather than the manager sends him on with 10mins to go, anyway he will be sold in Jan

There's nothing like a health scare to make you wake up to the need to take care of yourself.

Reading between the lines, he needs to buck his ideas up in training to begin with and be part of 'the team'

I think what he's said is spot on, not in it for the team then f*ck off. He's picking the kids, highly susceptible to influence and keen to impress, brought in a great footballing brain in Pires for them to learn off of. It wont be over night, but imagine how the Villa team featuring Clark, Bannnan, Albrighton, Delph and Fonz will be playing in 3 years time...

Best bit of the whole piece for me!

This bit interested me.

‘At first, when Villa came to me, I did say no. But my wife wanted me to be happy, and once I had spoken to the chairman and the chief executive I fell in love with the club. And the training ground is already here.’

I didn't realise he said no! Hats off to Randy and the CE for selling the club and allowing him to fall in love with us. I have a good feeling about the current board, manager and young players.

Take note Ash!!!

And don't forget the likes of Ash, Gabby, Collins and Downing are also young enough to very much involved in that side in 3 years.

Great article and as fans have said Pires will hopefully inspire this young crop of players. Lets hope they dont follow Ireland, looks like he will be on his way probably to Fulham.

The article  just confirms my opinion about Paul Ince.

As for the rest of it, I think it's great.  GH's philosophy is just what the Villa need.

Exactly what I thought. His ex-managers really hold him in high esteem, don't they?

we have a feel good factor happening here, and that includes me.Like many I wasn't too thrilled with GH's appointment but he has turned me round.
I love the fact he is giving the kids a chance, the Man U game made us all feel proud of the team again.
He definately has a plan B unlike MON and I love the look of the backroom staff and the Pires signing is intelligent and inspirational.
Only problem is, once these yougsters get going, Man City, Manure,Chelsea will be in for them like a shot.Price of success I suppose. The main thing for me is that we are playing attacking exciting football again. The defence looks pretty solid, the midfield is alive with possibilities, we just need a proven goalscorer. This could be Villas second  1975-1983 period. COME ON !!!!

Maybe not. There are a few of the same generation this time, theyve spent a long time playing together, going forward,  winning games and their youth team history may help us old onto them for a bit longer. There is likely to be more camaraderie if they are all first teamers together.

Good read.  I do like what i see, but it's a shame it looks like Ireland is already out of the door.  I know it sounds like he isn't part of 'the team' in terms of his willingness to throw himself in for the cause, but neither are a lot of the players who play in his position (VDV, Modric, Iniesta, Sneijder).  They are essentially luxury players who contribute little except for that killer pass, you won't get a tremendous workrate from them, but generally all the better teams have one.

Why is it that one of the worst newspapers often has the best football interviews? Very interesting stuff.

Nothing to suggest he will other than their admiration for him, but after signing Pires I hope we don't go overboard in bringing in older heads at the end of their careers i.e Carragher and Owen when Liverpool and ManUre have no need for them anymore.

If Ireland leaves in Jan, the only person he will have to blame will be himself.

I thought Ireland is not allowed to join a new club until summer with these new rules on transfer. I don't think any player is allowed to move to 2nd club after moving in 12 months.

Anyone see the Mirror column piece about Pires signing? Suffice to say it starts with the bizarre comparison of St Etienne buying Kevin Phillips and goes downhill from there.

"At Liverpool I made a contribution. I built the training ground. I built a team.
"The training ground took a lot out of me. So much work on top of the football. It probably affected my health."

... Hope Randy doesn't read this and get him working on the new North Stand.
