Smells like a draw to me. Worried the sane midfield as last weekend would be over powered by blackburn's physical game. Clark could come in, but he may be needed at centre back if dunne's injured. I'm guessing gabby's going to be ok. Bannan and albrighton might be a bit tired?

Another gutting draw like Man Utd & Fulham.

This will go one of two ways. We will either build on last week's performance and win it comfortably, or we will get out muscled and lose two nil.

2-0 (Downing, Gabby)

There are 3 days to go so I'm expecting at least 3 more injuries.

Three of the Academy U12s to be promoted and all to score in 5-0 win with old stager Albrighton being hailed as great influence on the nippers.

Like Craven Cottage, I always think no matter what form we're in, we can always win at Ewood Park, just not an intimidating an away ground.

I actually think this could be like the Fulham game, we'll take the lead, not kill the game off and they'll score through a late set piece.

1-1.

If he's fit, and gets a run I think Gabby is due multiple goals in a prem game for only the 2nd time in his career; a hat trick at that.  Emerton will probably peg one back.

Blackburn should be in the Championship at best and Allardyce should be in prison for all those dodgey transfer dealings with all the mercenaries he has signed over the years...

Yeah thats true, though Utd's main aim is to pass the ball, were as Rovers will try and stop us first, then try and pass. But the younger members of the team should be full of confidence after last week. An early goal could make all the difference.

I certainly think he'll play in Young's position off the striker when he does and will allow us to rest one of Young, Downing and Albrighton at times.  However I imagine it will be Albrighton more often than not to begin with as he's not as experience as Ash and Downing at preserving his intensity and energy for the full 90.  Don't know what it says about Ireland though, I suppose he's Barry's back up until NRC/Petrov/Delph return/ Jan comes around and then I dont know what.

They aren't much of a side but Allardyce makes them hard to beat. At the moment I can always see us scoring but conceding as well. If we can improve our ball retention from the last couple of games I can see us doing them 2-1 or 3-1.

Injury worries for the centre of defence appear to be un-founded -

Rovers players will be physically stronger especially in midfield but
provided to get the ball down and play it on the grass I can see
a long overdue away win Gabby to grab the winner in a 3-2

Title: Re: Blackburn Rovers v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Dribbler on November 19, 2010, 04:25:10 PM
I see that their takeover has just been completed, so with their new owners probably there for their first home game it's going to be a tough one, as their team will have something to prove.

We've had some great games against them in the last couple of seasons and most of them have been quite open, expansive and good to watch, if not a little nail bitting. I think we're missing that bit of toughness we need in midfield, so our passing will have to be up to scratch, and i'm still worried at our tendency to conceed goals from aerial situations, especially late on. The defence need to sort that out if we are going to pick up a few more points than we have been.

3 - 2 to the Villa, Pires to score the winner with a curling shot from the edge of the box.

I don't think Blackburn are a terribly good team but they are capable of lobbing a spanner in the works when we're trying to get a positive run going. I can't see us losing but now they've had this little confidence boost of the takeover I expect this to be more difficult than it ought to be.

I don't see the takeover meaning anything at all to be honest. For whatever reason, we do well against this lot, and despite the late collapse last weekend, we will have taken a lot of positives from that display. This team is only going to get better, and with the addition of Pires providing some creativity from the bench I can see us edging this one 2-0. Goals from Gabby and Ash.

The referee will be Michael Oliver (Northumberland), who has stolen Stuart Attwell's crown as the youngest Premier League referee.

It his his first Villa game this season, and he is also yet to referee Blackburn. It won't be the first Sky has seen of him, following WBA v Blackpool and Reading v Norwich last week - 3 reds have been shown in those two games, with 2 being rescinded afterwards.

The assistants are McDonough (yellow flag) and Halliday (chequered) with Chris Foy as 4th man.

I suspect it will be the same old scenario. At KO we will find out that yet another first teamer is injured. Pires will play but out of position and clearly unfit, we will score early on (involving youngsters) and they will equalise in the last 5 mins.

Might as well get used to it until at least January.

If we attack as we did in the second half against Man United then I think we'll get a positive result. I think with Gabby leading the line and our widemen in the form they are, that we've got more pace and width than most can handle.

I can understand the concerns some might have about Blackeyeburns physical approach, but hopefully we'll be able to spend more time on the ball than not.

Think much will depend if Collins plays. I think we may not be able to handle the physicality without him. Would def prefer Clark to Hogg in midfield

we need to start converting good performances into wins. Hard to believe we only got two points from Fulham and United. I think Dunne and Collins are tailormade for the likes of Jason Roberts. Clark would also bring some much needed height into defending their multiple set plays.

We've put together a run of decent performances without getting the results we should have.

We are be due a below-par performance but -if there is any justice- a late winner or equalizer in our favour.

Have a feeling it will be 2-0 to Big Sam's lot however.

Tight, but we'll win 2-1.  Gabby and Albrighton.

First of a nice run of "home" games for me, i.e. closer than Villa Park.

Due to stupid kick off times and my son`s committment to junior football we are missing our favourite away day  - So frustrating he is playing down the road at Ormskirk today.

I am going for a 2-1 win with Ashley scoring one of them.

As to VCTM - a 3-0 victory over the plastic scousers (he plays for Birkdale, who Jack Rodwell emerged from)

Blackburn have only lost 6 home league games under Sam. A draw would be a good result, but we could win if we get at their fullbacks and take our chances, and be really robust in defending direct balls into their forwards. I'm a bit concerned that with them playing Dunn and pedersen centrally, our youngsters could struggle to keep track of those runs.

Just arrived in Blackburn. Meeting some people for a prawn sandwich before the match. Can't see any other result than a win for us. More on match thread later.

I feel fairly confident about this one today assuming our defence is composed in the last few minutes . 2-1 Villa.

If by some chance we don't win, could the more hysterical members of the Miserabilist Tendency please stay away from the post-match thread? Thank you.

I'd include draw in that too :)

Time for Ireland to step up.  If he's going to have any future under Houllier he needs to take these chances.

Ireland is very fortunate to be selected in my opinion. Last weeks bout of flu has been called into question by certain sections of the media as well.

I hope we don't end up playing with 10 men.

If he couldn't get in the team when we have four midfielders and two forwards out injured then he might as well pack his bags.  This is his chance, it's not ideal opposition for him in many ways but he has to go out their with a point to prove and his Superman pants on.

I was rather hoping he hadn't unpacked them. Lets hope he proves me wrong.
